How would you spell her name?

[name_u]Ever[/name_u] since I was a teenager, I have loved the name [name_f]Lilly[/name_f]. I always thought I would spell it with two L’s, but now I’m torn. When I read it, it looks too long; when I write [name_f]Lily[/name_f], it looks too short. I also love the longer version [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] but have the same uncertainty about its spelling. And then, throw in the fact that it’s extremely popular (especially with middle names I love, like [name_f]Joy[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], or [name_f]May[/name_f]), and I don’t know if it’s worth it.

If you named your daughter this name, how would you spell it? Would you keep it short or use a lengthier version?

Thank you!

I would use [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or maybe just [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. From your options, I like [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] the best, and I think the middle names you listed would be lovely next to either of them.

If I was using a y on the end, I would spell it [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but I prefer it spelled [name_f]Lillie[/name_f].

[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] “[name_f]Lillie[/name_f]” [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is breathtaking.

[name_f]Lillia[/name_f] [name_f]Josephina[/name_f]…I like the Scandinavian [name_f]Lilja[/name_f]/[name_f]Lillia[/name_f] the best, and [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilja[/name_f] [name_f]Josephina[/name_f] are sweet, imo.

I’d spell it [name_f]Lily[/name_f] over [name_f]Lilly[/name_f]. I prefer the simplicity personally.

I prefer just [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and with that spelling, just like the lily flower  I think [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is very beautiful to and with nickname [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but it’s just not my style

I prefer [name_f]Lily[/name_f] to [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] as well. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is the much more common spelling (at least in the US), and I always prefer names that are spelled the most popular way.

My cat has this name! I named her [name_f]Lily[/name_f] because I like that it’s spelled the same way as the flower. Changing the spelling felt unnecessary to me since most people would intuitively spell it like the flower. (For the record, I would have loved to name a daughter this, but the cat came first. Such a wonderful name!)

I love [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as long forms. I think you can easily get away with one or two L’s for [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Liliana[/name_f]. I do like the proper Latin/Spanish spelling of [name_f]Liliana[/name_f], though. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] would be gorgeous!

My favorite [name_f]Lily[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilly[/name_f] name is [name_f]Lillia[/name_f], although I do love [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] and [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] as well. I love longer names with nickname possibilities, which is why I could never see myself using just [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] as a full name. I do prefer the [name_f]Lily[/name_f] spelling though, out of the two of them

I love [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but it is popular. I would personally spell it with one L because I feel like that looks more elegant. My favorite variations are [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lillian[/name_f], [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], and Lilemor. If the popularity bothers you, go with a longer name and use [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as a nickname.

I have [name_f]Liliane[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] somewhere on my long list, so that’s my obvious [name_f]Lily[/name_f] pick. If I gotta opt for the shorter version though, it’ll definitely be [name_f]Lily[/name_f], spelled just like the flower. [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] always seems to me like having unnecessary extra L.

I also like [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilja[/name_f].

I like all of the spellings and prefer [name_f]Lillianna[/name_f] with the longer form but I go by [name_f]Lili[/name_f].

[name_f]Lillia[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f]

Somehow [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] with two L’s just looks wrong to me as a name, I much prefer the spunkier [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

My preference would be [name_f]Lillie[/name_f], regardless if it’s a nickname or not. I’m not as fond of the longer forms, although a pp’s use of [name_f]Liliane[/name_f] is lovely, & one of my nieces is [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lil[/name_f].

[name_f]Lily[/name_f]!! This is my name and I am very passionate that this is the best spelling. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] is a word in the dictionary, and I think you should spell it as it appears there.

I love [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lilli[/name_f] :).

A second L looks unnecessary to me and may cause confusion, so I’d spell it [name_f]Lily[/name_f].

I would spell her name [name_f]Lily[/name_f], or [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] or [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]… no double-l. My reasoning is that it’s very important to me to spell names “correctly” rather than according to desired sound or look. It seems to me that one l is the “correct” spelling as it refers to the lily flower, spelled (afaik) with one l in various languages. Personal preference

I’d spell it [name_f]Lily[/name_f], because it looks better than [name_f]Lilly[/name_f] and it seems more natural. I don’t see any reason why you’d spell it with too L’s.
