How would you spell this name?

We are thinking of naming our second DD [name]Lennan[/name] but recently came across a few different spellings. Which do you prefer for a feminine spelling and do you like the name with nn [name]Leni[/name]?
Middle name will be [name]Pearl[/name].

[name]Lennon[/name]
[name]Lennan[/name]
[name]Lenin[/name]
[name]Lenan[/name]
[name]Lenyn[/name]

Thanks!

Ouch, don’t do that! [name]Lennon[/name] is a masculine surname, not a first name for a little girl. If you MUST, don’t mess with the spelling, it really, really takes away from the name.

[name]Lennon[/name] – cute, but pretty heavy [name]John[/name] [name]Lennon[/name] association – if you’re cool with that.
[name]Lennan[/name] – The best.
[name]Lenin[/name] – Soviet revolutionary’s name. Not great.
[name]Lenan[/name] – ok, prefer the two n’s
[name]Lenyn[/name] – Dislike

I would stick to [name]Lennon[/name] even though it looks like [name]Lemon[/name]. [name]Lenin[/name] reminds me of [name]Vladimir[/name] [name]Lenin[/name].

[name]Both[/name] run the risk of being pronounced [name]Lee[/name]-nin
[name]Lenyn[/name]: trendy
[name]Lenan[/name]: still trendy. would use Lenanne.
[name]Lennan[/name]: still still trendy.

[name]Lennon[/name] is a very masculine name. Have you though about:

[name]Lena[/name]
[name]Lenora[/name]
[name]Leontyne[/name]
[name]Leona[/name]
[name]Lindsay[/name]
[name]Lorena[/name]

I agree - if you’re going to use this name, save the headache and spell in [name]Lennon[/name].
Another suggestion is the lovely Irish Liadan.

I would spell it [name]Lennon[/name].

Thanks for the replies so far. The spelling [name]Lennon[/name] is my least favorite as I find it masculine. I know alot of people may not like the name but I don’t see it as surname (even though I like [name]John[/name] [name]Lennon[/name]) the name has nothing to do with him. I [name]Just[/name] love the nickname [name]Leni[/name] and find [name]Lennan[/name] a unique and cool name for a girl. I like [name]Lena[/name] too but I guess I just don’t love it as much. I’m not 100% set, but so far no other name stands out to me in the same way.
I’m finding naming a second DD very hard… I already used my 2 favorite names on my first!!

I prefer [name]Lennon[/name] or [name]Lennan[/name]. I’d definitely avoid [name]Lenin[/name] because of the strong communist connotations.

Thanks, I forgot about that so [name]Lenin[/name] is definitely out! I’ll probably go with [name]Lennan[/name] (if we end up using this name)!

[name]Even[/name] though [name]Lennon[/name] is the most masculine spelling, spelling it any other way will still make people think “[name]Lennon[/name],” and think “masculine,” in my opinion. I would test it out a bit, see what reactions random people have. And I would consider other options if you have time. [name]Lenora[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Ellen[/name], [name]Leona[/name], Lency, Lenia, Lenina, [name]Lenna[/name], [name]Lennox[/name].

I like [name]Lennan[/name] best. [name]Lennon[/name]'s always looked too much like [name]Lemon[/name] in my opinion. People mispronounce names all the time, but I think being called [name]Lemon[/name] would be pretty embarassing. No matter how you spell it, I love the name [name]Lennan[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]! And [name]Leni[/name]'s a cute nickname.

I hope this doesn’t come out as rude. When picking a name for a human being who has to live with that name for the rest of their lives, “unique” and “cool” are not necessarily the best characteristics to go by when a choosing the name. It is a very masculine name, and the nn [name]Leni[/name], is just as masculine. Of all the names out there that are unique and cool, I am sure you can find some that are also beautiful, spunky, meaningful or at least feminine?

Sorry, but I don’t like that on a girl. However, if you really like it and want to use it, I would go with the [name]Lennan[/name] spelling. Looks more feminine.

It actually does come across as rude… I actually think unique and cool are good characteristics when choosing a name. I wouldn’t want to be named a boring name (I actually am) and wish my name was unique and cool sounding name (I’m not saying something so out of the box that isn’t even a name, I’m not into that). Everyone’s opinions are different when it comes to names… believe me I read some names on here and think they are just awful… I completely understand not everyone will like my name choices just as I won’t like everyone else’s names but I wouldn’t down right insult someone for their choices and why they made them. While I’m not 100% going with the name [name]Lennan[/name] I do not find it masculine at all and I have seen the nickname [name]Leni[/name] on many little girls and think its adorable.

It was her opinion, when you post something on the internet, you get opinions, simple as that - if you don’t like it, move on, no need to get your panties in a bunch. If you like it, great, but don’t post it on the internet and expect people not to say what they think.

Also - in the long run, “cool” is not going to serve your child well. Your child will spend the majority of their life as an adult and having a “cool” name is not going to help them.

I think “cool” should have been “interesting.” I don’t think you meant cool as in trendy/hipster/in-the-moment, I think you simply meant “not boring/old fashioned.” Am I right? Either way, at the end of the day it is your decision alone, and you have to love the name. The previous posters do have good points in that the child will become an adult, and [name]Lennon[/name] IS masculine (and [name]Leni[/name] IS cute), and while I don’t personally advocate boy names on girls or surname names on girls, I have seen girls wear masculine names well. [name]Sheridan[/name] is one example, I know two. [name]Just[/name] go with your heart and choose what you love saying.

Well, sorry if I was rude, just trying to be honest. I have nothing against names that are cool and unique. A name can be cool and unique, there is nothing wrong with that. I just feel like there should be something more substantial as well, such as meaning or history. If I was a little girl growing up and I had name that wasn’t at all feminine, as well as a nickname which was very masculine, and I was surrounded by Emmas, Elizabeths, Chloes, Sophies, Isabelles etc, I think it would bother me.

If you do use the name, pair it up with a feminine middle name.

I like your first variation of [name]Lennan[/name] or a more simplified spelling of [name]Lenan[/name].

[name]Lennon[/name] will definately be associated with [name]John[/name] [name]Lennon[/name] if that’s your intention. Also, it could be mistaken for [name]Lemon[/name] very easliy.

[name]Leni[/name] is cute, but very old school masculine.
