I always knew my mother in-law’s grandma was [name_f]Gladys[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], but I had assumed it was spelled the traditional way. I just discovered it was [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] and she went by it instead of [name_f]Gladys[/name_f]. [name_f]Kind[/name_f] of makes me love the name more. For some reason I’m not a big fan of the -een spelling in any name. Anywho, thoughts on [name_f]Ilene[/name_f]?

[name_f]Ilene[/name_f] looks like [name_f]Irene[/name_f] but with an l. I personally don’t love how the capital I then lowercase l look beside each other - reminds me of llama, like two Ls, but I like that this spelling has special meaning for you, and I agree I prefer the “ene” ending to “een”.
Another spelling variation of [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] is [name_f]Aileen[/name_f].

I like it. I’m not sure I’ve noticed this spelling before but it looks like it’s been in long use. [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] definitely feels like the sleek and chic sister to the more clunky, retro [name_f]Eileen[/name_f].
For me it has a European feel and a slight fantasy edge. Reminds me of liquid names like [name_f]Selene[/name_f], [name_f]Idony[/name_f], [name_f]Linnea[/name_f], [name_f]Sirene[/name_f].
I am with you on preferring ‘ene’ to ‘een’ generally. I think [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] also suits your naming style better than [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]. For instance…

I like this spelling way more than [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] for some reason! [name_m]Even[/name_m] with the capital I and lowercase l together, I still think it looks prettier than [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] (which is a lovely name but the spelling looks dated). I feel similarily about [name_f]Elinor[/name_f] >> [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] is very pretty! Admittedly I thought it was pronounced ih-leen until I read your description and realized it was said the same as [name_f]Eileen[/name_f], but visually I find it very elegant!

I really like it, the vet tech at my vet’s is named [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] spelled this way and she is a super nice person and great at her job so that good association has made me like it more than I used to.

I don’t know that I’ve found a spelling of [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] that I like - [name_f]Ilene[/name_f] is intriguing but does feel a bit like a take on [name_f]Irene[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Eileen[/name_f]. My sister was supposed to have [name_f]Eilene[/name_f] as her middle as a nod to my grandmother’s name (Arl3ne), but it was accidentally spelled the traditional way on her birth certificate LOL. I don’t hate [name_f]Eilene[/name_f], maybe due to my familiarity with it? But in general I like [name_f]Irene[/name_f] more anyway. Good luck finding a spelling you love!
