My parents named me Kelli “with an I” (a phrase I’ve said my whole life!) and while it has been something I have to constantly correct, and even though family members still spell my name with a Y at the end, I love being a little different and love the way it looks with the “I”. Which makes it interesting that I am so snobby and judgmental when I see other people using names with “creative” spelling.
So when it comes to picking out a name for our #3, we really love Brynn.
A problem I have with Brynn is the Y. Since I love my “I”, I have always had some distaste for "Y"s - the name Bryan with a Y irks me for example. Could we get away with spelling it Brinn? It seems along the same vein as what my parents did to Kelly/Kelli, yet it feels somehow “wrong” as someone who has devoted so much time obsessing about baby names.
Honest opinions please and thank you!
**let me add, I know it’s not a favorite of many Berries, and we’ve heard some negative feedback saying it doesn’t go well with our current kid’s names. It’s been called trendy and masculine, but, well, my dh and my names were trendy and it hasn’t bothered us, and we feel it is plenty feminine…so are keeping it on the list
[name_f]Brynn[/name_f] (as opposed to [name_u]Bryn[/name_u]) is already a mutated spelling, so I’m not sure how much difference one more change will make. There will probably be fewer people spelling [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] with an I, though, so your daughter won’t necessarily be able to give people the spelling of her name by employing the phrase “with an I.”
My honest opinion is that [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is beautiful…when spelled with a “Y”. [name_u]Brinn[/name_u] looks off to me. I do believe that [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] goes very well with [name_f]Isla[/name_f] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though you’re [name_f]Kelli[/name_f] and he’s [name_m]Brian[/name_m], I think it won’t justify it if you spell it [name_u]Brinn[/name_u].
I think [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] as well. [name_u]Brinn[/name_u] makes it too much like [name_m]Brian[/name_m] or “brine” to me and it looks off. [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] is lovely, I usually don’t like y’s in the middle of names but here it just seems right
[name_u]Brinn[/name_u] and [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] both look a little off to me; [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] has no real vowels, and [name_u]Brinn[/name_u] looks like brine or bin. I do, however, love nearly all of your other current contenders, particularly [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] and [name_u]Emmett[/name_u].
I guess if you really want to, [name_u]Brinn[/name_u] wouldn’t be tragic, but I think [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] would be best. I love [name_f]Brynn[/name_f]! Best of luck.i love your other kids names as well. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f] and [name_m]Grant[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] are lovely.
