I know a little boy named [name_u]Orion[/name_u], pronounced oh-ryan. There’s also a character on [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Orion[/name_u], pronounced the same way.
I agree that Orien seems less confusing, although l’m not familiar with the name.
thank you for the response
yes, I would assume [name_u]Orion[/name_u] would be pronounced o-ryan so I would spell it Orien or Oriun to avoid confusion
Yes it’s pronounced Oh-ryan
I would spell it [name_u]Orion[/name_u].
Yes, as [name_u]Orion[/name_u] is a constellation, anyone familiar with it would pronounce the name like the constellation.
Orien would be more likely to get the pronunciation you want since it’s similar to Orient/Oriental
Agreed. I love [name_u]Orion[/name_u], but said the same way as the constellation. If you want oh-ree-ahn, I would probably spell it Orien.
I’ve added a poll to this thread now, i’m really keen to hear your thoughts on this conundrum…
is it better to keep the [name_u]ORION[/name_u] spelling and just correct people to the pronunciation we use
OR
use the ORIEN spelling to help guide them with the pronunciation
thank you

In all honesty, I think regardless of how you spell it most people will instinctively pronounce it oh-ryan until you correct them. If I had to pick between the two spellings I would probably go with Orien because it made me pause and think about why it looked wrong and then think twice about how I was going to pronounce it.
I would keep the correct spelling for sure!! [name_u]Orion[/name_u] is such a great name with a great meaning (whereas Orien looks made-up :/). I say Oh-ree-un too, and I have never heard O-ryan before.
People will hear you pronouncing the name and will use O-ree-un too. No worries
His name would be misspelled less often if you use [name_u]Orion[/name_u].
