How Would You Pronounce this Name?

Hey Berries!

Yesterday, my NOTD was [name_f]Malaya[/name_f], but I’m not sure on the exact pronunciation.

When I was younger I said “mah-lay-ah” and now I say “mah-lie-ah”.

How would you pronounce the name [name_f]Malaya[/name_f]?

[name_f]My[/name_f] instinct is mah-lie-ah (like Maya), but mah-lay-ah wouldn’t surprise me either, especially with the similarity to [name_f]Malaysia[/name_f].

I would also default to the second option, with the emphasis on the middle syllable.

Mah-lie-uh would be my guess, but wouldn’t be surprised by mah-lay-uh either

It visually is reminiscent of malaria to me so pronunciation I default to the first option.

I would not be surprised at all by either pronunciation. I like Mah-lie-ah better though.

Muh-LIE-uh

In Russian there is such a word, with stress on the first syllable, it means small and refers mainly to geographical names (for example, the name Malaya Asia (Anatolia) implies that there is a large Asia). And with the stress on the second syllable it is a slang term for a child/younger sister/girlfriend, etc., often used in rap
