Hypothetical Sister to Bobby?

S/O and I have pretty well decided that [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] is the name for us if we have a boy. We love that it’s versatile, a bit classic, sporty and playful, and it has the added bonus of some great/cool namesakes (Bobby [name_m]Charlton[/name_m], [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] Orr, [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] [name_u]Brady[/name_u] from The [name_u]Brady[/name_u] Bunch, etc.).

Now comes the hard part - trying to find a girl’s name that compares to [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] (and further more, finding other boys names that compare, but that’s for another time). We have a solid list for a girl, but I’m finding myself questioning whether or not they feel right as a sister to [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]?

  • [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
  • [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]

  • [name_f]Dottie[/name_f]

  • [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] (bit too frilly with Bobby?)
  • Annabel(le) (again, too frilly?)

I love the idea of [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Mollie[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] has a really similar friendly vibe but there’s something in saying them together that gets a bit smooshed together- not as distinctive as two names like the ones above.

One I personally don’t love with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] is [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Maybe it’s the fact I’m a teenager but I would think of [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] pretty quickly if I heard [name_f]Millie[/name_f] & [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] as young siblings.

With [name_u]Bobby[/name_u], I think [name_f]Nellie[/name_f], [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] would work the best!

[name_u]Bobby[/name_u] is lovely!! I taught a little [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] once and he was such a cheery chap!!

I think [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_u]Florence[/name_u] “Florrie”, [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] work well

[name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Nellie[/name_f] sounds really good together, and you could theoretically use the nicknames [name_m]Bob[/name_m] and [name_f]Nell[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] most with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u]! :slight_smile:

But I also think [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], & co. sound nice with him, too.
The longer names like [name_u]Florence[/name_u], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] do sound quite mismatched with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u], so I’d probably cross those off, tbh.

[name_f]Maisie[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are probably my overall favourites with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] :slight_smile:

I think [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Dottie[/name_f] and [name_f]Orla[/name_f] would be perfect with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] :purple_heart:

@papergirlAC - I have to admit, one of my own favourites is [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] & [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]! Also love [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] - my mum’s family is from [name_f]England[/name_f], [name_u]Scotland[/name_u] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m] (she was the first one not born there) and she’s quite proud of her heritage, so I kind of like that [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] comes from the Scottish [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f]! Also I agree about [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] - they do fit nicely, but are almost missing something? If S/O agrees, I actually prefer Mollie-Mae :sweat_smile:

@eagleeyes - [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Orla[/name_f] are some I was leaning towards too (Maisie bc, like [name_f]Elsie[/name_f], is Scottish). I also forgot the [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] thing! Maybe [name_f]Millie[/name_f] should be saved in case I have 3, so that middle name can break it up a bit :joy:

@Greyblue - Oh that makes me so happy to hear you’ve known one! I went to high school with a [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] who was always really nice, but that’s the only one I’ve ever met personally. I think S/O’s come round to just [name_f]Florrie[/name_f], so that’s a plus :stuck_out_tongue: Also really like [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] - they feel really mid-century cute!

@elanorelle - Yes, [name_f]Ella[/name_f] works wonderfully too! :slight_smile: I like that they both have that sort of classic feel! I agree though, the longer names aren’t really a good fit with something short and playful like [name_u]Bobby[/name_u].

@futuremama - I thought the alliteration with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] would be a bit much :sweat_smile: But maybe I should think about it? I do really like [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] though now that you mention it too!

@Rosebeth - I hadn’t thought of pairing [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] with [name_u]Bobby[/name_u], that is quite perfect! :sparkling_heart:

[name_f]My[/name_f] brother is [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] and i’m [name_f]Molly[/name_f] (as a [name_f]Molly[/name_f] with a y i really dislike the [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] spelling) so I think they sound good together lol We also have a sister named [name_u]Julie[/name_u]
