How would you pronounce Marnye?

I’m reading a book with a character named [name_f]Marnye[/name_f] and can’t figure out how to pronounce it. Would you pronounce it [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] or Marn-yay?

Either [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] or mar-nye (like [name_m]Bill[/name_m] [name_m]Nye[/name_m]).

My first thought was [name_f]MAR[/name_f]-nyuh.

Id say [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-nee

When I saw it in the title I read it like [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], so I guess that’s how I’d pronounce it.

I would say [name_f]Mar[/name_f]-knee

I’m sure it’s mean to [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] but I wanna say Marn-yay when i see it.

I would say it the same as [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. I’ve seen [name_f]Bettye[/name_f] and Nancye before and they’re pronounced the same as [name_f]Betty[/name_f] and [name_f]Nancy[/name_f].

My first was “marn-yeh,” but the [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] pronunciation makes sense. I know a [name_f]Bobbye[/name_f], pronounced [name_u]Bobby[/name_u].

Ditto I’m sure it’s [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] (maybe mar-nye) but in my head I read it as marn-yuh or marn-yay

It looks like mar-[name_m]NYE[/name_m] (nye as in bill) to me but if I were reading out loud off of a roll call list etc I would say it as “…[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]?”

I said MARN-yay (am I inadvertantly channelling the pronunciation of ‘[name_m]Kanye[/name_m]’?), but I can also see why it would be [name_f]Marnie[/name_f]. What is the background of the novel? If it’s fantasy or sci-fi or any other book that takes place in a world different to ours, I would guess it’s probably an attempt at a creative spelling of [name_f]Marnie[/name_f], as these books tend to switch the letters to make the names a little less familiar.
