I am looking for names that may have natural/traditional y('s) in their spelling. I was going to use nameberries search engine, but it has 8,000+ names and too many creative spellings. Plus, they may not have some names listed, that Berries might be able to suggest. I am looking for all genres of names, just as long as it has a natural y.
**Not sure if I want to add names that have an acceptable y, but if you want to suggestion, you are more than welcome too. Can you please just let me know which name.
What I am looking for:
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] = yes
[name_f]Melody[/name_f] = yes
What I am not looking for:
Junyper = no
Olyvya = no
My list is surprisingly short:
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u]
[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Bryony[/name_f]
Chrysanthe
[name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]
[name_u]Courtney[/name_u]
[name_f]Cynthia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elysia[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_u]Kelsey[/name_u]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Melody[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Yasmine[/name_f]
[name_f]Yolanda[/name_f]
[name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f] to Zakiya, all legit, but some fairly obscure. None copy yours but some copy other PP’s I think, and some I haven’t seen in the thread.
The author of the You Can’t Call It It blog has the same thinking as you. Check out her list of “7 Deadly Trends.” youcantcallitit.com - youcantcallitit Resources and Information. The 6th trend is “substytuting” Y’s, so she suggests several names there with a “natural y.”
Hmm, I can’t think of any that haven’t been suggested already. But one suggestion for using the search feature is to search for names that either begin or end in y. Those are almost always going to be natural, yes?
Many Many Thanks to: spiderweb | rkrd | stripedsocks | ottilie !!! I appreciate the time you took out to help me. There are some really beautiful names listed.
anniecl : Thank you, I visited her site and added a few that I did not have. My family (sisters) is a victim of that sin, lol. I have 6 nieces that have yooneek spellings, mostly because of the substituting Y’s (five of them). I wanted to see how many natural y names was out there just for fun. I am burned out on seeing some names get changed to fit that trend. Yet, still mild compared to some of the other trend that substitute and add letters.
rmclay: I have tried that too, but there are a lot of yooneek spellings and became dizzy trying to sort out the ones that may actually be legit. Plus, some of them, I was unsure of.
I am working on a list for nameberry, once I get a few more, I will make it public. Hopefully, it will be useful to at least one person.
Natural Y names so far:
You’ve had a lot of suggestions, but ones that I’ve not seen on others lists are:
[name_f]Beryl[/name_f]
[name_f]Cerys[/name_f]
[name_f]Meryl[/name_f]
Sylvanie (I just read this in [name_u]Les[/name_u] Miserables, so it’s definitely not a new name!)
ETA: I thought of a few more, though I’m not sure if they’re applicable or if you were mostly wanting English-origin names:
Inaya
Mayim
Nayana
Yael
