When I read it I said it like [name_m]Mike[/name_m]-a.

[name_u]Mika[/name_u] is Mee-kah and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is My-cah.

My thoughts exactly.

Thanks Rixie for your input. Were you the “other” vote then?

my thoughts

[name_u]Mika[/name_u] and [name_u]Mica[/name_u] are Mee-kah to me while [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is My-kah.

another mee-ka!

I say MEE-kah, too. If it was [name_f]Myka[/name_f], then I’d definitely say it like [name_u]Micah[/name_u], but [name_u]Mika[/name_u] just seems to be MEE-kah to me.

I thought [name_m]Mike[/name_m]-ah but I’d really have to ask the person before trying to pronounce it. I’m sure she’ll get that reaction.

I like the Dutch spelling Maaike but I assume that would confuse people even more. It’s pronounced My-kuh. I prefer the sound of that to Meek-a because ‘meek’ isn’t the most favourable attribute.

That being said, I lived in Japan for awhile and met many [name_u]Mika[/name_u] (Mee-kas) but because it’s a Japanese name the ‘meek’ association doesn’t carry over.

[name_u]Mika[/name_u] is a Japanese name that is pronounced “mee-kah”. The Biblical male name of [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is pronounced “my-kah”.

Thanks everyone for your responses. It does have a Japanese origin, but is also used in Hungarian (which is what my hubby is). When I first saw it, I thought My-kah, like [name_m]Mike[/name_m] only with an a on the end. I wasn’t in love with that. But, when I looked it up, I like it as Mee-kah. I think that is interesting. I know I would hate it though if I was constantly having to correct people so I wouldn’t want to do that to my baby (in the future). [name_m]Hence[/name_m], the poll.

I second @ikfly: [name_u]Mika[/name_u] is mee-kah and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] is my-kah.
