I named my friend's baby!

For the first time in my life some friends actually named their child the name I suggested! I’m sure all of you will understand my pride and satisfaction
Ironically, it’s not a name I love. Here’s how it came about:

Friends’ criteria:

  • Scottish ties a plus
  • Association with baby’s grandpa- [name_m]Rock[/name_m] (his real name!)
  • Mom’s favorite name is [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u]. Dad couldn’t quite get behind it.
  • Middle name probably Dad’s name ([name_m]Andrew[/name_m])

Anyone guess what I suggested? [name_m]Callan[/name_m]! [name_m]Callan[/name_m] is Scottish for rock! And boy, does it sound a lot like [name_m]Calvin[/name_m]! And it allows for the nickname [name_u]Cal[/name_u]. AND his initials spell [name_u]Cal[/name_u]! [name_m]How[/name_m] fun! [name_f]My[/name_f] friend told me the day I suggested it months ago that they loved it and were going to use it but obviously people are entitled to change their minds. However, little [name_m]Callan[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] was born a week ago on Father’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] here in the States- whoo hoo!

Wow, that’s so cool! I know that feeling, someone on NB revealed that they decided to use my suggestion for a name recently, though the actual baby wasn’t born yet. Good thinking, it seems to have worked out perfectly that it met all the criteria.

I know how you feel! That’s really great. I have a cousin who asks everyone in our family for name suggestions and then she just chooses two names she likes the best. It’s actually a very bonding experience.

That’s awesome!!! I can understand the pride and joy you feel. I named my friend’s dog, a few years ago. A reddish brown dog, they are big nature people, originally from [name_f]Canada[/name_f]: [name_f]Maple[/name_f]! Perfect name. I was so proud.

When I was about 10, my aunt was pregnant and I kept telling her how she should name her son [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], and she did! Not quite as proud of that one though, cause I’m not sure if it had anything to do with me, and I don’t love the name [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] anymore;)

Congrats! [name_m]Callan[/name_m] was a great suggestion and super cute.

Congratulations! That has to be a cool feeling. You suggested a great choice!

[name_m]Callan[/name_m] was great! I have named both of my BFF’s children, and it is a pretty cool feeling. I actually had a much tougher time naming my own than my friend’s!

[name_m]How[/name_m] exciting! When I was about 9 I picked my mother’s best friend’s daughter’s middle name. I was thrilled.

Thanks, everyone! I definitely feel a special bond with baby [name_u]Cal[/name_u]

What a great suggestion! I would be super excited too!

oliveshoot - love the dog name you came up with too!

When I was 9, my sister was pregnant with my niece. She let me choose the first name. And being 9, I wanted to be creative. So I chose Lexx!. Double X and everything. Today, six years later, I regret spelling her name like that and now I dont even like Lexx! (the name; [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] either)
