[name_m]Hi[/name_m],
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you spell soph-eye-ah?
Not soph-ee-ah.
I met someone who’s name was [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] but pronounced [name_f]Soph[/name_f]-eye-ah. I really like this pronounciation but if it was spelt [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] she would constantly having to correct people. So how would you spell it?
Thank you,
[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
This is something I would really love to know too! The only Sop-eye-ah I heard of was spelt [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] as well.
I guess there’s Sophiah, Sophire, Sofiah, Sophiar…but they all look a bit made up and no where near as beautiful as it should!
I would spell it Sophaya or Sophiah
I’m more used to spelling [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] with an f (my niece loves watching [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] the First) so my first thought was to spell it Sofaya. Or like in [name_f]Maia[/name_f] to make it Sofaia. But to me those don’t look as pretty as it sounds :\
Safiya comes to mind, although the pronunciation is a tiny bit off (saf instead of sof). I think the rest look a tad ridiculous.
Safiya is not pronounced with a long I. It’s arabic and is said as “sa-fee-a” or “sa-fay-a”. To get the pronunciation you want I would go with [name_f]Sofya[/name_f] or Sofaya as suggested by pp
My [name_f]MIL[/name_f] knows someone who has a little girl with that name and I think she said her name is spelled Sophya.
I would just spell it [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. It is true that I automatically read it as SO-fee-uh, but I don’t think it would take long for people she knows to gather that it’s so-FYE-uh. I prefer spelling it [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] as it looks more simple and authentic, rather than something too made-up.
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it with this pronunciation! Much prettier and more classy than [name_f]Soph[/name_f]-ee-ya.
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] could work, but no one would ever get it right so it depends how much that bothers you.
Intuitively I would spell soph-eye-ya as [name_f]Sofya[/name_f] or Sophya, but they both look odd. Although I actually kind of like Sophya!
I don’t think soph-eye-ah sounds very appealing at all.
