I was asking my mom what she thought of some of my names, & she pointed out that [name_m]Miro[/name_m] was Spanish for “I watch”. I don’t necessarily think that this is bad but she says it ruins it for her.
I like the Slavic meaning (peace, world), & this doesn’t really seem all that bad to me, but I want to know your honest opinions.
But I guess I should keep in mind that this is the same person who laughed in my face when I said [name_f]Aviva[/name_f]-[name_f]Vela[/name_f] was kind of pretty.
I think [name_m]Miro[/name_m] is cute. I don’t think it’s weird unless Spanish is a language that you use on a daily basis and then I guess it might seem odd. Maybe a Spanish speaker can chime in on this.
I’ve heard the same thing mentioned about the name [name_f]Mira[/name_f].
I really like the Slavic meaning too.
for me it depends on whether or not you come from a spanish speaking family or live in an area with a high spanish speaking population. if the first is true, i’d avoid it. if the second is true but not the first, it’s not desirable but (for me) wouldn’t be a deal breaker. if neither is true, not a problem, go for it.
@lucyxo A lot of my family knows Spanish as a second langauge, but we don’t speak it day-to-day. (Unless we are saying something that we don’t want a non-Spanish speaker to understand, haha!) WDYT?
I’m conversational in Spanish and I didn’t think of Spanish when I saw the name [name_m]Miro[/name_m]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] so, it’s not like “I watch” is a bad meaning or anything.
If it was [name_f]Diablo[/name_f] or another well-known Spanish word with a bad meaning, then I would be against it. But I think [name_m]Miro[/name_m] is fine :))
I’m a teenberry, will not have a kid anytime soon.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] if I WAS pregnant, I’d want to know what my family thinks anyways.
I do talk to my aunt about names as well, as she is a fellow namenerd.
This is exactly why I ask people about my names, to see if there is any bad association or hidden meaning that I didn’t know of without having to clog people’s NB feed.
