I know that I don’t really need to worry about what I’ll name TWO girls when I don’t even have one yet, but…
My top girl name is [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], but I also love [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as a possible sister name. Can I use both [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? I feel like it’s a faux pas, and I don’t want my second girl to feel like she got a second-hand name. But, at the same time, [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] feel like different names, and middle names are hardly used anyway, so it doesn’t seem like a huge deal.
What do you think? [name_f]Do[/name_f] I need to change one of the names, or is it no big deal?
As long as [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is in the MN spot, I think you can definitely use it. I would never use [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] & [name_f]Kate[/name_f] both as FNs though.
I would be more concerned with having [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] as sibling names. Kates are often given the cutesy [name_f]Katie[/name_f] as a nn so then you would have [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] and [name_f]Katie[/name_f] which isn’t ideal. Personally, I wouldn’t use the same name even if it is a different version. I love names so much that it would seem like a wasted opportunity. I think [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is quite stunning.
Call her both? I’ve been called both my fn and mn, and that’s exactly what I’m planning to do with my future kids. Why not call her [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? Sometimes she can be [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], sometimes [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
If it’s a middle name, I definitely would use it! Wouldn’t worry over it a bit. I mean you almost never say their names (first and middle) together, so most people would have no clue anyways.
I love [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] and [name_f]Kate[/name_f] together! I know several Kates and none of them get [name_f]Katie[/name_f] (although they’re both sort of popular in their own right here) plus [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] are quite different sounds anyway.
Having said that, I probably would avoid it with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] as her sister’s middle name unless [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is really important to you for honouring reasons or something.
Also, if I had a [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] I might call her [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] at times. Not an option if you have a [name_f]Kate[/name_f].
