I will change my son's name

I’ve decided to change our son’s name and do it sooner rather than later because I want to get his passport ready (maybe we’ll be going home) and most impostantly, baptize him.

I liked every name my wife considered for our son. My contribution to her ideas was more feedback and questions, because I couldn’t think of any name myself. The list she took with her to the hospital ended up like this:

Anthony
Oliver
Adrian
Emmett
Marius
Domino

The last one was the one that made me go “say that again?” but now that I see it, it makes much more sense and I like it as much as the rest.

My wife’s name was Annemarie, which makes me wonder if Marius should be his name…she liked it because of the character in Les Miserables, but now it really sounds like Annemarie to me. I don’t know if that’s good or bad, or both…

I also know she considered Anthony because of her devotion to Saint Anthony. She had a little medal with Saint Anthony and the Christ Child that she wore every day since she was a teenager. I’ve been wearing it for her now until our son is old enough to get it, and he’ll decide what he’ll do with it.

I don’t know what she liked about Oliver, but I liked it the most before he was born. I thought it sounded the best with our last name and our baby does look like an Oliver to me. I don’t even know how to explain that.

Adrian, Emmett and Domino are names that she liked. I don’t know where they came from or why they’re on the list, but if she liked them then they also mean a lot to me now.

I think [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is a handsome, underused name! I absolutely love that it sounds like [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f], and I think it would be great to incorporate it.

[name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] would be so handsome!

[name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Marius[/name_m], or [name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] would be my next choices

Best of luck! I love all the names on her list, and you really can’t go wrong!

I just read about your wife, and I just wanted to say that she was a very strong woman en you are a very strong man! [name_f]My[/name_f] heart goes out to you and your family, and I wish you and your son all the warmth in the world.

[name_f]My[/name_f] personal favorite is [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] because it reminds me of a very kind, cheerful and funny childhood friend of mine. [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is darling since it’s similar to [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f]. I think [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is my first choice! Best of luck.

[name_f]My[/name_f] heart goes out to you and your family.

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote goes towards [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m].

It sounds like you both loved [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] and it fits your son well! If you say he looks like an [name_u]Oliver[/name_u], that’s where my vote goes.

[name_m]Anthony[/name_m] actually reminds me a bit of [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f], at least in my accent. Considering her devotion to [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] and the similarity to her name (as well as the medallion that will become your son’s), I like it as a middle name.

[name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] would also be nice!

It sounds like [name_m]Marius[/name_m], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] and [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] are the ones that both mean the most and appeal the most to you right now. I would concentrate on those three, and use either two or all of them in combination.

Two middle names are becoming more and more commonplace these days, and with so much personal meaning in all of these names, I think that would be a nice direction to go in if it’s something you’d consider.

Perhaps [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m]

[name_u]Oliver[/name_u] as your favourite option for a first name and the one that seems to fit your little guy the best. This also gives him his “own” first name, with the two personal significance-loaded honour names in the middle slot.

[name_m]Anthony[/name_m] and [name_m]Marius[/name_m] to honour your wife and to give your boy a special connection to his mum. I like the flow of these two both ways but, to me, [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] in that order really calls to mind [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] – in a meaningful but not-overwhelming way.

Such a handsome and well thought-out list – you really can’t go wrong. I’m so glad you’re feeling able and ready to make the change you feel is right.

All the very best :blue_heart:

So sorry for your loss! It sounds like [name_m]Marius[/name_m], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] and [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] are the most meaningful for you. I love [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] and [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Marius[/name_m].

I’m deeply sorry about the loss of your wife.

Marius & Anthony were immediately my favorites, but I think it’s incredibly sweet how both also honor her in different personal ways. Anthony Marius would be such a handsome combination as others have already pointed out. However, if he does look like an Oliver, then that’s very special in itself! I love the suggestion from @katinka of the double middle name, if that is something you’re interested in, it would be so charming.

My best wishes to you!

I’m really happy that you’ve made a decision concerning renaming your son and I’m sure whatever name you decide will be the right one for you & your family.

Personally my favourites for you are [name_m]Marius[/name_m], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] & [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] they are really meaningful and appear to tick all the right boxes.

I like @katinka idea of [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. This name uses all names that you feel connected too the most which to me is the way forward. [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] is a lovely name and I like that you feel your son is an [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] this to me is a good indicator that his first name should be [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]. [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] is a lovely tribute to your wife through the connection to the saint I think he works brilliantly sandwiched between [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] & [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. Finally I think [name_m]Marius[/name_m] rounds of the name beautifully I love that the name sounds like [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] and I think [name_m]Marius[/name_m] feels strong. Overall such a fab name! Also just to reassure don’t panic over the name being too long having two middles is fairly commonplace nowadays and he won’t be saying his full name all the time it’s relatively rare to use your middle names so don’t worry about that.

I think [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is lovely and if I was you I would choose this name. But I’m sure even if you decide not to use this one whatever name you do choose will be perfect.

Wishing you all the best :blue_heart:

I love the idea of [name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] or [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] for you. [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] is sweet too. I agree with the other posters saying maybe [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] would be nice. It honors his mom and also includes a name you both loved. All of the list is beautiful and I’m sure whatever name you pick will be the right one for your son.

[name_m]Marius[/name_m] is lovely!! [name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] would be a wonderful name

Thank you for trusting us to offer our feedback with this💙

[name_f]My[/name_f] thoughts:

  • Im going against previous posters about using [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]. That name is clearly already going to have a connection to your son and his mother with the medal he’ll be receiving. So I don’t necessarily see it as necessary to integrate into his actual name.

  • I actually love the idea of incorporating names that you can explain the significance of with those names you can’t. In my mind with those names (Emmett, [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] and Domino) I feel the significance of your wife picking it and liking it enough to stick on a short list is magnetized with the fact it can’t be explained.

  • Combo Suggestions:

  • [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] and [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] all seem to work. And my votes for them all seem to go in that order. [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_u]Domino[/name_u] seems a little “O” heavy. I feel [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] as a first gets my vote since you seem the most drawn to it in all your multiple reasons

  • You mentioned [name_m]Marius[/name_m] reminding you of your wife’s name. If that IS a big draw to you then I suggest considering [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. The “An” of [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] with the “Mari” of [name_m]Marius[/name_m] seems like a great connection to [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f].

  • with my above combos Inthink they also sound equally fine reversed

  • @katinka brings up a great suggestion if maybe considering a double middle. I’m usually not a fan but feel your situation would make it seem like an idea worth considering. I’d likely suggest [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] or [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] in that case

I hope this helps :blue_heart:

[name_f]My[/name_f] first thought would be [name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]. Both names seemed to be important to your wife, and you would be able to tell your son about the history of his name when he’s older. Also, the tie to his mom with [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f] and [name_m]Marius[/name_m] would be quite sweet and give him a piece of her to hold onto.

This would be another great choice.

I’m sorry for your loss. I think that [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] would be perfect for you, like some other people said. That way he has his own name, but his middles incorporate his mother. (Anthony [name_f]Mari[/name_f]us)

All are wonderful choices. To me, it sounds like [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] and [name_m]Marius[/name_m] are the names that have the greatest personal meaning and connection to your wife. I think it’s up to you to decide whether that’s a good thing, or something that may be a little too hard to handle right now, and that’s completely up to you and how you feel. You can’t go wrong, since your wife loved every name on that list.

Personally, my vote is for [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]. That way, you combine all that personal meaning with another name you both loved - especially since you feel he looks like an [name_u]Oliver[/name_u].

[name_f]My[/name_f] heart goes out to you and your family, and I wish you all the best.

I’m very sorry for your loss. Sending condolences to your family.

I think [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is very good. It seems to be you think [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] is already the best name for your son and it goes well with your surname, so you can’t go wrong with that. At the same time his middle names will be special and significant in a heartwarming way. I think that’s a very sweet connection between [name_m]Marius[/name_m] and [name_f]Annemarie[/name_f]. Technically the initials with the name are similar! If you’re not a fan of the double middle names thing, I think [name_m]Adriel[/name_m] [name_u]Domino[/name_u] and [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] sounds nice.

I definitely like [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] and [name_m]Adrian[/name_m] the best

I’m sorry to revive a topic that has stayed inactive for days, but I wanted to send another message of gratitude for your comments and care.

[name_m]Reading[/name_m] through this and my original topic gave me more confidence and put me at ease on changing our son’s name.

I’ve submitted the application to change his name, and it makes a lot of sense to me to call him by his name. I genuinely think that this would have been his name if my wife had made the final choice, as she should have.

His name is [name_m]Marius[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m].

I’ve arranged his baptism on the Feast of [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m].

Thank you once again for your understanding and help.
