I have most of my girl names figured out but boys are so much harder. I have really been liking [name]Boyd[/name] with the nn [name]Bo[/name]. What do you think? Is it too country bumpkin or would it be fresh?
I like [name]Boyd[/name] a lot! I first heard it on the TV show Dollhouse, which was canceled a few years ago. While that character was… uh, well, less than savory, lol, I still really like the name, and I’m a sucker for [name]Bo[/name]/[name]Beau[/name]! I would love to meet a little [name]Boyd[/name].
I like [name]Bo[/name], but I’m not as keen on [name]Boyd[/name]. Sounds somewhere between “boy” and “bored” to me. There were some Boyds in my (Southern) town growing up, so I also associate it with the South (although not necessarily bumpkin).
I’m kind of indifferent about [name]Boyd[/name], I kinda like it and I kinda don’t like it. I don’t like the name [name]Bo[/name], I may just be biased because my grandparents once had a dog named [name]Bo[/name].
I don’t get [name]Bo[/name] from [name]Boyd[/name], sorry. I don’t mind [name]Boyd[/name], it was the name of a character in a crime series in the UK and I guess it’s kind of quirky and I’d be intrigued to meet a little [name]Boyd[/name].
I do NOT like [name]Boyd[/name]. The “oid” sound gives me negative vibes, and it feels robotic. There are so many better names out there, [name]IMO[/name]. Its just…weird. Sorry
I can see [name]Bo[/name] as a cute nn for a name like [name]Bowen[/name] or [name]Bogart[/name], but I’m not really seeing that as a nn for [name]Boyd[/name].
[name]Boyd[/name], like [name]Floyd[/name], seems really old-fashioned to me.
[name]Cris[/name]
I like the name in theory, but I actually know a guy who has this name, and [name]IRL[/name], it sounds strikingly similar to the word “boy.” This has resulted in some funny nn’s and jokes. If you’re going to call him [name]Bo[/name], that might help minimize confusion regarding “boy.”
I really love [name]Floyd[/name], so I’m probably biased in liking [name]Boyd[/name], too. [name]Bo[/name] is an adorable nn.
I agree with phillipswife. The d isn’t very obvious when the name is said aloud. I’m also not a huge fan of the “oid” sound. Still, though, I don’t think it’s a bad name.
[name]Boyd[/name] isn’t a bad name. I’d be intrigued to meet one. I don’t understand the need for a nickname for a one-syllable name though.
I actually like it, although I’m not sure I hit the ‘d’ when I pronounce boyD either. I think it works just fine with [name]Bo[/name]. I know people named [name]Robert[/name] and [name]William[/name] who go by ‘[name]Bo[/name]’. I think people are too picky about making nn’s PERFECT. My nickname is Cruella, and you don’t get that from [name]Kerrie[/name] straight away, do ya?
(PS: I don’t hate puppies, it’s just a nickname)
Thanks everyone for the input! I get the feeling that people like it kind of sort of, but it’s not a name most people would get super excited about. That’s why I asked. I just wanted to get other people’s perceptions. That’s why I love this site. Most Berries seem pretty intelligent and are not afraid of names you don’t hear very often. I like that even if it’s not their style they will give you an honest assessment. As far as the nickname goes, [name]Boyd[/name] doesn’t really need a nickname, but I think [name]Bo[/name] is cute. I don’t think that [name]Bo[/name] for [name]Boyd[/name] is completely intuitive, but at least it has the letters for it. @[name]Kerrie[/name] is right, people get nicknames from a whole lot less. Thanks again for the feedback!
