How would you pronounce these names?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] so I love these two names but I need some clarification on how they would be pronounced

Firstly the name elio it’s an Italian name (not sure if that would change the pronunciation)
So is it pronounced like e -lie -oh (e is in kettle)
Or is it Eh- lee -oh

Next the name [name_m]Odin[/name_m]
Is it oh - dean
Or oh -din (how it’s phonetically)

I’d say:

[name_m]Elio[/name_m]= something like A-lee-oh

[name_m]Odin[/name_m]= oh-din

I say EH-lee-oh, and OH-din.

ee-lee-oh
oh-din

e-lee-oh (as it’s in the film call me by your name)
oh-din (i feel like that’s the english pronunciation; germans would say oh-dean)

Eh-lee-oh
Oh-din

Eh [name_u]Lee[/name_u] Oh
And [name_m]Odin[/name_m] depends on where you are BUT I feel like mostly Oh Din

I would say ee-lee-oh and O-din.

Eh-lee-oh

Oh-din

Ee-lee-oh

Oh-din

I pronounce them EE-lee-oh and OH-din

Ee-lee-oh

Oh-din

EH-lee-oh as in the film Call Me By Your Name, not ee-lee-oh or eh-lie-oh. I love this name! And I pronounce [name_m]Odin[/name_m] OH-din.

I’m American.

[name_m]Elio[/name_m]: I would typically say EH-lee-oh, but I recently met a young [name_m]Elio[/name_m] and his family says it more like EY-lee-oh (“ey” as in “hey, you” - not quite “ay” as in “play”). Dad is Hispanic and I believe that is a more phonetic pronunciation in Spanish, so that may explain the slight difference.

[name_m]Odin[/name_m]: Is OH-din for me.

[name_m]Elio[/name_m] (E-[name_m]Leo[/name_m])
[name_m]Odin[/name_m] (Oh-[name_m]Den[/name_m])

I don’t speak Italian so I don’t know the correct pronunciation, but just reading the name, my impression is EE-lee-oh.

[name_m]Odin[/name_m] I’ve heard as OH-din.

I love [name_m]Elio[/name_m] alot especially pronounced eh-lie-oh.
[name_m]Odin[/name_m] is a bit overused but would pronounce it oh-den.

I would pronounce [name_m]Elio[/name_m] as EH-lee-oh (though maybe in some languages/accents it’s pronounced closer to EHL-yoh, with two syllables). EE-lee-oh would not occur to me.

[name_m]Odin[/name_m], I have only heard pronounced OH-din.

[name_f]EL[/name_f]-ee-oh
OH-din

Eh-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-Oh – depending on the accent/language it might be different, but pronunciations like Eh-lie-oh would not occur to me, in spite of the popularity of [name_u]Elias[/name_u]/[name_m]Eli[/name_m]/[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (I actually really dislike thinking of it pronounced like Eh-lie-oh, it sounds like someone just thought it was [name_m]Eli[/name_m] but with an O). It has a different origin from those names since it comes from the Greek God [name_m]Helios[/name_m] (pronounced like He-[name_u]Lee[/name_u]-os). I actually really like this name, and people might be a bit more familiar with the pronunciation after the movie. Additionally, Behind the Name says it’s pronounced like Eh-lyo, with a more pronounced y sound like in yeti.

Oh-Din – I have never met a person with this name, nor have I seen it in any movies/shows/books, but this is the pronunciation that comes immediately to mind.
