Icelandic girl names!

I love international names now I’m on Iceland … I was wondering if one knew how to pronounce these Icelandic girl names

Elinros (w/dash over the i and o )

  • both aris and arin have dashes over the “I”

I would assume [name]Arin[/name] = [name]Erin[/name] and [name]Aris[/name] is like air-iss, but I can’t say for sure. I know Ylva is eel-vah.

Thanks ^^ I know the I w the dash makes the EE sound so maybe arin is air-REEN and aris air-EES

You might like Kolfinna, it’s really only used in Iceland.

[name]El[/name]ínrós - ehleen-roz
[name]Ellisif[/name] - ellie-see-w
Eylin - ey-linn
Yrsa - eer-sah
Ylva - eel-vah

I have no idea but I looked up Icelandic/Alphabet and Pronunciation on Wikibooks and omniglot.

Below would be guesses going by how the letters are pronounced.

[name]El[/name]ínrós - [name]Eleen[/name]-rós
[name]Ellisif[/name] - [name]Elle[/name]-e-sef
Eylin - Ey-lin
Yrsa - Ee-r-sa (think of a short rolling spanish r)
Ylva - Ill-va

I used to live in Iceland. The stress is always on the first syllable.

Elinros - EH-leen-rose
[name]Arin[/name] - [name]AH[/name]-reen
[name]Aris[/name] - [name]AH[/name]-rees
[name]Ellisif[/name] - [name]Ellie[/name] - siv
Eylin - EY-leen
Yrsa - EER-sah
Ylva - EEL-vah
