Anybody got any thoughts to share?

Some Hunger Games names are not usable due to the strong association with the franchise. I think Haymitch and [name_f]Katniss[/name_f] are two of the names that fit into this category. I guess you could use either in the middle spot but even then it just seems that the parents were strangely obsessed with the books and films. There are lots of great names contained in the books that don’t scream out Hunger Games because (1) they’re long established names and (2) they’re not specifically made up to sound like other names ([name_m]Hamish[/name_m]-Haymitch). In English, Haymitch sounds like someone is yelling “hey, [name_m]Mitch[/name_m]!”.

I quite like it, but I wouldn’t use it. It’s associated with the books/movies too strongly.

I completely agree with what [name_u]Mischa[/name_u] said. I would say that Haymitch is too ‘Hunger Games’ to be usable at the moment. However, there are others that would be fine! [name_m]How[/name_m] about…
[name_u]Gale[/name_u]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f]
[name_f]Johanna[/name_f]
[name_m]Cato[/name_m]
[name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_m]Caesar[/name_m]
[name_m]Claudius[/name_m]
[name_f]Portia[/name_f]

I’d say use the traditional [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] over Haymitch. The second is too linked to the franchise and for those people who haven’t read the books Haymitch just looks like a yooneek spelling for something related to [name_m]Mitchell[/name_m].

I voted no because it is too strong an association and I prefre [name_m]Hamish[/name_m]. However, I find his surname [Abernathy] to be nice and not as strongly ‘She is just a Hunger Games fan!’ baby name.
