The usual disclaimer: not pregnant, this thread is entirely hypothetical (until it is not)
So like the title says, I love boy names that end in -a, like, and to prove my love is serious some names that are quite out there as well:
[name_m]Ezra[/name_m]
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]
[name_u]Pasha[/name_u]
[name_u]Micha[/name_u]
[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]
Géza
Fedja/[name_m]Fedya[/name_m]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]
[name_u]Asa[/name_u]
[name_m]Attila[/name_m]
But the problem I have is that when I try to imagine the name in a sibset with girls I get stuck because my favourite girls names are short and end in -a too so on paper they share perhaps too many similarities with the boys name and that doesn’t feel right. The problem is not as big when it’s just that one sister, but when a second sister comes into play I really get stuck. So which two sisters would you suggest with any of these names? I don’t mind if you make a selection or just go with one name it’s all about seeing an example of what you think will work.
I picked my two favourites and made sibsets with them:
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u]:
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeva[/name_f]
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and Inés
[name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u]:
[name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Mari[/name_f] and [name_f]Alma[/name_f]
[name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Sabine[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]
It wasn’t on purpose, but it seems all the girls are one -a ender and one not ending in -a. I think [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Alma[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] would be okay as well, it’s just that I didn’t put them together like that earlier.
Most of what you listed are relatively obscure Biblical names and Russian names, so how about a few girls names that fall into those categories:
Adiel, [name_f]Kezia[/name_f], Myral, [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_f]Petra[/name_f]
[name_f]Vashti[/name_f] - one of these days I’m gonna get someone to love this name because it’s rockin awesome
I don’t think completely out of the question to have a sibset including something like [name_u]Luca[/name_u] and [name_f]Moriah[/name_f] – as long as the boys -a name doesn’t feel overly feminine (which none on your list do) having a sister who’s name also ends with an -a sound isn’t that big a deal.
So with brothers [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_u]Micha[/name_u], I’d go with 2 sisters: [name_f]Varya[/name_f] and [name_f]Petra[/name_f]
@sarahlou
Hey thank you, I like [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] very much too but I could never use it.
@dearest
Thank you so much as well!
I love the sibsets - [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeva[/name_f] & [name_u]Sasha[/name_u], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Alma[/name_f] and [name_f]Tessa[/name_f] would sound really cool too if it wasn’t for the fact that I grew up with various different Tessas but I still love the sound of that name so much so I am not entirely sure whether I would never consider it at all.
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] are two of my favourite names!
@kala_way
And thank you to you.
Indeed I like obscure biblical names in general. As for Russian that’s just a coincidence really, which is perhaps also why I have to tell you now that I’m slightly allergic to the name [name_f]Anya[/name_f]. I’m also not big on [name_f]Petra[/name_f], even though that’s Greekish.
I actually like the sound of [name_f]Vashti[/name_f] but I’d need some guts to actually use it! From that list I also like [name_f]Leah[/name_f] and [name_f]Kezia[/name_f].
Very interesting post. We have [name_f]Lilla[/name_f] and are considering using another 2 syllable name that ends in a as well. The general nameberry consensus is that as long as that is the only sound they share it isn’t a big deal. Like [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Willa[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is fine, but [name_u]Luca[/name_u], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] is not.
Awesome ^^
I’m glad you like them! I love [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] and [name_f]Willa[/name_f] as well, they are quite lovely with [name_u]Sasha[/name_u]
I love [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] but can never use it with my name (people already mistake me for an [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] sometimes). I know a sibset named [name_f]Leah[/name_f], [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_f]Tamar[/name_f], and I think they work well together.
There are a good amount of biblical women who have non -a endings, and if you’re looking for more feminine names without the a I’d suggest Israeli names. Lots of -et, -al, -it, and -el endings to choose from.
[name_f]Abital[/name_f] or [name_f]Avital[/name_f]
[name_f]Ayelet[/name_f]
Lirit (plus: translates to [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] and Poetic)
[name_u]Michal[/name_u]
[name_f]Mirel[/name_f]
[name_f]Nurit[/name_f]
[name_u]Yael[/name_u]
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_u]Andrea[/name_u], and my sister’s name is [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]. I don’t think the similar ending makes it too matchy-matchy because mine is more of a feminization and her’s a legit girls’ name. So [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and baby sister [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Noelle[/name_f]? I think it’s a non-issue. Here are some suggestions for the girls that don’t end with an -a if I didn’t convince you with my three sentences:
I don’t see that as a problem. I know a sibsets of [name_m]Ezra[/name_m]/[name_f]Clara[/name_f]/[name_f]Eva[/name_f] and [name_m]Jonah[/name_m]/[name_f]Stella[/name_f], and they’ve never struck me as odd.
I have [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] and [name_u]Luca[/name_u] on my list too. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite sister names for [name_u]Luca[/name_u] are [name_u]Seren[/name_u] and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], and I like [name_m]Ezra[/name_m] with [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f].
