I need a name for a little sister and I don't like big sister's name. Help!

I have an older daughter whose name is [name]Kyla[/name] (she’s 11). I really really dislike it. I love my daughter and can’t really imagine her being anything else at this point but I would never pick it or anything related to it at this point (but she loves it). So my question is about picking a name for a girl now that I’m pregnant again. I like when I hear of other sibsets that go so well together but I don’t want something that someone would necessarily match with [name]Kyla[/name]. Does it really matter that much if their names are completely different? I am drawn to all kinds of different names but a few that really speak to me are:

[name]Olive[/name] (I really really love this, definitely my favorite)
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Phoebe[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Tess[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]

So what do you think? Pick my favorite or something that goes with [name]Kyla[/name] little better?

I should say, we pretty much always call Kyla, Ky.

I think [name]Olive[/name] is lovely, and I do not think it’s a bad match with [name]Kyla[/name]. If it’s you’re favorite, I would definitely use it. The name is popular enough that no one will think it’s weird, and yet not overly popular.

For the record, I really love the rest of your list, too. I think any of them would be excellent choices (except possibly [name]Quinn[/name], since [name]Ky[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] do not sound right to me)

I agree with dover, anything soft like Olive or Willow would go really well with Kyla.

There’s also:
Kyla & Colette
Kyla & Willemine
Kyla & Clover
Kyla & Pearl
Kyla & Saskia (bounces off the “k” in Kyla nicely, same with Anouk)
Kyla & Eloise/Elodie
Kyla & Amelie
Kyla & Eleanor
Kyla & Sylvie
Kyla & Avalon
Kyla & Marigold
Kyla & Ophelia
Kyla & Aurelia
Kyla & Florence (love this one for you)
Kyla & Violet (the double “eye” sound make the two names sound great together, nms Lettie & Ky)
Kyla & Alice
Kyla & Greer

Thank you both for the comments. I love [name]Clover[/name] but last name ends in er so it’s out. [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Florence[/name] are both family names that I hadn’t really considered but now that you mention them, I think I really like them. I also love [name]Violet[/name] but worry about the nearly inevitable nn of [name]Vi[/name] with [name]Ky[/name]. I like [name]Greer[/name] as well. I’ll run these past my husband.

Anymore comments about the names on my list or other suggestions?

I love your list! I think [name]Ky[/name] and [name]Olive[/name] are cute together, so if you really love that one, you should go with it! I think [name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] are perfect, so that’s probably my favorite as far as “matching” goes.

I <3 Olive & Tess with Ky.

I love [name]Olive[/name], [name]Hazel[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name], and the suggestions of [name]Florence[/name] & [name]Pearl[/name].
That being said, I think you should go for the name you love, [name]Olive[/name] & [name]Kyla[/name] aren’t terribly mismatched and would make cute sisters. As for sib sets I think [name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Phoebe[/name] are a better matched style/popularity wise.

Some other suggestions:
[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Piper[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]

I never worry too much about sibsets, unless it is something really obvious; having a boy named [name]Michael[/name] and girl named [name]Michelle[/name], or [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Henrietta[/name] for example. That would be too matchy in my opinion. I would just go with any name you really love whether it matches [name]Kyla[/name] or is completely different. I like all the names on your list except for [name]Olive[/name]. I would go with [name]Rowan[/name] or [name]Quinn[/name].

I wouldn’t worry about them having names that go well together, there’s a bit gap in age and times change and so do favourite names.

I think [name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Olive[/name] actually work pretty well, as do [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name]. [name]Tess[/name] is ok but very nicknamey.

[name]Rowan[/name], [name]Sloane[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] sound too masculine to go with [name]Kyla[/name] though.

Other ideas…
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Elodie[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Jessamine[/name] ([name]Love[/name] this)
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Eden[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Jovie[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Elowen[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] & [name]Scarlett[/name]

I think [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] go well with [name]Kyla[/name].

[name]Olive[/name] is nice too. I don’t think it matters much, since there is such an age gap between your daughters.

Okay, right now I think [name]Olive[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] are standing out for me. I’m just happy to have some encouragement for [name]Olive[/name]. I was so worried that everyone would say it’s way too vintage sounding to pair with the modern invention of [name]Kyla[/name]. (Btw, I had no idea [name]Kyla[/name] was a modern invention when I picked it. I’m convinced that if someone would have told me that and suggested [name]Lila[/name] as an alternative that I would have picked [name]Lila[/name] or something completely different).

I think I thought that people would pair [name]Rowan[/name], [name]Sloane[/name] or [name]Quinn[/name] with [name]Kyla[/name] just because they have a more modern sound, but I do favor the older feminine but not frilly names so I’m also happy that they are not standing out to you berries as being a much better fit.

@alexa400, my husband would love your suggestions, he’s been pulling for [name]Ivy[/name] and [name]Ruby[/name] :), for some reason I don’t love them, not sure what it is, maybe too girlish? I have a niece [name]Stella[/name], it’s adorable. And [name]Piper[/name] I remember loving when I had [name]Kyla[/name]. I loved Charmed though and assumed everyone would think of the show. I have wished several times that I just went for it but have also realized that it’s not the best fit with my two syllable, ending in er last name.

Here are my suggestions:
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Juniper[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] (I know you like [name]Quinn[/name] and it sounds really cute!)
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Polina[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Beatrice[/name]
These are just some names I think would be cute with [name]Kyla[/name]!

I like [name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Sloane[/name] together. [name]Olive[/name] is beautiful and goes well too. The rest either aren’t my style or I don’t like how they sound with [name]Kyla[/name], but none of them are bad.

Hmm, I personally would put [name]Kyla[/name] not in the “soft, sweet” category, but the “spunky, crisp” category. That’s why I like [name]Olive[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Tess[/name], and [name]Quinn[/name] with [name]Kyla[/name]: they’ve got hard sounds that sound fresher and feistier. I think your favorite, [name]Olive[/name], would work fine with [name]Kyla[/name]: [name]Ky[/name] and [name]Liv[/name] are both short, gutsy nicknames and the full names are short and fun. I wouldn’t go with something longer or more fussy, so where I love suggestions like [name]Wren[/name] and [name]Clover[/name] (I hear you on the -er front, though), I personally wouldn’t pick the flowery [name]Ophelia[/name] or lengthy [name]Seraphina[/name] (just my opinion).

I know an [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Kyle[/name] sibset and it works fine so I agree [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Kyla[/name] is fine. [name]Ky[/name] and [name]Liv[/name] is super cute. Good luck!

I think [name]Tess[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] would be perfect with [name]Kyla[/name]!

I quite like [name]Kyla[/name] personally! to me it is soft sweet with a bit of spunk mixed in! far prefer it to [name]Kylie[/name] and [name]Kayleigh[/name].
I personally am not a fan of [name]Olive[/name] as a name, i eat olives and they’ve been a big pregnancy craving (hehe) so i find it hard to see as a name. [name]Kinda[/name] like naming someone [name]Apple[/name] i think! but there are loads of people who love it so thats just my opinion really.

[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] is so sweet!
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] (love the L sounds!)
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name] ([name]Pearl[/name] is so sweet!)
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Quinn[/name] (I like [name]Quinn[/name] but not as much as the ones mentioned above)

I also like the combo [name]Willow[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] Surname
[name]Willow[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] is adorable!
and so is [name]Pearl[/name] on its own and [name]Willow[/name] on its own! i [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Piper[/name] too (fell in love with it from watching Charmed too hehe) but [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Willow[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] are probably my tops for you.

[QUOTE=becaroo;1649287]I quite like [name]Kyla[/name] personally! to me it is soft sweet with a bit of spunk mixed in! far prefer it to [name]Kylie[/name] and [name]Kayleigh[/name].

Ahh, thanks! It’s strange, I guess I’ve probably let too many forum posts get to my head. I do like the sound and obviously loved it at one time. I just hate that I didn’t know anything about names when I picked it and it doesn’t have a good meaning or any real history as a name. I also hate that it is lumped into the [name]Kylie[/name], [name]Kayla[/name] super-trendy category. She gets called [name]Kayla[/name] a lot and while it doesn’t bother her, it kills me because I really hate [name]Kayla[/name]. But like I said, I do love her and she is [name]Kyla[/name] through and through.

I had kind of written [name]Willow[/name] off but I like the L sounds together too, it kind of connects [name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] doesn’t it?!

Loving [name]Phoebe[/name] more and more all the time too.

[name]Kyla[/name] and… [name]Olive[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Willow[/name]… [name]How[/name] will I ever decide???

Oooh, [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Phoebe[/name] are so cute and spunky together!
But [name]Olive[/name] and [name]Willow[/name] is so soft and sweet! And they’d all have L’s in the middle to connect them.
Haha, here I am pretending like I have an [name]Olive[/name] and picking the next daughter’s name already. Looks like I’ll need to have another! But also looks like I’m not letting go of my [name]Olive[/name]. She must be the right pick for this one!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement to go for what I love. I suppose after saying their names together for a while, they will go together to me and everyone who knows us even if they won’t ever be listed as a perfect sibset.

I dunno, I don’t like the idea of giving your next daughter a name that’s so stylistically different, especially because you really really really dislike your eldest daughters name.

I think that’d cause a good amount of tension/resent me. I think it’s best to go with a middle ground.

[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Hazel[/name] fit well.
[name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] are great as well.

I really like [name]Tess[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name] or [name]Quinn[/name]. All of them sound great with [name]Kyla[/name], which is a very nice name! I think [name]Tess[/name] would be my favorite. The names both have four letters which is a subtle link, and also sound beautiful together! [name]Kyla[/name] and [name]Tess[/name] would be awesome sisters.
