[name_m]Hi[/name_m] again berries! I posted a few days ago and didn’t get as much feedback as I’d hoped, but I’m back with a new name suggestion for my little girl. Lately I’ve been thinking about the name [name_f]Topanga[/name_f], which I’ve always thought was pretty and unique and I love that it means “where the mountain meets the sea”. [name_f]My[/name_f] five year old’s name is [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and I am having such a hard time deciding what name to give this little blessing who will be here in a matter of weeks. So I want honest opinions on the name [name_f]Topanga[/name_f], and I know we all have our own and some will maybe love it and some will hate it, but I just want to get feedback! I want a name that is rare or not that popular, as for instance I would never name her [name_f]Emma[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], as I love both of these names but she’d easily have 5 other Emmas in her class and I want something that’s unique but sticks out.
Besides [name_f]Topanga[/name_f], here are the other names that I’m going back and forth with to give ideas of what I’m looking for.
[name_f]Selena[/name_f] (this seems to be the number one like with family and friends, and as beautiful as this name is and as good as it fits with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] because [name_f]Stella[/name_f] means star and this name means moon, I think it’s too close to [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. I call her Stelly already and I can see myself calling her Selly and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] thinking I called her.)
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f]Maya[/name_f]
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
Also, sidenote, can someone tell me how to link the names to the nameberry name page?
I think [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] is cute, but of course I always think of Boy Meets World. But if you love it, go for it! I know a girl who used it for one of her twin daughters.
I think [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] won’t get the same effect as your daughter’s name has when they meet her. It’s a bold choice. I don’t like it with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] at all.
I love [name_f]Stella[/name_f] with [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] or [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]. [name_m]Both[/name_m] gorgeous, feminine choices. You can choose to influence [name_f]Valentina[/name_f]'s nn away from [name_u]Val[/name_u] to [name_m]Len[/name_m] or [name_f]Tina[/name_f]?
PS. You may have already figured it out, but nameberry auto-links names after the a post is live for a few minutes… no need to do anything.
I love your choices of [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. [name_f]Marina[/name_f] brings to mind the sea, and I think sea and stars are also a beautiful combination. [name_f]Starlight[/name_f] glittering on the dark blue ocean.
Because you like the associations, have you considered [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]? It would be pretty cute with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] too. [name_f]Sun[/name_f] and Stars! And they could both have pretty district S nicknames.
To be honest, I do not like the name [name_f]Topanga[/name_f]. All I can think is Boy Meets World!!! Not a bad association by any means, but I also just don’t like the name in general.
I love [name_f]Selena[/name_f], and the star and moon connection with [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. You could call her [name_f]Lena[/name_f] instead of Selly to avoid confusion. I also like the suggestions of [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Soleil[/name_f].
I like all of your choices for names except for [name_f]Nadia[/name_f]. I don’t know what my problem with it is! Also, [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] may have some bad comments, although I wouldn’t worry if I were you.
I like the name [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] better out loud than written down. Also, I do see the Boy Meets World connection (which I really like), but I don’t think the next generation would know. At most, they’d go with Girl Meets World (yes, I know it’s a continuation — I watch it)…
Good luck and happy naming!
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] would be so perfect together!
Besides the Boy Meets World association (which probably won’t matter for little kids nowadays) I just don’t think [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] has a very pretty sound.
I’m sorry, it’s a one-character name for me and feels odd next to [name_f]Stella[/name_f]. Not that your names have to match, but I could see [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] being mad she got the “weird” name or [name_f]Stella[/name_f] feel bad she got the “common” one. Could you call [name_f]Selena[/name_f] [name_f]Lena[/name_f] for short so Selly and Stelly doesn’t happen? I like [name_f]Selena[/name_f], [name_f]Marina[/name_f] and [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] so much!
I like the star/sea thing you have going, too. I think your list is great as-is, but a few others are
[name_f]Thalassa[/name_f] (sea)
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (daughter of the sea)
[name_f]Nerissa[/name_f] (sea nymph)
[name_f]Talullah[/name_f] (leaping waters)
[name_f]Vanora[/name_f] (white wave)
[name_f]Marisol[/name_f] (sea + sun)
Thanks for all your opinions! I still can’t shake this name. I’m still considering other names but it’s so hard naming a child!!! I just want it to be perfect!
[name_f]Marina[/name_f] & [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] are pretty great! I have been called [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] pretty much my whole teenage and adult life (I have a strong resemblance to [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] on Boy Meets World). With that being said, I HATED IT. People would call me Top for short. It was just awful.
I understand your pain!! I was called [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] when I was little because I resembled [name_f]Mariah[/name_f] [name_u]Carey[/name_u] and I always thought it was annoying. But there are so much more worse names to be called than Top! Though I bet it was annoying especially if you didn’t want to be called that!
I like every single name on your list more than I like [name_f]Topanga[/name_f]. [name_f]Stella[/name_f] is a lovely name that will fit in well with her peers (name-wise). [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] on the other hand isn’t nearly as lovely. I think she might end up wondering why her sister has such a pretty name and she got stuck with [name_f]Topanga[/name_f].
All the names on your list are beautiful. I vote for [name_f]Selena[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] own middle name is [name_f]Celina[/name_f] and I love it. It gets a lot of compliments.
[name_f]Topanga[/name_f] really doesn’t work with [name_f]Stella[/name_f], sorry, for one thing it’s MUCH more unique and a totally different style. To me, it doesn’t seem as soft and graceful as [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
I still love [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Maya[/name_f], they match without being matchy. I think that these two are perfect. I also think that [name_f]Juliana[/name_f], [name_f]Valentina[/name_f] and [name_f]Marina[/name_f] give off the same beautiful, classic vibe as [name_f]Stella[/name_f].
I don’t think [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] would be a great choice for [name_f]Stella[/name_f]’s sister. They feel so off kilter together and I fully agree with the “weird”/“boring” name dilemma. Have you considered it as a mn instead? I think that could work nicely and you’d get to keep the name you like.

it is very Boy meets World but if that’s why you like it, that’s cool. [name_f]Topanga[/name_f] on the show was a great character.
I think if you are a few weeks away from giving birth make sure you really love a name that you just recently were reminded of instead of being is temporary, hormone enhanced, infatuation. You are going to want to love this name for the rest of your life.
[name_f]Topanga[/name_f] will probably always remind me of Boy Meets World. Not that its necessarily a bad thing, she was a great role model. And your children probably won’t associate it with the show (though parents will).
