I picked [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] because it’s how my [name_m]SIL[/name_m] spells it and is my daughter’s middle name. I also think this spelling is getting more common since it’s how [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] Markle spells hers, but [name_f]Megan[/name_f] looks “right” to me as well.

Honestly, if her middle wasn’t an honour name, I think I would have spelled it [name_f]Megan[/name_f].

Also, I met two baby [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]’s this month, and one was [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] and the other was [name_f]Megan[/name_f].

*edited to add : I would ask a [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] to spell out her name to me, it’s for sure “one of those names” that have many accepted spellings

[name_f]Megan[/name_f], though i might ask because ive known a few Meghans too

I chose [name_f]Megan[/name_f], but I would definitely ask her to spell it for me. I’ve known one [name_f]Meagan[/name_f] and she pronounced it differently.

I’m a [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and I always spell my name for people to avoid it being spelled wrong. I know a [name_f]Meghan[/name_f], [name_f]Meaghan[/name_f], and [name_f]Meghann[/name_f], so I never assume.

Ugh, I like the name quite a lot but I really don’t want to use “one of those names.” Our children will already be spelling out their last name their whole lives (unless daughters change surnames at marriage?) and I don’t want them to have to spell both. I had a straightforward first and last name until I changed to my husband’s and I don’t enjoy having to spell it out every single time. It’s such a shame since my hubby and I both like the name, which is rare!

Does it drive you crazy? My hubby and I would both prefer the straightforward “[name_f]Megan[/name_f]” but if everyone will be confused enough to ask for it to be spelled anyways, I think I’d choose to pass on the name :frowning:

[name_f]Megan[/name_f], the simplest spelling. In my experience nearly every name has to be spelled out nowadays.

I’m not sure. Either [name_f]Megan[/name_f] or [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]. Personally I know more [name_f]Megan[/name_f]'s, but [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] Markle has made her spelling more popular. If I were to write it down, I’m not sure which I would do. That said, I think I [name_f]Megan[/name_f] looks neater

As you had the option of [name_f]Megyn[/name_f], I assumed the pronunciation you are after is the same as [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] Markle, hence I chose that spelling. Being in Australia, I know a few [name_f]Megan[/name_f]’s but it has always been pronounced mee-gan.

[name_f]Megan[/name_f], personally dont think random letters are needed

[name_f]Megan[/name_f] - tidy and simple.

I take orders for decorated cakes regularly, and I’ve come to automatically ask for the spelling of even the most (seemingly) obvious names. There are so many variations out there nowadays that no matter the name, I think it’s always a good idea to ask to be sure. I’ve also found that with names like this that do have multiple common variations, the person will often automatically spell it for themselves quite happily without the need to ask. I mean, it’s only five letters, so really, would it be such a burden?

I think it depends a lot on how you would want it pronounced… most “[name_f]May[/name_f]-gans” I "now are spelled [name_f]Meagan[/name_f] or [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] but “Mee-gans” are [name_f]Megan[/name_f] or [name_f]Meagan[/name_f] 🤷
I think if you want it to always be said like “[name_f]May[/name_f]-gan” I would put the “h” in there unfortunately…

I think I would write [name_f]Megan[/name_f] if I had to assume the spelling, even though [name_f]Megan[/name_f] and [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] are pretty much equal possibilities in my mind. And I’ve personally met at least one of all the other variations too, so none of them are weird to me, but I think I would expect them to automatically spell out their names in a situation that calls for that. I think I would also expect a [name_f]Meghan[/name_f] to at least say [name_f]Meghan[/name_f]-with-an-H. But if someone simply told me “[name_f]Megan[/name_f]” on the phone, I think I would simply type [name_f]Megan[/name_f], assuming all the extra-letter-[name_f]Megan[/name_f]'s would automatically specify their spelling.

Also - I have a first name with 2 equally common spellings, and in my personal experience people often don’t ask me and very often spell it the other way, but it doesn’t bother me. Both of my kids also happen to have first names with 2 common spellings and people usually ask but sometimes get it wrong and that also doesn’t bother me. I don’t mind any of the spellings  so I find misspelling easy to fix/ignore but I would have a harder time with names that stump everyone due to more than one pronunciation option or just plain unfamiliarity.
