Okay, I am 9 days away from due date with 3rd baby (sex unknown). We are not settled on a boy name. We were settled on a girl name, but now my mother has bashed it and while I could just try not to care, she has made me question our pick. I didn’t tell her what it was, but I must have mentioned it in my postpartum stupor after our 2nd son was born. Ugh! Our 2 boys are named [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. We tend to like traditional or Irish-leaning names, but nothing overly Irish as our last name is not Irish. I like names that fit well on a baby or an adult. Prefer shorter names or names without nicknames on a boy. Very concerned with how the sibling set sounds together, because I’m crazy like that. Here’s what we’ve come up with (but are in love with nothing):
I like [name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] the best for the boys. [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] will most likely get shortened to [name_u]Pat[/name_u], so if you don’t like nicknames, I wouldn’t use it for a first name. [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is really nice. Was that the name your mom didn’t like?
I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! Out of your boys options, I like [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Brian[/name_m] the best. I suppose there is a chance for nicknames with [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], but with it only being two syllables I can’t imagine that would happen much (and you can always correct it if it did.) I’ve only known one [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] that I can think of and I never heard him called by any nicknames. Have you considered [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_u]Rhys[/name_u], [name_u]Reid[/name_u], or [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]? Those strike me as a good fit with your other boys.
Yes, that was the name she didn’t like. I really don’t care if she likes it or not- meaning, that I would totally name the baby [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] anyways. But…she just made me question myself. I don’t know why she had to say anything at all. After she told me about her dislike for the name, I said: well, if the name ends up being [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] you are going to be kicking yourself for saying anything negative.
Oh and I really like [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Brian[/name_m] as well. [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] are my 4 year old’s favorites. Ha! Oddly, he has also suggested [name_u]Reid[/name_u] to us as it is a boy in his class.
Boys-
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u] are very cute
Some other possibilities:
[name_u]Toby[/name_u]
[name_m]Ewan[/name_m]/[name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_u]Conner[/name_u]
[name_u]Flynn[/name_u]
Girls-
I think [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] and [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] are cute especially with [name_f]Grace[/name_f].
some other possibilities:
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] ([name_f]Millie[/name_f])
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] ([name_f]Tilly[/name_f])
I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f], because [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] is a timeless, classic name and has lots of nicknames but none of them are too obvious, so a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] won’t automatically be shortened to anything. Some great nicknames are [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f] and [name_f]Maisie[/name_f].
I adore [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]! I would have used [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] if we’d had a second daughter. [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] is such a cute nickname, and there are so many others too.
For a boy, I love [name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. I also like the name [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] as a first name but I feel like it would be shortened to [name_u]Pat[/name_u], and I hate that.
[name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] is my favorite of your boy combos. I also like [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Brian[/name_m], but I am pretty sure that he would end up being called [name_u]Pat[/name_u] or [name_f]Patty[/name_f].
(Also, if you used [name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], your children’s names would all have different endings, instead of the repeating -ck end, and they would all have the same amount of syllables - 3, plus the last name. I don’t know if you care about that.)
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] is lovely, and I love nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f]. [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is pretty as well. (I think that [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be lovely.)
I think that [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] would go better with your other children’s names than [name_f]Molly[/name_f], but either would work well, [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I like [name_u]Sam[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Brian[/name_m] from your list. I am in love with the name [name_m]Breccan[/name_m] atm. It is Irish, and I think it sounds great with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. Another top pick for me is [name_m]Hugh[/name_m]. I think it sounds great with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m]. I also suggest the names [name_u]Barry[/name_u], [name_m]Kian[/name_m], [name_m]Collin[/name_m], and [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. I love the middle name [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]!
I like [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Brian[/name_m], or even better, [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] [name_m]Byron[/name_m] (like [name_m]Lord[/name_m] [name_m]Byron[/name_m]) since it is less common than [name_m]Brian[/name_m].
