Okay…maybe not weird exactly, but different (and sometimes different is construed as weird). I’m trying to compile a list of options that aren’t something you hear every day and maybe even never. I don’t like made up names! I want real names with history but not really familiar. For example, you may not hear the name [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Maeve[/name] on a lot of little girls but they’re probably still fairly recognizable to most people. I want names that you don’t hear everyday or even most days as the case may be!
I like hippy/nature names or really anything that sounds like it may be from the future or the really far past. I also like names that sound like they could be fairy/fae/elven names. [name]Just[/name] something different!
Edit I’m sorry if I’m not explaining myself very well. I want names that are obscure but not awful tongue twisters. When I say older names I don’t mean vintage or granny chic. I mean names that probably haven’t been used much in the last few hundred years, give or take. Also “fairy” names that conjure up images of nature and magic and sparkly-beautiful-fairyland and green meadows and magical forests…I don’t know if that helps at all but it’s the best I can do. Maybe once there are some suggestions I can give a better idea of what I’m looking for.
I apologize I’m having a hard time describing what I want.
I like pretty much all of those Nature names but especially Meadowsweet (love it), Foxglove, Honeysuckle, [name]Columbine[/name], Aventurine. [name]Pelagia[/name] is interesting and [name]Thalassa[/name] is kind of pretty, too.
From the older sounding names I like [name]Hypatia[/name], Nimue and [name]Melusine[/name]. I love [name]Sappho[/name] and Astarte but [name]Sappho[/name] is a fairly well known poet and Astarte is a goddess so I woudn’t use them even tho I really like those two the most on that list.
I love [name]Aries[/name], [name]Athena[/name] and [name]Atlas[/name] but they have the same problem as [name]Sappho[/name] and Astarte. The rest, though lovely (love [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Wren[/name]!) are too familiar. I need a little more obscure.
I’m going to give you some more from my lists:
Winterrose
Damascena
Tiarella
[name]Snowdrop[/name]
Periwinkle
Pipinella
[name]Mimosa[/name]
Lunaria
[name]Fiorella[/name]
[name]Eglantine[/name]
Bellonaria
You could look up names of ancient cities. I’ve found that a lot of them had really cool names. Google phrases like “list of Biblical cities” and “list of cities in ancient [name]Rome[/name].” You may get some inspiration.
I’ll give it a shot!
[name]Arianwen[/name]
[name]Ceridwen[/name]
Thistle
[name]Wisteria[/name]
[name]Lotus[/name]
[name]Doveva[/name]
[name]Nixie[/name]
r_j those are all really great. [name]Ceridwen[/name] seems like a fairly well known story to me or at least the name is familiar. [name]Lotus[/name] and [name]Wisteria[/name] are a little familiar as well but they’re not common (like perhaps [name]Rose[/name] or [name]Violet[/name]) so I would still consider them. I like [name]Doveva[/name] it’s and [name]Nixie[/name] is really cute.
Some from my list of guilty pleasures:
Buriana

Kateri
[name]Cleopatra[/name]
[name]Nefertiti[/name]
Aleydis (I love this one)
[name]Galatea[/name]
[name]Esperanza[/name]
[name]Esmeralda[/name] (I’m pretty sure both Es- names rank in the top 1000, so maybe not “weird.”)

[name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Zephirine[/name] - A feminization of the name of the god of the west wind. Has a very fairytale feel to me, and its most famous bearer is a variety of rose.
[name]Celestine[/name]
Belsante/Bellicent - A minor character from Arthurian legend and a pretty sweet name.
[name]Xanthe[/name]
[name]Zehava[/name]
[name]Isolde[/name]
[name]Rosalba[/name]
[name]Raziela[/name]
Belphoebe
[name]Gwyneira[/name]

[name]Gwendolen[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Ariadne[/name] - maybe more well-known than some of the others, but not very used.
