I love the name Cersei...?

I love the name Cersei but whenever I say it, people think of Game of thrones. :frowning:

What do you think of when you hear Cersei?

I was thinking about maybe different variations of the name such as:
Circe- dont like the spelling. Scared people would pronounce as CERSE instead of CIR-CE
Sersi- Not a fan of the spelling. Don’t really like the S.

are there any other variations? Could Cersei be a nickname for a different name?

I love the name [name_f]Cersei[/name_f] too, but she’s such a diabolical and sadistic character, I couldn’t ever bring myself to use it. At least not when GOT is so culturally relevant.

[name_m]Xerxes[/name_m] sounds similar, but it’s commonly a boy name.

I do automatically think of Game of Thrones when I hear it, but I wouldn’t judge someone for using the name. In the [name_u]Marvel[/name_u] movie Eternals there is a character with this name spelled Sersi.

I actually have also started to love this name but it is still currently pretty connected to GoT. Normally an association to a character wouldn’t bother me too much but because the show was so big and still pretty recently, and mainly because [name_f]Cersei[/name_f] was the most evil character ever lol, I definitely would be hesitant to use it. I agree about not loving the S in Sersi as well, however that is the name of [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] Chans character in Eternals which does at least give me a much better association with it!

Some other names it could maybe be short for

[name_f]Cirilla[/name_f] - Not sure how naturally this gets to [name_f]Cersei[/name_f], and another issue is that it is also hugely associated with a TV show (The Witcher)

[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] - Again, not sure if its too much of a stretch but I do really like this name.

Cercira - Have never heard this name and just came across it looking up names that start with “Cer”. I’m not 100% sure how to pronounce it but think it works with [name_f]Cersei[/name_f] as a nn. But it is definitely uncommon.

Cercy
Cersi
Cerci

Admittedly, no matter how it’s spelled I still see [name_f]Lena[/name_f] Headey’s face

I do think of Game of Thrones, but now my first associate is the new [name_u]Marvel[/name_u] movie, Eternals, which also has a character with this name. This new character is a good association, I think! She’s pretty cool! Perhaps balanced out the GoT character?

But, truly, if you adore the name, then go for it! [name_f]Cersei[/name_f] is very pretty. I love that spelling!

I do think of Game of Thrones and I haven’t even watched/read it. That said, it is still a cool name but I do think people would constantly say ‘like from GoT?’

Maybe a stretch but [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] nn Cersi?

If it’s spelled [name_f]Cersei[/name_f], I would automatically assume it’s after the GoT character. Either of the other two spellings would lose that connection for me.

Since [name_f]Circe[/name_f] is from Greek mythology, I think that spelling is well known enough to be pronounced correctly! [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] [name_u]Chan[/name_u] has got Sersi growing on me but agree that it doesn’t look quite right. I would avoid [name_f]Cersei[/name_f] because of the GOT associate.

[name_f]Cersei[/name_f] sounds like a lovely name and I don’t immediately think of GOT. I think [name_f]Circe[/name_f] is the best alternative and I do see the problem with people mispronouncing it, but given it’s from Greek mythology I’m sure that it wouldn’t happen all the time. That being said, if you really love [name_f]Cersei[/name_f] than I would stick with that, even with the association.

I love the name too!! I don’t see myself ever using it due to the association though.

How could you not think of Game of Thrones if you’ve seen it? Can’t get over the association.
