Ideas for "Mil..." Names?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! I’m expecting my second girl. Big sis is [name_f]Annette[/name_f], and her middle name came from my husband’s family. I want something meaningful to my family, and I have an idea, but there’s a story behind it…
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother was born to Italian immigrants who named her [name_f]Milena[/name_f]. When she was 5, a cousin registered her for school and thought her name needed to be “Americanized,” so she became [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] on all her official documents. For most of her life, she just went by [name_f]Mil[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Milena[/name_f], but my husband is worried it’ll be confused with [name_f]Melania[/name_f] and we both agree it doesn’t really sounds right with sis [name_f]Annette[/name_f].
So, my idea is to pick something that could be shortened to [name_f]Mil[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. (But isn’t Mildred!)
[name_m]Can[/name_m] anyone help me with some [name_f]Mil[/name_f] name ideas?!? Thank you!!

It doesn’t start with [name_f]Mil[/name_f], but what about [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f], or [name_f]Emily[/name_f] with the nickname [name_f]Mil[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f]?

[name_f]Mila[/name_f] / [name_f]Milla[/name_f] / [name_f]Milah[/name_f]
[name_f]Milada[/name_f]
[name_f]Mileva[/name_f]
[name_f]Malena[/name_f]
[name_f]Malia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]
[name_u]Milan[/name_u] / [name_u]Milano[/name_u]
[name_f]Emelina[/name_f]

Straight up [name_f]Mil[/name_f] names:

[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Millie[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Milagros[/name_f]

Shortens to [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Mil[/name_f]:

[name_u]Romilly[/name_u]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Melinda[/name_f]

Milenka is a favorite of mine

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
[name_u]Camille[/name_u]
[name_f]Camillia[/name_f]

I second [name_u]Camille[/name_u] it pairs very nicely with [name_f]Annette[/name_f] and has a strong ‘mil’ sound without having any similarity to [name_f]Melania[/name_f]

Though personally just as a side note I don’t think [name_f]Milena[/name_f] would be confused for [name_f]Melania[/name_f] and think you would be fine using if you loved it, but I agree [name_f]Milena[/name_f] and [name_f]Annette[/name_f] aren’t quite stylistically speaking the perfect pair.

I looove Milena! I have a friend named this (who is French, and pronounces her name mih-LAY-nuh) and think it’s gorgeous. It’s never confused with Melania, but is frequently mispronounced as muh-LEE-nuh, that’s all.

Also love Millie, Mildred, Mila, Milla, and Emilia!

Some names that could have the nn “Mil”

[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Melina[/name_f]
[name_u]Romilly[/name_u]
[name_f]Marilla[/name_f]

[name_f]Miliana[/name_f] is similar to [name_f]Milena[/name_f], but I’m not sure if it goes with [name_f]Annette[/name_f]. I like the suggestions of [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] and [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] / [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]

I love the importance of a [name_f]Mil[/name_f] name and how it honours your heritage and family in a unique way!

[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_u]Milan[/name_u]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Milagros[/name_f]
[name_f]Miley[/name_f]
[name_u]Miller[/name_u]
Millett
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] (that maybe a stretch)
[name_f]Milou[/name_f]
[name_f]Milana[/name_f]
[name_f]Milcah[/name_f]

With big sister [name_f]Annette[/name_f] I am loving [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] and [name_f]Milou[/name_f]

So many great suggestions! Thank you all!! I’m really liking [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_u]Camille[/name_u] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I had been going back and forth on [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], but it feels so formal. Now that I see so many alternatives, I think we’ll be able to agree on something to give us a little [name_f]Mil[/name_f] or [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Now to see what my husband thinks…

Besides [name_f]Milena[/name_f] or even Mildred/Millicent, what about:

Amelia/Amelie (had a very dear friend named [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] nn Millie–I think this works great! And [name_f]Annette[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] makes a very sweet [name_u]French[/name_u] sibset!)
[name_u]Miller[/name_u] (if you want to go the unisex route)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
Milou/Malou (Annette and [name_f]Milou[/name_f] is sweet, but [name_f]Malou[/name_f] is already quite cutesy/nicknamey in [name_f]France[/name_f] so I don’t know that I’d do [name_f]Malou[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f], personally, but it could work!)
[name_f]Melisande[/name_f] (old [name_u]French[/name_u] form of [name_f]Millicent[/name_f], I think… could definitely be nn Millie!)
[name_f]Melissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (or Emilia/Emilie, or even [name_f]Emmanuelle[/name_f] as a stretch?)

Also LOVE [name_f]Mileva[/name_f], [name_f]Camila[/name_f], [name_f]Marilla[/name_f], and [name_u]Romilly[/name_u], which totally slipped my mind… echoing these!

Good luck!

I love [name_f]Milena[/name_f]! I associate it with [name_f]Mila[/name_f] Kunis and never even thought of [name_f]Melania[/name_f].

Can’t think of any more [name_f]Mil[/name_f] names that haven’t been mentioned, so I’m just gonna second [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_u]Camille[/name_u], [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] and [name_f]Emiliana[/name_f].

[name_f]Milena[/name_f] a is great. Another option could be [name_f]Milzie[/name_f].

FYI [name_f]Melania[/name_f] did not even enter my mind.

[name_f]Milena[/name_f] doesn’t make me think of [name_f]Melania[/name_f] either.

I don’t know if you would care for an uncommon word name, but if so, Millenia?

Milena
Romilly
Millicent
Melisande
Camilla

A name that I love and actually have on my list is Milène💕
