I’m looking to add to some more potential first names to my girl list. I like many of the names nb calls “badass princess” or “bohemian”. My taste isn’t super classic but I do like some old-fashioned names in addition to “new age” ones.
Girly but not all frills. A little bit fancy without being pretentious. Cool without being too try hard. Something you could see on a colorful fictional character as well as a real person.
The one name I cannot shake is [name_f]Corinna[/name_f]. I pronounce it core-ree-nuh and prefer this spelling, though it’s not absolute. I named one of my dolls [name_f]Corinna[/name_f] as a young child, I have it on video where I say I am her mommy. It’s very special to me.
My favorite combo right now is [name_f]Corinna[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f] nn [name_f]Coco[/name_f].
I have been considering what might make a nice sister if I were to someday go with that. Here’s what I have:
The names ideally have a pleasant diminutive to use at home but are usable full-time. My favorites right now are [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]/[name_f]Arielle[/name_f] nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u] and [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Dolly[/name_f]. I have been liking [name_f]Arielle[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] nn [name_u]Ari[/name_u].
If you have any fn suggestions for me that would be awesome. I’m definitely open to names more out there and unusual than these, trying to expand my horizons a bit.
I like [name_f]Corinna[/name_f] too. I’d probably spell it [name_f]Corina[/name_f] to get to your pronunciation but I can see how double n appeals. I think [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], [name_f]Esme[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] go especially well.
Other names that I think go with it (to add to cracking list above - eg [name_f]Demelza[/name_f] and [name_f]Merida[/name_f]):
I appreciate all the suggestions everyone! And the kind words.
@katinka I don’t know why I’ve never considered [name_f]Merida[/name_f] before. Its uncomplicated yet regal, and I’m a Disney fan so that connection is okay. I’m unfamiliar with Maristela but I think it’s quite interesting. I just wish the “st” sound rolled off my tongue better.
@eloiset I’ve been toying with [name_f]Anneka[/name_f]/[name_f]Annika[/name_f] a bit. I like its familiar, yet fresh feeling. [name_f]Brisa[/name_f] I’m not as familiar with but also has that going for it. [name_f]Demelza[/name_f] is cool, isn’t it?
@cchgi I quite like [name_f]Callisto[/name_f]/[name_f]Callista[/name_f] and would probably have them on my list if [name_u]Cal[/name_u]/[name_u]Cali[/name_u] didn’t rhyme with my name. [name_f]Verona[/name_f] is intriguing, I just wish I had an easier time with V as the first letter. Unfortunately a lot of great names are just a little too awkward for me to say aloud.
