How's everyone feeling about George?

I’ve been out if the loop for awhile but recently found out I and pregnant again. My husband says if it’s a boy he will be [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] (both family names) now at first glance I say perfect, handsome, I love it. Then I thing [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m]?? Is [name_m]George[/name_m] the next trendy name? We have a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Jon[/name_m] (both family names) my husband also picked [name_m]Henry[/name_m] because it was a family name. While I love The name [name_m]Henry[/name_m] I feel like it is the new [name_m]Jack[/name_m], there is one on every corner. But in our area there are literally no [name_m]Henry[/name_m]'s under the age of 50 so I was happy to go with it.
I just don’t want to pick [name_m]George[/name_m] and then have 20 other [name_m]George[/name_m]'s follow behind due to the [name_m]Prince[/name_m]. Does anyone see this trending??

Not my style at all. I think it’s so dorky and dated.

I think it is coming back in style. It isn’t my favorite name, but I think it goes well with [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I think it depends where you live with the popularity of [name_m]George[/name_m]. In the USA, it isn’t very common at all, but I know it is really popular in the UK. I would check your country’s popularity list to be sure. If it is outside the top 200 you should be fine. I wouldn’t worry about the popularity unless [name_m]George[/name_m] is above rank 50 or 30 or so. I think [name_m]George[/name_m] ages well. Because it is a classic (like [name_m]Henry[/name_m], which I love) it is easily seen on all ages. I think you shouldn’t worry about it.
But if [name_m]George[/name_m] is too popular for you, maybe [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] is better. Again, not knowing how popular it is near you, if popularity is really important to you, then you may have to reevaluate. I think [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are lovely together, as are [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (but [name_m]George[/name_m] is better).
I hope that helped! Congrats and good luck!

I love it. [name_m]George[/name_m] is one of my all-time favorites for a boy. It’s timeless, versatile, and strong, and [name_m]George[/name_m] has more historical and literary associations than you could wave a stick at it. I love [name_m]George[/name_m]'s connection to the earth and the imagery it gives me. [name_m]George[/name_m] is red clay - the smell, the color, the feel of it in your hands. [name_m]George[/name_m] is also worn leather and warm fires and the smell of cedar and old books. I imagine this jovial man with a twinkle in his eyes and a deep belly laugh, and he definitely gives good hugs. I, like, really love this name. It gives me all kinds of warm fuzzies.

As for whether or not [name_m]George[/name_m] will become trendy in the US because of the prince… I doubt it. [name_m]George[/name_m] is already popular in the UK, and I’ve read that the popularity hasn’t been affected there. Everyone thought that Twilight would make [name_m]Edward[/name_m] rise, but it never happened. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] failed to make [name_m]Harry[/name_m] popular in the US.

[name_m]George[/name_m]–my all time favorite name–Can never go wrong with [name_m]George[/name_m]–and with [name_m]Henry[/name_m]?..gorgeous!

Thank you! I completely agree with the way you feel about [name_m]George[/name_m]! I’ve never met a [name_m]George[/name_m] that I don’t like!

I know a [name_m]George[/name_m] and it does feel dated, but not in a bad way. It is unique to see a young [name_m]George[/name_m] in my area.

I prefer the female versions of [name_m]George[/name_m], e.g. [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Georgiana[/name_f].

I really like the name [name_m]George[/name_m], it’s actually on my medium list. Since I’m not British, I’m not bothered by the [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] association. [name_m]George[/name_m] is currently ranked somewhere in the mid-100’s and I don’t see it becoming a top 100 name in the next few years. [name_m]Even[/name_m] if it does gain in popularity, I highly doubt it’ll be considered a trendy name.

[name_m]George[/name_m] is a timeless classic that’s been used for hundreds of years. It can’t be trendy because it’s always been used- it goes through cycles of popularity, like how [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are really popular these days but it’s rare to meet a young [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_m]John[/name_m], but they’ve all remained in use and people are familiar with these names even if they don’t know any personally. I love the royals so I like the [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_m]George[/name_m] association, but again, it’s such a common name that people won’t necessarily associate it with him. The good thing about such common/established names is the number of great namesakes- [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Washington[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Clooney[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Gershwin[/name_m], [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Bernard[/name_m] [name_u]Shaw[/name_u], etc.

So if you love [name_m]George[/name_m], use it!
