✰I'll discuss, respond to, and rate your top names! ✰

Thank you for creating this thread, @kasatka! I wanted to ask if you’d be willing to rate my top 10 names in my user card for each gender (the first 10 in each list)? If that’s too much, feel free to rate the first five for each gender!

idrc its not my actual name
ok for the sake of the thread, can you rate:
[name_f]Karla[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_u]Tony[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_m]Trevor[/name_m] [name_m]Robert[/name_m]

@Rachelhaydenberk

Elliott [name_u]Reese[/name_u] is AMAZING. I love it. It’s so versatile and works brilliantly on both a little baby and an adult. Wishing you a healthy baby and an easy delivery. xx

Of the rest of your names, my absolute favourites are…
Boys:

  • Teagan [name_u]George[/name_u]! I love seeing [name_u]George[/name_u]. It’s an absolute classic and I’m so surprised I don’t see it more on Nameberry! [name_u]Teagan[/name_u] pairs wonderfully with it as well, a slightly more modern, androgynous names with a strong classic like [name_u]George[/name_u] strikes a perfect balance for me.
    Girls:
  • Briar [name_f]Guilietta[/name_f]! [name_u]Briar[/name_u] is another name I truly appreciate, and it’s SO understated! TW: Miscarriage When I was 14, I miscarried a baby. It was an absolutely awful situation with a lot of legal issues and looking back, I wouldn’t have been able to raise the baby at that age. I’m not glad that it happened of course, but I would have named the baby [name_u]Briar[/name_u], for a boy or a girl. I was 100% sure on that, so this name is deeply special to me, and I can never use it in the future because of my past, but I am so touched to see it on other people’s lists.
I’ve met two Briars in my life, both from completely different age groups and I remember the first thing I thought upon meeting them was “wow, that’s such a pretty name!” [name_f]Guilietta[/name_f] pairs wonderfully, as [name_u]Briar[/name_u] is a strong unisex name, and [name_f]Giulietta[/name_f] is so feminine and elegant.
  • Bellamie [name_f]Kate[/name_f] - This name really stood out to me on your list, although I do prefer the spelling [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]. It’s on my own list as a unisex option! [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is such a strong name and reminds of [name_f]Kate[/name_f] Shepphard, the lady who won [name_u]New[/name_u] Zealand women the vote. ([name_u]New[/name_u] Zealand was the first country that allowed women to vote, so [name_f]Kate[/name_f] was a pretty cool lady if you ask me!)

I don’t dislike any of your names! I also have to give a special mention to how COOL Olivienne is!

@SparkleNinja18 [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] Stargazer is gorgeous!! The only thing I will say is that if it’s for a real baby and you’d want multiple children I think you’d have to find something that can equal Stargazer as a middle for the other children. Other than that it’s absolutely beautiful!

@kasatka I’m so happy someone made this thread for all names! What do you think of [name_f]Mavis[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_u]Dean[/name_u] and do you think this could be wearable for a real baby? (very far away from expecting just kinda curious)

[name_m]Ah[/name_m] yes, [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]! One of my old favourites would have once been in the 10/10 category. I’m sure you’ve heard this before, and it mustn’t have put you off (sadly, it put me off), but if a certain three letters are placed in front of the name, it makes an absolutely awful word. I just can’t shake that association. It’s really sad because it really is such a beautiful sound. I’m not sure if everyone would draw the same association though. How about this list? Ophelia - Baby Name Meaning, Origin, and Popularity | Nameberry
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] - 9/10 name!!! The Slavic meaning for it is “protector of mankind” which is a brilliant meaning. [name_f]My[/name_f] only downfall with this name is that I know a [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] who has her name mispronounced a lot where I live ([name_u]New[/name_u] Zealand), although I’m not sure how common that would be elsewhere, because I’m basing this judgment off of my sample of one person, haha.
[name_f]Aoife[/name_f] - LOVELY! Main issue is definitely pronunciation for non-Irish who haven’t heard the name. Although, like [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], this personally wouldn’t be a huge issue for me because that can be fixed with a simple correction when someone messes it up. I’m so glad Irish names are getting some love- they deserve it. 8/10
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f] - This name, personally, is a lot for me. Ironic coming from someone with ‘[name_f]Araminta[/name_f]’ in their name and who wants to name their kid Evaluna, I know. :joy: I’ve never been too obsessed with [name_f]Bella[/name_f] names, maybe that’s it. How about: Arabella - Baby Name Meaning, Origin, and Popularity | Nameberry. Overall, 6/10
[name_f]Eileen[/name_f] - For some reason, this name reminds me of [name_f]Jolene[/name_f], which is an old name I love. (See: Dolly Parton - Jolene (Audio) - YouTube, one of the best songs EVER! Big [name_f]Dolly[/name_f] [name_m]Parton[/name_m] fan.) Some may see it as dated or boring but I entirely disagree. 8/10.
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] - Your pronunciation of the name is my favourite of all the different ones! [name_f]Helen[/name_f] is a special name to me so I automatically am fond of [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and am happy to see it on your list! It feels old-fashioned yet fresh and gentle, which is a great combination if you ask me. 9/10
[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] - Oh gosh, my partner is OBSESSED with this name. He’s quite sad that I don’t want to name my daughter this lol! I used to be really down for this name until I found out the meaning of it. “Bringer Of Destruction.” I’m the sort of person who ties names VERY heavily to their meaning unfortunately. 0/10 for meaning, purely based on sound 9/10, so it balances to about a 5.5/10.

[name_m]Vance[/name_m] - I think [name_m]Vance[/name_m] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], the musician! This name is climbing up on my list too- I think it’s handsome and fun! I don’t have much to say about it yet though, but if I think of anything else I’ll let you know later! 7.5/10
[name_m]Napolean[/name_m] - I automatically think of [name_m]Napolean[/name_m] Dynamite the film… Whether that’s a good thing, I’ll let you be the judge. Then I think of Animal Farm. Then the [name_u]French[/name_u] Revolution. Personally, with all of these associations, I find the name to be quite overwhelming. 5/10.
[name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] - Okay, so this is an accent thing, take it with a grain of salt, but I can NOT pronounce this name. Similar to how I just cannot pronounce [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], I can’t pronounce [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m]. If you go to [name_m]Germany[/name_m] or Iceland, you will encounter a lot of people who likely won’t be able to pronounce this, so keep this in mind. Unfortunately, I feel like I can’t give it a fair rating since I can’t actually say it, however, it looks very aesthetically pleasing written down so I’ll give it some bonus points for that!
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] - I have a bad association with this name, HOWEVER, associations aside, it’s so handsome. It has some sweet nickname potential and is very underrated nowadays. I’d be absolutely delighted to meet a little [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. 7.5/10
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] - See [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]. 7.5/10
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] - 10/10! Hehe  This is my partner’s name, so automatically I LOVE IT! [name_u]Sam[/name_u] is a cute nickname, and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] by itself is lovely. This name is timeless and it’s not at a point of overuse (at least where I live.)
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] - I was just telling someone earlier today how much I enjoy this name! I would love it on my list, unfortunately, I tie this name to a not very nice person from my childhood. I think it’s phonetically and aesthetically stunning and has great potential to be a popular name for little boys one day. 7/10

@milqtea You already know I love your names, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]! I can’t wait to see you come up with some boy combinations at some point.

Callista [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is just PERFECT- I remember when you first joined and this was the only name you had. I always think of you when I see the name [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. Personally, I’m very fond of the nickname [name_f]Callie[/name_f]. It feels so soft and gentle. As for [name_f]Eve[/name_f], this is one of my absolute favourite names as a lot of people might know. [name_f]Eve[/name_f] is so balanced and aesthetically pleasing and goes wonderfully with [name_f]Callista[/name_f]. It even works with the nickname ([name_f]Callie[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f])
[name_f]Amaris[/name_f] [name_f]Verity[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] - Okay I’ll be honest with you, I wouldn’t know how to confidently pronounce [name_f]Amaris[/name_f]! Is it Am-[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_u]Reese[/name_u]? If it is, I do really like it! This name as a whole is incredibly feminine and pretty. [name_f]Verity[/name_f] is one of my favourite virtue names as well, with a delightful meaning. [name_f]Estelle[/name_f] reminds me a lot of my own name so I do really like it haha! [name_f]Estella[/name_f], [name_f]Estelle[/name_f], and [name_f]Stella[/name_f] are all names I really love nowadays. Your daughter would be lucky to have this name!
[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] - I prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], but [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] HAS been growing on me lately, so maybe that’ll end up changing. [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] is gorgeous- total princess vibes! It’s also my friends’ middle name (Her name is [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]! Isn’t that gorgeous?) [name_u]Leigh[/name_u] feels a bit like it’s been added at the end, but I do really like the flow of [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f] [name_u]Leigh[/name_u], so it DOES work!

@SparkleNinja18 No, I really don’t think it’s over-the-top. Honestly, if you had it in the first name slot, I’d probably be gently encouraging you to move it to the middle, but I think it sounds delightful with [name_f]Amaia[/name_f]. I’d be a complete hypocrite for discouraging extravagent names. It flows so well in this combination.

Furthermore, if your daughter didn’t like it, she wouldn’t have to use it. Middle names aren’t used on job applications or school roles, she would simply be [name_f]Amaia[/name_f], which is a lovely name! [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_f]May[/name_f]-[name_m]Ah[/name_m] or [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_f]My[/name_f]-[name_m]Ah[/name_m]? Both are lovely. I didn’t like one of my middle names growing up, so I just pretended it wasn’t there. I’m proud of the name now and am so delighted that it’s mine, but it was very easy to avoid when I was younger! Furthermore, she could always shorten it to [name_f]Star[/name_f] or Gazer which are bit more subtle.

Even now, if my middle name was Stargazer? [name_f]Stella[/name_f] Stargazer is an epic name, I mean come on! I’d be so excited to share that on Nameberry with y’all. :joy:

[name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_u]Tempest[/name_u] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] combination! I’ve already commented on [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] to another person, so I’ll copy and paste what I said about it so you can have the same feedback. [name_m]Just[/name_m] open the Summary!

Summary

Oh gosh, my partner is OBSESSED with this name.

As for [name_u]Tempest[/name_u], I think it’s lovely! I personally see it as more of a surname because this is my best friends mother’s surname, but surname aside it has a wonderful sound, that I’d rate 7/10! As for the flow of Peresephone [name_u]Tempest[/name_u], it’s an absolute 10/10, putting aside what I said regarding [name_f]Persephone[/name_f].

Hermione [name_u]Fable[/name_u] - VERY literary is my first thought! [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is one of my absolute favourite characters is [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], so I love seeing it. The [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association will be permanent and brought up throughout her whole life, but if you think you and your family would be okay with that, [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is a stunning name. I’d rate it 8/10. As for [name_u]Fable[/name_u], this is also GORGEOUS, but it feels like a little bit much in combination with [name_f]Hermione[/name_f]? I’d prefer [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] [name_u]Fable[/name_u], so switching the middles! [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is still very literary (HP & TKAM), but less on-the-nose in my opinion.

Tabitha [name_u]Scout[/name_u] - Stunnnnning! [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is incredibly underrated and I love seeing it paired with such a spunky, cool middle. [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] feels very elegant, so the names have a really good balance. [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] is 7/10, [name_u]Scout[/name_u] is 8/10 for me. So together… 15/20? :joy: A good score!

Mariposa [name_f]Glory[/name_f] - Wow this name is very magical! This name makes me want to sing. [name_f]Glory[/name_f] is one of my guilty pleasure middle names, and I love seeing it in people’s combinations who are a lot braver than me (lol!) But seriously, massive fan of this. [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] is lovely because I LOVE the nickname [name_f]Mari[/name_f]. However, [name_f]Mariposa[/name_f] without a nickname is lovely too. 8/10

All great options

@EagleEyes I love your combos! Are these new ones? I don’t think I’ve seen you mention these ones before!

Cecelia [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - As I’ve said to a few other people, I tie meanings very heavily to names, definitely a LOT more than the average person. The meaning of [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] really does make me sound, because phonetically it’s a very pretty name! I’d describe it as very classical and refined. It sounds darling when paired with [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] - [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is my favourite [name_f]Mari[/name_f]- variant, aside from [name_f]Mary[/name_f] itself. 7/10
[name_u]Mattie[/name_u] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] - I’ll admit, I’ve never been the biggest fan of [name_u]Mattie[/name_u]. I really love [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] though, which is also in your UC! [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] [name_f]Summer[/name_f] would be amazing, definitely 8.5/10. Personally, [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] is only a 5/10 for me, but [name_f]Summer[/name_f] is definitely an 8.5, as is [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]. [name_f]Summer[/name_f] just feels so bright and cheerful! There is nothing wrong with the name [name_u]Mattie[/name_u], just NMS and I think there are better names to go with [name_f]Summer[/name_f]!
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] - I love love love [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]! [name_u]Ever[/name_u] since seawillow started promoting it, I’ve fallen in love with it. I used to not be a fan of it, but it’s definitely grown on me. It sounds wonderful with [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and personally, I’d LOVE this to be my name! It would suit me very well, haha! 9/10
[name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - I prefer elongated names with [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as a nickname, but [name_f]Annie[/name_f] itself is lovely! It’s one of my favourite nicknames and I’ve been searching for the perfect name that has [name_f]Annie[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is incredibly underrated nowadays and I’d loved to see it used more. It feels like it fits in with the [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_u]Marie[/name_u], and [name_f]Grace[/name_f] type middle names, but it just doesn’t have the same level of popularity so it feels very unique and fresh! 8/10.

@leafygreens thank you! Well, the other names I’d currently consider for real babies are in my UC so you tell me if they match. I think Stargazer is the wordiest of my middle names, which is why I was hesitant.

@kasatka thanks! I’m glad you (and others!) don’t think it’s too much. [name_f]Amaia[/name_f] is pronounced ah-MY-uh and is a lovely Basque name that honors a place that’s very important to myself and my family.

Thank you so much for the feedback! And yes, these are pretty new- they’re some of my “considering” combos that I’m not decided on yet.

[name_f]Flora[/name_f] is so lovely! It reminds me a lot of [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], which is one of my favourite names. I had a quick scroll through the other names you like and it DEFINITELY fits in with them. [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] would be the CUTEST twins, was my first thought… I’d probably rate it 9/10!
[name_f]Thea[/name_f] is also lovely! I slightly prefer [name_f]Flora[/name_f] but [name_f]Thea[/name_f] has lovely imagery. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you pronounce it Thee-[name_m]Ah[/name_m] or Tee-[name_m]Ah[/name_m]? Instinctively, I pronounce it Thee-[name_m]Ah[/name_m] but I’ve seen both, so the name could end up with a few pronunciation issues. Overall, an above-average name! 7.5/10
[name_u]Sage[/name_u] - For some reason, I’ve never been able to get behind [name_u]Sage[/name_u] like I can with other nature names. Maybe try Sage - Baby Name Meaning, Origin, and Popularity | Nameberry. I had a quick scroll through this page and saw some that I think you’ll really like, but I’ll let you be the judge! I’d rate this name 6/10

[name_m]Cedric[/name_m] reminds me of the sweet boy from [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]! Now I’m going to get sad thinking of that! Association aside, [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] is a beautiful name. It reminds me of [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], which a nature name I really appreciate. I’m surprised this name isn’t in the Nameberry system? Maybe it is but it isn’t showing on my screen. 8/10
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is super cute! I love the nickname, [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]/Freddie. To be honest, though the name isn’t my style so I don’t have heaps to say about it but I’d rate it 7.5/10!
