Hypothetical Sister for Miss Ellie

Presently, my favourite name seems to be [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] (Before anyone decides to tear into me over possibly using a nickname as a full name - [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is to honour my mum, an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who dislikes being [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and prefers [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] and [name_f]Betsy[/name_f] to her own name. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is not changing to [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or anything else.).

With boys, I don’t think I have as much of a problem, because my top names all seem to fit perfectly with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], but for girls, I’m torn.

[name_f]My[/name_f] other favourites are;

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Darcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]

Which of these would work with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] for a sister? What other suggestions do you have?

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]
[name_f]Keira[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Darcie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Nancy[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]

I understand why you want to use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] as a tribute to your mama, but if she enjoys those other nicknames, why not use a name that could be nicknamed to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or even [name_f]Elsie[/name_f]? I’m thinking [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], ideally, or [name_f]Ella[/name_f], though she’s far more commonplace. [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” or even “[name_f]Elsie[/name_f],” feels a bit more complete to me and allows your future daughter the choice of a more formal name as well as a nickname. Plus, [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] is an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] variant, through and through. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought. However, [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] Rossum seems to be doing okay with a youthful nickname as her go-to name, so maybe it’s a moot point.

You could use another straight nickname off of your list with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], something like [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Lillie[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Nancy[/name_f], or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. You could use a name that sounds like a nickname but is also a proper name, like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] have the same youthful, frilly, cutesy feel, though [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] feels a tad more elegant. But, for versatility’s sake, I’d go with another classic name, nothing too staunch, but something equally feminine and charming. Off your list, [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Alice[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], or [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. (Which I also happen to love with [name_f]Elsa[/name_f].)

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]

Honestly, I strongly dislike [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], it just sounds very unappealing to me, and I can’t stand the thought of it being used on my future child, haha. I do like [name_f]Ella[/name_f], but there are a LOT of them around me, and none of them seem to be shortened to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], actually, I don’t know any little [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s.

I understand that, but if she felt [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] was incomplete, she’d have [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] and [name_f]Louise[/name_f] to go with too. I just don’t understand why I should use a name I don’t like in order to use one of my favourite choices. Not to mention that nicknames as first names are very ‘in’ where I live - [name_u]Josie[/name_u], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_u]Kenzie[/name_u], and [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] to name a few that I know of. In 20 years time, a nickname as a first name will likely be refreshing in comparison to the other kre8tiv names out there, haha. Thank you for your suggestions though.

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is sweet. [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is beautiful.

[name_f]Keira[/name_f]
[name_f]Darcie[/name_f]

[name_u]Georgie[/name_u]
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]
[name_f]Eva[/name_f]
[name_f]Katy[/name_f]

[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is my daughters name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Not [name_f]Elianna[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Bea[/name_f] ([name_f]Bee[/name_f]). She loves it. And she has already informed us that when she starts working she is going by [name_f]Elle[/name_f]. Lol. I do not like giving a long first name that never gets used because it’s gets shortened into a nickname. We get many compliments on it. Her sisters name is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f].

Here are my favorites from your list to go with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a sibling:
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]

Here are names we were considering if the next one we have is a girl to go with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Lyla[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Laila[/name_f]
[name_f]Farrah[/name_f]

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is beautiful.

Unless you want to create a theme, I’d rule out names that end or start with the same sound.
Example: [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] are adorable but [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] seems off.

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] - is a beautiful name, however, a four syllable full name sounds a bit much with a two-syllable nickname
[name_f]Layla[/name_f] - not loving it with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] - I don’t think [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] fits [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s style
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] - beautiful but seems very long and “full” next to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] would be great.
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] - same thing
[name_f]Keira[/name_f] - we’re getting there…
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - fits wonderfully with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - is a bit too similar
[name_f]Freya[/name_f] - great with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f] - very nice
[name_f]Summer[/name_f] - not my favourite with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] but would work

Personally I would pair [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] with a shorter (amount of letters), two or three syllable name.
It doesn’t have to be another nickname but I feel like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] would get lost next to very strong sounding full names like [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].

Also, wanted to add my good friend fell in love with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and recently asked me if she could name her next daughter [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], or if it would bother me. I said yes of course she can, won’t bother me at all! [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], not as a nn. I think she likes [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_u]Madison[/name_u]. Her other daughter is [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] [name_u]Addison[/name_u].

In my state [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is just so, so common, but it’s hidden because most of them have full names [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] etc. Not sure how it is where you (you sound British?) are but here at least I’d suggest using [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] over [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

Anyway, [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] is nickname name so it’s probably best to stay short and sweet with the sister sib so off your list I like: [name_f]Gracie[/name_f], [name_f]Freya[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].
Other suggestions: [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Ada[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Mina[/name_f], [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Jenna[/name_f], [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], [name_f]Kara[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Macy[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f].

I think my favorite would be [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] & [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f]

I’m actually Canadian with incredibly British influences  Haha. I don’t know any [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]'s at all, or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]'s, or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s under age 18. I know one [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] I went to high school with (1/4 [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]'s) who spells it as [name_m]Eli[/name_m].

Loving the suggestions so far!

I absolutely do not think you should use a name you don’t like. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t use [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] or [name_f]Ella[/name_f], then. And, I totally agree that nickname names are “in,” they’re in in a lot of places. They have been used for over a century. It wouldn’t be odd to use one, if that’s what you want to do. I do think [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is a really charming name; I just find [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] a little young, personally, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. I stand by my thought that, off your list, [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] would make lovely sisters to an [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

I could also see [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Clara[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f], [name_f]Faye[/name_f], [name_f]Faith[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Hattie[/name_f], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]Laura[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Lucille[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Patience[/name_f], [name_f]Rosanna[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], [name_f]Ramona[/name_f], [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f], [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Sosie[/name_f], [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], or [name_f]Willa[/name_f] with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. Good luck!

[name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] is gorgeous! I prefer [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] to any of its potential given names, too.

I could see these as sisters to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]:

[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f] (but I think [name_f]Grace[/name_f] works better)
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]

Thank you everyone, I’m really happy with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] [name_f]Katharine[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] myself

I think my favourites with [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] are:

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Layla[/name_f]
[name_f]Maisie[/name_f]
[name_f]Evie[/name_f]
[name_f]Martha[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Lillie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gracie[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]

I’m also thinking about [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], which seems to be a 2nd favourite.

I like [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and [name_f]Grace[/name_f], nn [name_f]Gracie[/name_f]. Unless there would be meaning in using [name_f]Gracie[/name_f] as the formal name, I like that they could have matchy names if they’re into that, or not if they’re not.

I love [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] on it’s own! [name_f]My[/name_f] mom has a friend who is in her late 60’s named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], but she has always gone by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. It’s super cute on a child, but it ages well.
