If we like Isla, what might we also like?

We are having trouble naming our 4th baby. We’ve been thinking about some combo of the name [name]Isla[/name] [name]Cosette[/name] or [name]Colombe[/name]. We love [name]Isla[/name] but I am very hesitant about its projected popularity. Does anyone have other suggestions that have the [name]Isla[/name] feel but are more under-the-radar? With [name]Cosette[/name] or [name]Colombe[/name] also being more rare, [name]Do[/name] you think we should stick to something that’s more recognizable & not have 2 rare names? Or just go for it?

I think [name]Isla[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]/ [name]Isla[/name] [name]Colombe[/name] is just fine. It’s pretty, and it’s getting more popular (but not too popular). If you love it, I would definitely use it. [name]Isla[/name]'s a really pretty, feminine name. However, you might like:

[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Jillian[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Scarlett[/name]

I think [name]Isla[/name] [name]Cosette[/name] is very pretty, but if you’re looking for something a little rarer…

to me names that have the same feel as [name]Isla[/name] could be…

[name]Ayla[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Hazel[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Ida[/name]
[name]Aria[/name]
[name]Ariel[/name]
[name]Eira[/name] (prn. Ay-ruh or Eye-ruh)
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Clea[/name]
[name]Faline[/name]
[name]Hala[/name]
[name]Isaline[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Shia[/name]
[name]Shiloh[/name]
[name]Silvie[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]

Good [name]Luck[/name]!!

[name]Isla[/name] is feminine, short, and light (since it’s vowelly and uses lighter consonants). I think [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Iris[/name], and [name]Scarlett[/name] are in the right direction. For more under-the-radar options, what about:

[name]Cecily[/name], [name]Cecile[/name], or [name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Ayla[/name]
[name]Ione[/name] or [name]Iona[/name]
[name]Anwen[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name]
Esmé
[name]Stella[/name] or [name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Celia[/name]
[name]Vera[/name]
[name]Zara[/name] or [name]Zora[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Wynn[/name] or [name]Gwen[/name] (perhaps from [name]Gwendolyn[/name])
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Greta[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Elyse[/name] or [name]Elise[/name]
[name]Lillia[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name] or [name]Briony[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Jessamy[/name] or [name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Viola[/name]

[name]Aili[/name] (Eye-lee)
[name]Aileen[/name]/[name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Ida[/name]
[name]Ada[/name]

I love the name [name]Isla[/name]! I think that if you really love it you should use it, no matter how popular it might be one day.
Personally I’m not a huge fan of [name]Cosette[/name] or [name]Colombe[/name], but they are nice enough and work well with [name]Isla[/name]. I say if there are two so-called rare names that you enjoy, then use them! It’s about what you love, not what anyone else might think.

A couple other names I like that have a similar feel to [name]Isla[/name]:
[name]Mila[/name] (love this one!)
[name]Luna[/name] (favorite!)
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Lilah[/name]
[name]Ayla[/name]
[name]Elena[/name]
[name]Irie[/name] (pr. eye-ree)
[name]Ari[/name]
[name]Aria[/name]/[name]Arya[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name]
[name]Aura[/name]

Good luck with your decision! [name]Hope[/name] all goes well for you!

What about the lovely irish [name]Eilish[/name]? Or Aylish? I think both are gorgeous!

[name]Wilma[/name]? I have known a couple of [name]Wilma[/name]'s (one a much predicted older doddery woman and the other young and dynamic nurse!) and the name is quite beautiful I think. To me it has more substance than [name]Willa[/name] and even though my immediate thought was ‘old lady’ i have now started to assosiate it with a warm pleasant person! [name]Isla[/name] is sweet though and I love both the combinations you put forward, i think it will be hard to find a name you like just as much!

I agree with [name]Willa[/name].

more suggestions (if there are any repeats, i’m sorry!!!):

[name]Iona[/name]/[name]Ione[/name]
[name]Aileen[/name]/[name]Eileen[/name]
[name]Moira[/name]
[name]Ailis[/name]
[name]Fiona[/name]
[name]Dara[/name]
[name]Blaire[/name]
[name]Deirdre[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Shea[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Fallon[/name]
[name]Greer[/name]

[name]Isla[/name] is already really really popular here (Australia) but it’s a nice name. The silent s will get destroyed sometimes though.

[name]Ivy[/name] - Already mentioned, probably not unpopular enough for you, but pretty and straight-forward as far as spelling.

Izarra - Basque word meaning “star” and a guilty pleasure of mine.

[name]Ismay[/name]

[name]Isolde[/name], [name]Iseult[/name], Izolda - All variations of the [name]Isolde[/name] of Celtic/Arthurian legend. Pronunciations are the issue here, because its been used across many languages.

[name]Zelda[/name], [name]Zella[/name] - Known, but uncommon, phonetic but rare. Takes the common (but pretty) “ella” sound in a different direction.

[name]Iola[/name] - Nameberry says its terribly outdated, but I think it’s sound and meaning are both pretty. It is not likely to follow [name]Isla[/name] up the charts, which may be some comfort.

[name]Yael[/name] - [name]Little[/name]-used Biblical gem with a similar vowel-y feel as [name]Isla[/name].

[name]Ayelet[/name] - pronounced eye-YELL-it. A-names are very, very popular for girls and many are climbing, so when trying to avoid trends I mostly avoid them, (though I like some when I put popularity concerns aside) but [name]Ayelet[/name] is probably NOT going popular places. But it’s pretty, with nice meanings, and not too hard to say.

Thank you everyone for those suggestions & comments! Lots of great ones to mull over. I have decided that being pregnant has got to be the worst time to have to make a decision like naming a baby - so indecisive! And now that everyone is so socially networked you hear about every baby born named with names you have liked. Hard to feel like anything is special anymore. Names are faces in the virtual world, so there’s added pressure that a person will likely be known by name without having a personality or face associated.

[name]Isla[/name] [name]Cosette[/name] is darling!!! [name]Isla[/name] is a name I have liked. I agree with some of the other suggestions:
[name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Mila[/name]
[name]Lyra[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Dahlia[/name]

Ps I have a friend who’s daughter is [name]Cosette[/name] and they call her [name]Coco[/name] which is just too precious :). Good luck

[name]Alohi[/name]
[name]Maire[/name]
[name]Nola[/name]
[name]Mirra[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]/[name]Eloisa[/name]
[name]Oona[/name]/[name]Una[/name]
[name]Ada[/name]
[name]Vivia[/name]
[name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name]
[name]Delia[/name]

My baby cousin’s name is [name]Isla[/name] [name]Beatrice[/name] and I think that name is absolutely adorable. I don’t know if you would like that name but here are some more suggestions:
[name]Luna[/name]-short and cute like [name]Isla[/name]
[name]Mona[/name]- also short and I think it’s a strong name
[name]Wren[/name]
[name]Aoife[/name]-very Irish name and pronounced ee-fa ([name]Isla[/name] is Scottish)
[name]Talia[/name]- I am obsessed with this name!
[name]Aylin[/name]-this name is pretty! You could also use [name]Aileen[/name].
[name]Leah[/name]-My baby cousin was just named [name]Leah[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] on 11/2 and I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Leah[/name].
[name]Briar[/name]- different
[name]Bliss[/name]- word name that is growing on me!
I hope I helped!!

Great suggestions so far!! I would like to add [name]Isobel[/name] and [name]Imani[/name].

[name]Isla[/name] is lovely, especially those combos  I just thought I’d suggest lila and lilac

I love [name]Isla[/name] [name]Cosette[/name], it is so pretty! The only name I think of that hasn’t been suggested yet is [name]Enya[/name]. Good luck! =]

I too love [name]Isla[/name]! I also love [name]Luna[/name], [name]Esme[/name] (beloved), and [name]Stella[/name]. Good luck!

[name]Willa[/name]

My mother’s name is [name]Ila[/name]. No silent “s” to deal with, and I believe that [name]Ila[/name] is actually a biblical name.
