I love the sound of ''Nevaeh'', but hate everything else about it! haha

I love the sounds ‘neh-vay’ it sounds very elegent and classy, but I hate the ‘heaven spelt backwards’ and the assosiations and how over used it is! I also hate the spelling!
Are there any alternatives said like ‘Nah-Vey’

Thanks!

I too like the sound, although more when pronounced Na VAY a, with a third syllable.

A few options:
[name]Esme[/name]/Esmee (some will put the stress on the end, some won’t)
[name]Estee[/name]
[name]Danae[/name]
[name]Monet[/name]
[name]Renee[/name]

[name]Astraea[/name] (Ast [name]RAY[/name] a)
[name]Linnea[/name] ([name]Lynn[/name] AY a)
[name]Noemi[/name] (No AIM ee)

It’s a little different from the sound you’re after…but I love Nevena, it’s a completely not made-up name in Bulgaria, Serbia, and Croatia (prob other places too).

It means “marigold”

You could leave off the H to get Nevae, but I don’t know of any established names with that exact pronunciation. Maeve is similar (muh-EH-va) as is Niamh (I’ve heard neev, nay-va, and ni-ev for this one).

I don’t know how do you pn Nevena, but I want to enlight some of you if you doesn’t know. Neh-veh-nah, eh is more like a in alphabeth.

You could use [name]Nieves[/name], one of the many names used in Spanish to honor the Virgen [name]Mary[/name] - traditionally given as [name]Maria[/name] de las [name]Nieves[/name] ([name]Mary[/name] of the [name]Snow[/name]).
Or [name]Nereida[/name] could also give you a similar sound.

Pretty sure [name]Maeve[/name] is pronounced MAYV.

I always assumed [name]Nevaeh[/name] sounded similar to Nivea lotion

My niece’s name is [name]Nevaeh[/name]. I think it’s beautiful. She is a spirited, bright, spunky little thing.

[name]Maeve[/name] is my number one choice for a little girl and it is pronounced Mayv. [name]Maeva[/name] would be pronounced Mayv-uh which is similar(ish) but I have never heard muh-EH-va it seems like a very awkward and unintuitive way to pronounce that name.

As mentioned earlier, [name]Neve[/name] or Neive could work. As well as [name]Niamh[/name], or its variation [name]Niamh[/name]. However, if you live in the US, the traditional Irish spelling could be problematic- possible Neeve or [name]Neeva[/name]?

[name]Maeve[/name] is a name I’m starting to like- as well as [name]Maeva[/name].

Some names that end with ‘ae’:

[name]Esme[/name]
[name]Renee[/name] (don’t combine this and the former)
[name]Lanae[/name]
[name]Monae[/name]
Lynae
[name]Danae[/name]
[name]Janae[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]
[name]Kay[/name]

Some other options are [name]Marea[/name] (mah-ray-uh; I know a girl named this) and [name]Larea[/name] (lah-ray-uh)

*As a side note, I pronounce [name]Nevaeh[/name] nuh-vay-uh- though I don’t know any girls with this name, so I could be wrong entirely.

Maybe you’d like the names [name]Nova[/name] or [name]Veda[/name]? You also might like the name [name]Neve[/name] or [name]Nieve[/name] (both pn. like [name]Eve[/name] with an N tacked on the front). [name]Both[/name] are diminutives of the gaelic [name]Niamh[/name] - just more “americanized”, whose meaning is brightness and beauty.

Nameberry is a funny thing. I was about to write something like, “[name]Just[/name] say no to [name]Nevaeh[/name]! Back away slowly.” What a snob! It’s funny how we get so invested in other people’s name choices, as if our own taste is so great and we’re going to save someone from a bad name. Maybe I am missing something. Maybe [name]Nevaeh[/name] is actually very elegant and I’m deaf to its beauty. If you love the sound of [name]Nevaeh[/name], maybe you should just name your daughter [name]Nevaeh[/name] and ignore us naysayers who think it’s kinda tacky. You’ve got to go with the name that’s music to your ears, not everyone else’s.

Go with [name]Nova[/name]

Nefeli/Nepheli means cloud in Greek and is kind of similar. It is pronounced “Neh-FEH-ly”

I knew a family that had a daughter named N@veigh Cl@ra Gr@ce, and I could never tell if her name was pronounced like neh-VAY or [name]Navy[/name]! I do sort of find Naveigh an appealing GP, though, and said Nah-VAY it sounds very similar to how I always imagined [name]Nevaeh[/name] would sound.

I say [name]Nevaeh[/name] as [name]Nuh[/name] vay uh, doesn’t everyone?

Maybe it is just where I am from, but whenever I’ve heard [name]Maeva[/name] spoken it has much more of a lilt to it than just MAYV-a/Mayv-uh, almost to the point of three syllables with the accent on the second. Kind of like m’EH-va or may-EE-va depending on whether your accent is a soft or heavy drawl. I prefer the former, as it sounds more elegant. Again, it could just be where I am from. In the deep South, y’all and ain’t are staples of the English language, and [name]Ben[/name] can easily become [name]BEE[/name]-yun…so yeah. There’s that.

That is how I pronounce. I used to give piano lessons to a little girl named [name]Nevaeh[/name] and that is how her family pronounced it. I never even realized it was “heaven” spelled backwards. I just thought it was a pretty name I had never heard before. I wouldn’t personally use it, but I do think it has a pretty sound.

emmabobemma has a point! so what if its heaven backwards it has a pretty darn beautiful sound! if you introduce your girl as “[name]Nevaeh[/name]” rather than “she’s [name]Nevaeh[/name], it’s heaven spelt backwards!” everytime its FAR less tacky! its when you have to let just about everyone know its heaven spelt backwards that it gets a bit iffy!

I also love [name]Maeve[/name], i wish i could use it but i know a [name]Maeve[/name]!

[name]Nevaeh[/name] is “nuh-vay-uh” if you want “nuh-vay” I’d go with Navay

A similar name is [name]Calais[/name] “[name]CAL[/name]-ay” or “Cah-lay”
