Husband and I can't agree -- what to do!?

I admit I am extreme picky with names, but I’m the one whose been actively searching for one and he does not. We do have different naming styles and both do not like any of the same names! I don’t know what to do, flip a coin?

His top 3:
[name]Arden[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]
[name]Hartley[/name]

My top 3:
[name]Meredy[/name]
[name]Evita[/name]
[name]West[/name]

There is [name]ONE[/name] that we both thinks is ok, but wouldn’t be ecstatic about: [name]Earhart[/name] (yes as in [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Earhart[/name]).

And of course there are several others we each like. [name]How[/name] do we compromise? [name]Do[/name] we choose one the other doesn’t care for or pick one were both so-so about? Only 3 weeks left!

I wouldn’t go with [name]Earhart[/name]. It’s just too anatomical.

Have you tried putting both of your top lists into Nymbler and seeing what pops out? I actually don’t think your naming styles are that dissimilar - you both seem to like surname-y names, some that are most often used on boys, ([name]Arden[/name], [name]Hartley[/name], [name]West[/name]) and names that are a bit “exotic” ([name]Dahlia[/name], [name]Meredy[/name], [name]Evita[/name]).

Ideas:
[name]Aubrey[/name]
[name]Bellamy[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]
[name]Perdita[/name]
[name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Meredith[/name]

I actually think [name]Dahlia[/name] [name]West[/name] sounds great. Honestly I would do a compromise such as that versus trying to concoct an entirely new name list.

With our daughter, DH picked first name and /I picked middle, with veto power. He had three he liked, [name]Lily[/name], [name]Cassidy[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name]. I disliked [name]Lily[/name] the least, so that became her name (which by the way totally fits her- DH was right on the money.) For the middle name, it was down to my pics, [name]Wren[/name], [name]Ingrid[/name], and [name]Ireland[/name]. He liked [name]Ireland[/name], so that became her mn. You should be able to talk him into [name]Arden[/name] [name]Meredy[/name], which is lovely by the way.

I agree with another comment that your styles do not seem so different…perhaps you just need to look at and really consider MORE names…ultimately you both have to be reasonably happy with your child’s name…some more ideas for you:
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Acadia[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Avia[/name]
[name]Bryn[/name]
[name]Nova[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]
[name]Zanna[/name]
[name]Finley[/name]
[name]Aspen[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Tansy[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Spring[/name]
[name]Delia[/name]
[name]Lark[/name]
[name]Vesta[/name]
[name]Avita[/name]
[name]Skye[/name]

Ha! I never looked at/thought of [name]Earhart[/name] that way, but you’re so right!! Thanks for the tip

I guess it would appear our styles are kind of the same! But I think this is after I convinced him that I would never go for a name in the top 500 (really the top 1000). Typically he likes very classic but popular names like [name]Olivia[/name] and [name]Sophia[/name].

I do hate the idea of either one of us choosing a name that we “hate the least,” ya know? I’d like to choose one we both are head over heels over, I just don’t know if that will happen. There is so little time left; I fear we’ll end up settling on something.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ll run my favorites by him and hope something sticks!
