Idris and Emrys

What are your thoughts on these two names? Which one do you prefer?

I love [name_m]Idris[/name_m]!! I just love the sound of it. Plus I love that you can get [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] as a nickname. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is not my style. It’s too old fashioned for my taste.

For a boy I prefer [name_m]Idris[/name_m] - I like the Welsh history & meaning. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] sounds more feminine to me - I think it reminds me of the female name [name_f]Amaris[/name_f].?

I honestly thought they were two old lady names at first! I was going to comment that [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] sounds okay without [name_m]Idris[/name_m].

However now they are boys names I guess [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is okay, but I dont like [name_m]Idris[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] better but I think that is because i’m more familiar with “em” names. He would fit right in with [name_u]Emery[/name_u], [name_u]Emerson[/name_u], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], etc…

[name_m]Idris[/name_m] is nice but I think pronunciation could be an issue at first glance. “Id-riss” or “eed-riss” or “eye- driss”? “Id-riss” would be my first instinct.

I like both, but [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is my favorite.

I like [name_m]Idris[/name_m]. In arabic, it is pronounced ee-drees and is a prophet in Islam usually associated with the Biblical [name_m]Enoch[/name_m]. [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] sounds feminine to me probably bc I know a few little girls named [name_u]Emery[/name_u]

I really like [name_m]Idris[/name_m], but I absolutely adore [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. I personally think it’s the best name ever! It’s been my favorite name for many years now.

I prefer [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] by a mile!

I really like both! They are unusual, but strong, and both have a lovely sound. Idris makes me think of the actor Idris Elba.

I’m more familiar with Emrys, since I went to school with a boy with this name, and I also know the name from the TV series Merlin. I think it’s considered a bit of an old man name in Wales at the moment, but that definitely wouldn’t stop me using it. I adore it as a strong, flowing name with a history behind it.

I love [name_m]Emrys[/name_m]. One of my favorites. Though they are somewhat similar, I’ve never really like [name_m]Idris[/name_m], I think it’s just awkward for me to say for some reason. Plus I love the meaning of [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] more.

Amazing names. [name_u]Love[/name_u] them both equally.

Really nice names; very complimentary without being too matchy. Both make me think of something a little mythical.
