Ideas for brother to Winnimere

We are expecting a boy in Dec. We have a daughter named Winnimere [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] (we call her [name_m]Wim[/name_m]). Before she was born we had a name picked and now my husband thinks it will become too popular. All of our choices are almost there, but not sure. I like longer names with good nickname potential, and we obviously aren’t exactly traditional in our naming choices (Winnimere & [name_u]Michael[/name_u] just doesn’t work). So all wild and obscure names that you feel fit in out “zone” are welcome .

Here is our shortlist:
Bowyer [name_m]Eugenius[/name_m] ([name_m]Bowie[/name_m]–DH is worried about the popularity of [name_m]Bowen[/name_m] & [name_m]Bowie[/name_m])
[name_m]Denholm[/name_m] Stanely ([name_m]Holmes[/name_m])
[name_m]Whittaker[/name_m] Otter… ([name_u]Whit[/name_u] & [name_m]Wim[/name_m]–is that too cutesie matchie?)

I love her name! I also love [name_u]Whit[/name_u], but it is a little close to [name_m]Wim[/name_m] for me. I like Bowyer/[name_m]Bowie[/name_m], too, but not a fan of [name_m]Denholm[/name_m]/[name_m]Holmes[/name_m] personally.

From you current list I think [name_m]Denholm[/name_m] works great with sister Winnimere! Is [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] a family name?

I love [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m] “[name_u]Whit[/name_u]”! I actually think [name_u]Whit[/name_u] and [name_m]Wim[/name_m] are cute together; they’re only nicknames after all, and the full names would definitely be different enough.

I particularly like Valefor (pretty dark backstory, though), [name_m]Calloway[/name_m], Faraday, Finnobar, [name_m]Percival[/name_m] and [name_m]Lysander[/name_m] for you, of those suggested so far. You certainly need a magical name to go with the fabulous Winnimere [name_f]Ruth[/name_f]!

So I was looking through these- well, just the first page- and I feel like people are just throwing out the craziest names they can because of Winnimere’s uniqueness.

Faraday did stick out to me… but with the nickname [name_f]Fay[/name_f] or [name_u]Day[/name_u].

Out of your list, I like [name_m]Denholm[/name_m] most. Surname or place name type sounds go well with Winnimere, I think. Like [name_u]Sutton[/name_u] or [name_u]Chandler[/name_u]- or maybe that’s too plain for you…

What a clever way to honor your dad!

I was curious if [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] was a family name or if it was chosen as a straight laced middle to help anchor a more adventurous first name (much the way [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] helps ground Winnimere. I love honor middles.

First off, I must say, Winnimere is lovely, and I just adore the nickname of [name_m]Wim[/name_m]. I love it.

My vote would go to [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m] Otter as my favourite of the three, however, the two together are quite matchy, which while not a big deal, might get to you after a while, especially if questioning it now, beforehand.

I think something long, and classy yet still quite quirky would work well with both Winnimere & Otter (because I love that middle), like [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], [name_m]Seraphim[/name_m], [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m], Gwydion, [name_m]Casimir[/name_m], Emeric & [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m] (just from pulling names from my own long list).

I love your naming style, not one I’ve come across on nameberry yet! Very unique. [name_m]Wim[/name_m] / Winnimere is lovely!

I do like Bowyer, but agree [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] is too ‘trendy’ at the moment for your style. Although you have a ‘[name_u]Win[/name_u]’ name and have avoided the popular [name_f]Winnie[/name_f]. Could you do the same for Bowyer? Wyer perhaps?

[name_m]Denholm[/name_m] doesn’t feel enough next to Winnimere and [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m] feels too close that they almost wash each other out.

I love [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and Otter in middle spots.

Bowyer [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] from your choices is what I would go with.

Although some suggestions if I may:

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] - nn [name_m]Ross[/name_m], [name_f]Amber[/name_f], Brose.
I’ve always loved [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m], and it doesn’t sound particularly feminine with [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] in the middle. I don’t see it as feminine anyway, but I know that’s the problem for some.

[name_m]Gerrit[/name_m] Bowyer

[name_m]Halifax[/name_m] (feels slightly equestrian) love the nn [name_m]Hal[/name_m] but even better is nn Fax!

[name_m]Gulliver[/name_m] [name_u]Stanley[/name_u]
Looove this combo! nn [name_m]Iver[/name_m] or Gully… though I prefer [name_m]Iver[/name_m].

[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_m]Havelock[/name_m] I like with Winnimere, although I’m not 100% taken on these two.

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and Bowyer [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] I love!

Thanks everyone. We still aren’t quite there, but these are some great names. Please, keep 'em coming.

[name_f]Ruth[/name_f] is also an honor name for the woman who taught me to sew and craft. Bowyer is a bow maker and when DH and I took our first trip to my hometown, he and I went to an archery range (both of us for the first time), and loved it–he’s also a woodworker and if time would permit (ugh, we wish) he would make his own bows. [name_m]Denholm[/name_m] is for the actor [name_m]Denholm[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], who just had such great comedic timing. Otter is my daughter’s favorite toy, “[name_m]Guy[/name_m]” Otter–and I mean like the Velveteen Rabbit favorite; he could be loved into life. [name_m]Whittaker[/name_m] would get the nickname [name_u]Whit[/name_u] which is a possible way to honor [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m]. I left out the personal connections to get a barometer without sentiment (I don’t know, but I have a feeling that knowing the personal meanings might change opinions, and it isn’t like my kid will get to explain this all the time).

Would you use [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] as a first name?

NN: [name_f]Pru[/name_f] or [name_u]Whit[/name_u]

[name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] [name_u]Stanley[/name_u] and Winnmere [name_f]Ruth[/name_f] would make a great sibset

I love [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m]! I think Winnimere/[name_m]Wim[/name_m] & [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] go perfectly together, if you are open to using it as a first name.

From your other three, I like Bowyer best with [name_m]Wim[/name_m]. I personally like the full Bowyer better than [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] though and it’s really not any longer (they are both two syllables) so I wouldn’t even use a nickname. That way you don’t have to even worry about the [name_m]Bowie[/name_m] popularity. [name_m]Boyer[/name_m] is also another alternative that means “bow-maker” just fyi.

[name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] [name_u]Stanley[/name_u]!!! nn [name_f]Pru[/name_f]! I love this!

From your list, I like [name_m]Holmes[/name_m] the best with with Winnimere.

Archery/wood names:

[name_m]Silvano[/name_m] ([name_m]Ivo[/name_m])

[name_u]Yardley[/name_u]
[name_m]Calhoun[/name_m] ([name_u]Cal[/name_u])
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] ([name_u]Van[/name_u])

I would not use [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] as a first if you are in [name_u]America[/name_u]. Anyone paying the slightest bit of attention will immediately think of [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m]…

I did not make the [name_m]Scott[/name_m] [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] connection, but good call. I just feel [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] is more of a girl’s name.

While it’s typically regarded as a masc name, I could see it working on any gender, and I think I’m with you on preferring [name_m]Pruitt[/name_m] for a girl.

There is so much thoughtfulness going into your naming, I know you’ll find the right fit.
