I like [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] better. It looks complete, and will be a little more familiar, which I think is a good thing - especially since it’s really not so common.
I prefer [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m].
Tough choice!
I went with [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] because I’ve seen it as a name in real life. I do agree that the extra “e” does make it look much longer
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] looks best to me, but [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] might be more appropriate for you and I think it looks good with [name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] got my vote.
I do understand that the nature association is what you’re going for and it makes sense to use that immediate spelling, but [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] just seems to look like there’s something missing and it’s not quite done. Also, as [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] originated as a surname referring to a person who lived near a bush of hawthorn, it still has it’s nature meaning that way.
While [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] is long, yes, it’s no longer than the far more common [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] or [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] so I think the length’s just fine.
Finally, [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] & [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] make for a brilliant sibling duo. I love it.
Thanks so much for your feedback…sincerely appreciate it!
I just saw this thread and thought I should weigh in! My son’s middle name is [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m], and like you, we debated whether or not to include the -e. We ultimately decided against it because [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] only made me think of the author vs. [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] making me think of the plant (and a couple other, irrelevant to this thread, connections). For the same reason, I voted for [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] for you. Next to [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] retains more of the natural connection it’s clear you’re after. Best of luck!
It always looks incomplete to me without the -e, so I say [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m].
I think [name_u]Cedar[/name_u] & [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] look so handsome together. I love the name [name_m]Hawthorn/name_m, my preferred spelling is [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] but honestly, the name is just stunning!
[name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] looks more complete and like a name to me. It still very much feels like the tree
I’d spell it [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] because I like [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] and literary names are important to me.
In your case though, I’d go with [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m] since you’re looking for a tree name specifically. And it goes great with [name_u]Cedar[/name_u]!
