We are considering this for our second daughter, sister to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Obviously, like any name, some people will love it and some people will hate it, but I am wondering how it would truly go over with most people. I have never met a little [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] and I think my first thought would be “how refreshing!” I wish I could be strong enough to say, “I like it and don’t care what people think” but the truth is I’ll be crushed if family/strangers consistently have bad reactions to her name.
Dh likes [name_f]Suzie[/name_f] for a nickname - I also like it, but like [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] better. So your thoughts on the nicknames would be helpful too!
I grew up with a [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] (a pretty, strong, quiet girl) and have an aunt by marriage with the name (a little stuck up and spoiled). I think it’s a very sweet, spunky but also demure name, that feels fairly…safe…in regard to people’s reactions. What I mean is that it doesn’t strike me as a particularly polarizing name. You’ll get people who adore it and you’ll get people who like it and you’ll get people who are neutral but I don’t think you’re going to get “ugh what an ugly awful name”. I’m in the neutral category. I picture a little girl who has a lot of character, who is helpful and kind, cheery. I do think it’s quite familiar due to the song “Oh [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]” which gives it a country-vibe, but not overly so (and I don’t think that’s a bad thing). The nickname [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is fun and refreshing. [name_u]Love[/name_u] love [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
I love the name [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! It’s classic, timeless, girly, strong… it’ll fit right in with names like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], etc. without being so overused.
I like [name_f]Suzie[/name_f] and [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Suzie[/name_f] is a more diverse nickname and can be used all over…school, friends, family, doctor’s office, etc. but [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is more of a special nickname like from mom, dad, siblings, grandparents, close friends, people who just spend a lot of time around her. I think you could probably get away with using both and just letting her gravitate towards what she likes as she gets older.
I like the name [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! It’s a fun, spunky, feminine and strong name. If I met a little [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], I’d tell her how much I liked her name! [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is a cute nn as well as [name_f]Susie[/name_f] (I like this spelling since there are no z’s in the full name). You could also do [name_f]Suse[/name_f], [name_f]Sookie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sukie[/name_f], [name_f]Sanna[/name_f] as nns. I say use it!
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], I wish I could use it! Unfortunately… my husband has a crazy aunt named [name_f]Susanne[/name_f] and a crazy cousin named [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] so he wont consider it.
I knew the cutest little girl named [name_f]Susie[/name_f] ([name_f]Susannah[/name_f]) who was super sweet. I really adore the nn [name_f]Susie[/name_f] but [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is cute and spunky too.
Anyway, I think [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] is refreshing an a baby/child and goes really well with sister [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f].
A good friend/neighbor growing up was [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]/[name_f]Suzy[/name_f]/now “Suz” so I only have positive associations. She did get a bit of “Oh [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]! Oh don’t you cry for me!” now and then but I don’t think it ever bothered her. Anyway, everybody got something obnoxious for their name.
I like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], I prefer it over [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] which always sounds so Biblical and overly stuffy to me. It’d indeed by refreshing to see it on a little one. And I really love [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] for a nickname, it’s so spunky!
gorgeous! I would say its refreshing but classic not not likely to become trendy.
If I met you on the street I would think ‘yes, she could be my friend, inspired name choices’
do you have middle options so I can swoon some more?
I knew one little girl named [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]. She was sweet and adorable. Her name was neutral for me. I didn’t (and don’t) dislike it, but I didn’t love it. It creates no strong emotion for me in either direction. It’s just sort of there. I remember little [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] for reasons other then her name. That can be a positive or not so much so, depending on what you are looking for. I also knew a [name_f]Susanne[/name_f], an adult who was well loved–and bold, brash and bangled. A fiery, creative, tumultuous personage. I do very much like the nickname [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], which is reminding me of the golden curls and sweetly plucky little girl on It’s a Wonderful Life.
I have never met a [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]. I have known many [name_f]Susan[/name_f]'s (mostly in their 40’s) and one [name_f]Suzanne[/name_f] (also in her 40’s) but that’s it. I like it. I don’t love it. But I agree it is not polarizing and I doubt you will get much negative reaction. I don’t care for [name_f]Susie[/name_f] or any of it’s various spellings. [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] or Zu or [name_f]Zanna[/name_f] or anything that plays off the Z sound is much better.
I love it, but I do have a soft spot for the name thanks to [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] [name_m]Kaysen[/name_m]. I have to say, though, I think I prefer the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling that tad bit more but the sound of it is so refreshing. To me, it’s a good, sturdy name and the combo [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] is stunning! For nicknames, I love the simple [name_f]Susie[/name_f] but [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is quirky and I think I could learn to love that if I ever saw the nickname used on a little girl.
I have a cousin whose daughter’s name is [name_f]Suzanna[/name_f], and she’s often called [name_f]Suzi[/name_f]. I didn’t like the name much at first, but after associating it with this charming, feisty, yet ultra-feminine, little redhead (who was my flower girl at my wedding a few years ago, btw) I absolutely adore it! Now, I think it’s the perfect blend between fresh and serious. I know I’m in the minority here, but I don’t particularly care for [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]. Then again, I think all those repeating syllable names are a little over-the-top cutesy … [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_u]JoJo[/name_u], [name_f]Kiki[/name_f], yuck!
I’m kind of “eh” about the name. I really don’t like [name_f]Sue[/name_f] or [name_f]Susie[/name_f]/[name_f]Suzie[/name_f] as a nickname, as they’re really dated in my opinion. [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is cute, but I don’t see that aging well. If you chose from the second half of the name as a nickname, that’d probably change my opinion slightly. I also don’t love it next to [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]. Ultimately, I see the charm that it has, I just get hung up on the [name_f]Sue[/name_f]/[name_f]Susie[/name_f] aspect of the name.
I’m drawn to [name_f]Anna[/name_f] names ([name_f]Annabelle[/name_f], [name_f]Hannah[/name_f], [name_f]Sienna[/name_f]) and I really like the name [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! I don’t care for the nickname [name_f]Sue[/name_f], but [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] is really cool. You could also call her [name_f]Anna[/name_f] or [name_f]Annie[/name_f]. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! I slightly prefer the [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] spelling, though.
I’m actually surprised that you were bold enough to use [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] but are balking at [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]! I love both names. And [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] enhances my love for [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] as I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Sue[/name_f] or [name_f]Susie[/name_f]. Go for it!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] it! This is our top contender for our little girl due in [name_f]July[/name_f]. [name_f]Sue[/name_f] is my middle name, and also my [name_f]MIL[/name_f]'s middle name. My mom’s middle is [name_f]Ann[/name_f]. We think this is a great connection for her to have with family and we love that the name is familiar but still outside the top 1,000 names in the U.S. We plan to spell it [name_f]Susannah[/name_f] and also use the nickname [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f]. I like that she’ll have so many nickname options as she grows - [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f], [name_f]Susie[/name_f], [name_f]Sanna[/name_f], [name_f]Zanna[/name_f], [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_f]Sukie[/name_f], [name_u]Sunny[/name_u], etc.
I obviously think it is a wonderful choice! Have you picked a middle name? We’re a little stuck on that since we’re already honoring family with her first name.
