If You Had To Rename Yourself

What name would you choose for yourself and why?

[name_f][/name_f]

I’d be [name_f]Alma[/name_f]. It’s very similar to my actual name [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], but more vintage and gentle sounding. [name_f]Alma[/name_f] means nurturing soul, and ever since I was a kid that’s all I have loved to do [name_f][/name_f]- playing baby dolls, teaching my stuffed animals all my homework for fun, babysitting the younger kids, being a teachers assistant, working in animal care my entire young adult career, and finally having my own husband and children to care for who I will eventually homeschool.

I would prefer to go by my middle name, [name_f]Róisín[/name_f]. I’ve never liked my first name [name_f]Melissa[/name_f] at all, never connected to it.. when people call me [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], I think I’m in trouble, I also really don’t like any nicknames for [name_f]Melissa[/name_f], a.k.a. [name_m]Mel[/name_m], [name_f]Missy[/name_f], [name_f]Melly[/name_f], etc.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Róisín[/name_f] is [name_m]Irish[/name_m], like I am, the only reason my parents didn’t name me [name_f]Róisín[/name_f] originally is because it “didn’t go with” my older sister’s name, and we don’t have a relationship at all.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Róisín[/name_f] (“Row-sheen”) means ‘little Rose’ and I have red hair which I think is a cool correlation. The nickname Róise (“Row-sha”) is spunky and I think captures my personality more than [name_f]Melissa[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

I’d name myself [name_f]Róisín[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Nora[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- my middle name, my mum’s middle name an my grandmother’s name.

That’s a gorgeous name!:heart_eyes::heart_eyes:[name_f][/name_f] I can see why you like it a lot more than your actual first

I’d be [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], which means compassionate friend because that is what I aspire to be.

I did (sort of) rename myself! [name_f]My[/name_f] birth name is Silia (short for Vasilia) and while I like the name for others it never felt correct as my[name_f][/name_f] name? Something about how soft and sleek the sound is never clicked with me. So I went for [name_f]Maya[/name_f] as my chosen name, I love an M name (they feel really warm and cosy!) and I like how international it is + the sunny vibe!

[name_f][/name_f]

If I were to rename myself again I think I’d choose Ioli – another name with a really sunny feel to me. I like the sound, nicknames (Io or Lolly) and the connection to my culture via mythology!

Names I think would properly suit me that I like: [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_f]Cait[/name_f], [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f], [name_m]Gwyn[/name_m], [name_f]Marin[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] (my given name is J3nna)

[name_f][/name_f]

If I could pick regardless of if it fits me or not/associations/etc etc I would choose [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f][name_f][/name_f] "Tally"

I chose [name_f]Mayim[/name_f] for myself when I joined nameberry, but today I would pick [name_f]Duniya[/name_f]. I’ll occasionally come across a name that I love because it feels like my[name_f][/name_f] name, and [name_f]Duniya[/name_f] is one of those names. It’s very similar in sound to my irl name (three syllables and starts a with D), and has basically my favorite meaning of all time, “this world”. I’ve begun to use [name_f]Duniya[/name_f] as a pen name, that’s how much I love it!! I also write using the name [name_m]Mayura[/name_m] sometimes, and I wouldn’t be bummed about that being my name either

Someone once told me I looked like my name was [name_f]Glory[/name_f][name_f][/name_f], which was such a compliment!![name_f][/name_f] Not sure if I could rename myself that without it seeming very narcissistic, but I do think it would fit me well!!

I’d love to be [name_f]Clare[/name_f][name_f][/name_f]! I’ve only good associations with the name, and I just think it’s beautiful. Although she is on my lists, she feels more like my name than my child’s name, so it seems like [name_f]Clare[/name_f] will likely remain unused for me

[name_f]Jana[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f] to honor both my grandmothers and to keep with the unofficial “J” theme my maternal side has.

If I had to rename myself (I’ve given this a surprising amount of thought)… I think I’d go with [name_f]Louise[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] parents call me “Lu” half the time anyway, so the nickname could stay, it sounds good with my last name, everyone’s heard of it but it’s uncommon enough I’ve never met one, it’s obviously a girl’s name without being frilly (I like frilly, but not for myself. I’m just not that girly.), and it has a strong meaning. I just think it’d work well for me.

I don’t know that I have one specific answer, I considered changing my name for years and there’s several styles that I’ve considered over the years, but here’s my top 10 for today that I would’ve loved having over my own name:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Adeline[/name_f] “Della”
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Brynn[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Maria[/name_f] or [name_f]Maris[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Nadia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Violet[/name_f] nn [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

Some because of their meanings, some because of how they feel, some because of their family connections. [name_f][/name_f] If I ever do change my name, it’ll probably be just to change my middles to [name_m]Ashley[/name_m] [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] or [name_m]Ashley[/name_m] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. [name_f][/name_f] I really wish my parents had given me my grandma’s middle, so I’d give it to myself haha.

If I had to rename myself, I would make my nickname my legal name. I like my full name but most people know me by [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] so it confuses them once they know that legally I am [name_f]Mercedes[/name_f]. Unfortunately (since I like my middle name), my middle name doesn’t flow as nicely between my nickname and last name as it does between my first and last so I might go for something like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] (after my grandmother), [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Gem[/name_f] (after my mom) or [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (after my other grandmother). At the moment, I’m leaning toward [name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f].

I think I could make a very good [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or an [name_f]Anna[/name_f]!

It’s been [name_f]Nell[/name_f] for a while [name_f][/name_f]- from my middle [name_f][/name_f]- and because it links to a fave book and I just like the warm but sparky sound of it. [name_f][/name_f] But then I learned there’s a [name_f]Nell[/name_f] on my (recent-ish) family tree so not sure on that idea now.

[name_f][/name_f]

So… now I don’t know!

[name_f][/name_f]

I’m thinking [name_f]Blue[/name_f] today [name_f][/name_f]- it’s always been in the back on my mind. The sound appeals [name_f][/name_f]- reminds me of the sea and winter.

I like my name but if I had to rename myself right now I would choose [name_f]Fenna[/name_f].

[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] was a name my mom strongly considered when naming me, though my dad vetoed it, and I always thought I’d love to be a [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. There’s so many nickname options that the name could’ve grown & changed with me – which I love!
