How would you spell Ellen-uh?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone!

I really love the pronunciation Ellen-uh, but don’t know how I should spell it.

  • I love the [name_f]British[/name_f] pronunciation of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] as Ellen-uh, but it’s generally pronounced with a -nor sound where I am.
  • [name_f]Elena[/name_f] could work, but that’s very pronunciation ambiguous and I don’t like it as much.
  • I like [name_f]Helena[/name_f], but as Hel-een-uh, (honour name), but I’d also like it as Helen-uh.
  • And based on my pronunciation, the most logical option is [name_f]Ellena[/name_f], but apparently that’s not an established name.

How would you guys spell the pronunciation of Ellen-uh?

Thank you so much!

[name_f]Ellena[/name_f] would be my instinct.

See I would say [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]

However I know in the states there’s a strong emphasis on the ‘nor’ part off the name so to avoid that I would go [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] which I feel looks established avoiding any difficulty with pronunciation issues.

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] would really be the only way I’d spell that. I’m in [name_u]America[/name_u], so [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] would not be pronounced with a [name_f]British[/name_f] accent. The H in [name_f]Helena[/name_f] would also be pronounced, and [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] looks more like “e-leen-uh” to me.

Based on how you’d like it pronounced, I think [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] is your best choice.

[name_f]Helena[/name_f], no h sound

I would spell is [name_f]Elena[/name_f], but i also might pronounce it eh-LEEN-uh. So, i think [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] would be the most straight forward option.

[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] in Aus/UK etc, [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] in US.

In my country it would be [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. [name_f]Elena[/name_f] is pronounced mainstreamly like this where I live (Italy).

In an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking country I would go by [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] or [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. (Not sure though, take this with a grain of salt.)

I’ve known an [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] with that pronunciation - and it was a name used in [name_f]Ann[/name_f] Radcliffe’s The Italian!

I’d go with [name_f]Ellena[/name_f]

in Australia it’s pronounced with the -nor sound usually!

I pronounce [name_f]Elena[/name_f] like Ellen-uh

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] is the only one that makes sense to me! You might have to correct the pronunciation sometimes, but it’s not the end of the world. [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] looks messy to me, [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] I’d avoid unless you’re in [name_u]England[/name_u], and I’ve never heard of [name_f]Helena[/name_f] being pronounced without the H sound.

I’ve known an [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] too, pronounced ellen-uh. It’s not as common as the others but I think it’s more established than you’d think.

Based on all the information, I’d go with [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] for you.

I agree with [name_f]Ellena[/name_f].

[name_f]Elena[/name_f] = el-AY-nuh in my mind

I prononce every letter in [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], so I would want to spell Ellen-uh as [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] (or even just Ellen), but I would assume it’s actually [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

[name_f]Elena[/name_f].

I personally don’t like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] pronounced ell-eh-na as I particularly love the -nor sound.

I have thought this through myself! I think you’d have to go [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] to be sure: [name_f]Elena[/name_f] to me could get [name_f]Elayna[/name_f] or else Eh-lenna whereas we want Ellen-uh!

The “Ellen-uh” I know spells it [name_f]Elena[/name_f] so that’s my default spelling!

[name_f]Ellena[/name_f] or Ellenna spellings are nice. In [name_u]England[/name_u] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] is pronounced as [name_f]Helen[/name_f] with an a on the end. You could go with that but I think [name_f]Ellena[/name_f] or Ellenna would work better.
