We had, in our opinion, the perfect name picked out for our daughter, [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. But a few days ago, my sister and her husband announced they will be naming their daughter [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] [name_u]Kris[/name_u]. I can’t be mad at her since we didn’t “call” [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but we can’t find anything else we love!
[name_f]Maria[/name_f] has to stay as the middle name (for family reasons) but do you have any first name suggestions? The name cannot end with A or N. Please make sure your names do not end with either of those letters (especially A). Maria is not changing to Marie, so please do not suggest that. It is staying as Maria and only as Maria; sorry to seem harsh, however many have said to do so and we are not open to that in any way at all.
If you find a name that doesn’t flow with [name_f]Maria[/name_f], you could always use [name_f]Marie[/name_f]. It will still honor the same person, only in a bit different way (if that’s what you’re doing.)
I’m so sorry to hear that! What a shame–it is a lovely name. Names that have a similar “feel” to them for me as [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] are:
[name_f]Lola[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_u]Ainsley[/name_u]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Suzannah[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]
[name_f]Annabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mirabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
A similar thing happened to my best friend. Her and her husband announced they were naming their daughter [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] [name_u]Addison[/name_u]. After they announced her brother and his wife said they picked out [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], but were waiting to tell everyone. Sadly her brother and his wife were angry about it. I know it’s a disappointment, but at least you have a good out look on it.
I immediately thought of [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], mainly due to the ope sound.
Here are some other names that have the same feel as [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. Well at least to me:
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]/[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
Poline/[name_f]Polina[/name_f]
[name_f]Dahlia[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]- although it doesn’t sound great with [name_f]Maria[/name_f]. Perhaps [name_f]Thea[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Cliona[/name_f]/[name_f]Cleona[/name_f]- nn [name_f]Clio[/name_f]/[name_f]Cleo[/name_f]
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Pomeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Patricia[/name_f]- nn [name_f]Tricia[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f]
Oh that’s terrible! I’m sorry. We love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] too and [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is our middle no matter what we choose for a first. I feel like the best suggestions have been made already. Good luck!
We like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] is also very sweet but as we asked for, we do not want names ending with A; [name_f]Maria[/name_f] will not change no matter what and we do not like names ending with A with [name_f]Maria[/name_f]
We are bummed however my sister means more to me than a name. Unless she can read minds (and I didn’t know), she had no idea that we had decided on it so I don’t really have anything to be mad at her about
We like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] is also pretty, however [name_f]Maria[/name_f] is not changing at all, no matter what. We aren’t too worried about finding a name to flow with [name_f]Maria[/name_f], we did once with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] so we both think there will be another. Using [name_f]Marie[/name_f] is not an option for us; it has to be (and will be) [name_f]Maria[/name_f].
We like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], and [name_f]Alice[/name_f] are all really cute too but they plan on using [name_u]Penny[/name_u] & [name_f]Lola[/name_f] as a nickname for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] (and [name_f]Lola[/name_f] ends with an A which is a no for us) and [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] & [name_f]Alice[/name_f] run into our last name. They both have a strong S sound at the end and our last name beings with S so it sounds weird when said together
If I were you I would dig around your family tree, when my top name got nixed I was able to find another I loved only because I went back to my family tree. For ex if both your fathers shared the middle [name_m]Albert[/name_m] which means noble, bright, then you could search for a girls name that means bright. Once you’ve got a name that honours something special you fall in love with it!
Due to the fact that they didn’t know that we were going to use [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] before announcing, I don’t really have a reason to be mad at them. Also, like I said before, my sister is more important to me than a name.
You have a lot of really nice ideas, like [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Dahlia[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], but we asked specifically for NO names ending with A and almost all of yours do. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] is not changing so please keep the suggestions to names not ending with A. Thank you!
Hmm I’m gonna take another stab at this since you don’t seem to have gotten a lot of new options from previous suggestions.
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilde[/name_f] (no A sound at the end)
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] (lots of nickname options with this, like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f])
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
[name_u]Delaney[/name_u]
[name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gwendolyn[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwenyth[/name_f]/[name_f]Gwen[/name_f]
[name_f]Coraline[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]
[name_f]Odette[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxanne[/name_f]
