Is it possible to get any other NN for [name_u]Bentley[/name_u], other than [name_m]Ben[/name_m]???
I can’t stand [name_m]Ben[/name_m]! And it seems like such a common, boring take on such a lovely name!
I know that people will want to shorten it anyway, even if my partner and I don’t… but do you think there is anyway to make sure he is not [name_m]Ben[/name_m]??
Other NN suggestions??
His initials would be BHX, which doesn’t really help or inspire any NNs either.
[name_f]Bett[/name_f] (kind of cool like [name_m]Jett[/name_m])
[name_u]Lee[/name_u]
Benz
You could just insist on [name_u]Bentley[/name_u]; being two syllables, it needn’t automatically be shortened.
From what I can tell, nicknames aren’t automatically bestowed on young children like I feel was the case for our generation. I know a young [name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] and a [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and that is ALL they are called.
But I get it. It isn’t a nickname for everyone. And you’ll have people wrongly assuming his name is [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], which isn’t nearly as unique and nice as [name_u]Bentley[/name_u]. I like the nickname [name_u]Lee[/name_u] for that, or like the previous poster said, just [name_u]Bentley[/name_u]. It isn’t too much to say.
I agree with [name_u]Jo[/name_u] [name_u]Jo[/name_u], nicknames aren’t automatically given these days. I don’t think [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] would need a nickname since [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] is short and easy to say. And I think [name_m]Ben[/name_m] is very much tied to [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]. I wouldn’t call a [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] [name_m]Ben[/name_m], I’d say [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] in full or maybe even Bentz.
I dont think it needs a nick name. For example my son [name_m]Nathan[/name_m], I cant stand the name [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. just dont care for it at all. so i dont all him that and insist that others dont call him that. he goes by [name_m]Nathan[/name_m]. But close friends and family call him Nug or Nuggy as a nick name. Because as a baby he was my snuggy nuggy and it stuck. So theres that. his nickname has nothing to do with his name at all.
Also my brother Kalten, goes by Kalten. not [name_m]Kal[/name_m]. and his nick name is Pup or Puppy. (or a zillion variations including pup. lol) Again, not at all related to what his name is. I wouldnt worry about it. Once the child is born and has a bit of a personality something will come up and stick or it wont and he will go by [name_u]Bentley[/name_u] forever. Which is totally fine. I wouldnt worry about it. Id just correct people if they try to call him [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. (like i do with my son.) a simple “His name is [name_u]Bentley[/name_u]” usually does the trick.
I don’t think [name_m]Ben[/name_m] needs to be or would necessarily be the natural nn. You said his initials don’t inspire any NNs, but I think BHX makes the perfect nn… Bex. You could also use Bent.
My oldest is [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], and I hate the nn [name_m]Fletch[/name_m]. With very rare exception of a few schoolmates a couple years ago, I have never had an issue with it. He goes by his full name (except when I call him Sweetie Pea). For my other son, we planned the nicknames [name_u]Cory[/name_u] and [name_m]Mac[/name_m], but neither has ever happened. He’s Cormo, Corm and occasionally Cormosis.
This was super interesting to read. Thanks everyone! I am so used to names getting shortened that I don’t think I considered people not trying to shorten [name_u]Bentley[/name_u]. But, yes, now that I think about it… a lot of littlies are called by their whole names.
I love the suggestions of Betz or Bex (A+ for seeing that one!) They are really cute. But as a few of you said, he would probably gain his own unique NN from family and friends anyway.
I feel like we will be those kind of parents. Very few of our select names have NNs or NNs that we like. I feel like “no, his name is…” will be a common phrase when I’m a mum… But I was interested to see if I could find any nice NNs for [name_u]Bentley[/name_u].
Why do you need a nickname? I have a [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and he is NEVER [name_m]Ben[/name_m]. We have only had to correct it a couple times. (I like [name_m]Ben[/name_m], but we don’t do nicknames).
