I'm just not a fan of boys' names.

I have a ton of girl options, but very few for boys. I would prefer something not in the top 100 or maybe 200 and not too trendy. I’m also not a huge fan of nicknames. [name]Gideon[/name] is probably my favorite right now. [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] are also on the list, but while I like them, I’m just not loving them. I used to love [name]Jasper[/name] but I’m hearing it an awful lot these days, and it has lost its luster to me.

I’m just having a hard time getting into this. Does anyone have suggestions for first names or for middle names for the names that I have listed?

[name]Gideon[/name] is a fun name! Also love [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Declan[/name]!
Boy names are easier for me than girl names. I know, that is odd.

*names that I would consider using

[name]Susan[/name], that is a fantastic list of suggestions!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I was discussing this with my husband, and I think that a part of my problem is that we are yuppies in a very “blue collar” kind of city. I find myself worrying that our son (if it’s a boy) would have a hard time with some of the names that we like because they’re too yuppie and not “masculine” enough. It feels like every guy in this city has one of four names, and all of their sons are [name]Jr[/name]. We keep thinking of how the name will fit as an adult, but we have to get him through childhood unscathed first.

[name]Gideon[/name] is a fun name! Also love [name]Finn[/name] and [name]Declan[/name]!

*names that I would consider using[/quote]

Several years ago my family and I went to a church that was into really conservative names, so I know what you’re talking about! Plus we lived in CO Springs for two years.
Fun names in a blue-collar environment:
[name]Thomas[/name] (as a boy, he can be [name]Tom[/name], then if you move to a cool area, he can be [name]Thomas[/name])
[name]William[/name] ([name]Will[/name])
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Eric[/name]
[name]Joseph[/name] ([name]Joe[/name])
[name]Andrew[/name] ([name]Drew[/name])
[name]Nicholas[/name] nn [name]Cole[/name] (If [name]Cole[/name] seems too odd, he can become a [name]Nick[/name])
[name]Michael[/name] - such a safe name. Almost everybody loves it.
[name]Matthew[/name] - safe, too.
[name]Zachary[/name] ([name]Zach[/name]) - some people think this name is really on the edge of cool. For me it’s a nice name, somewhat overdone, but I do like it a lot.
[name]Alexander[/name]: [name]Blue[/name] Collar nn: [name]Alex[/name], White Collar nn: [name]Zander[/name] ([name]Alex[/name] can be white collar, too.)
[name]Isaac[/name]: my relative who lives in a small city in AZ named her son this name.
[name]Lucas[/name]: [name]Blue[/name] Collar: [name]Luke[/name], White Collar: [name]Lucas[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]: kind of works either way.
I think many old testament boys names would work in a blue-collar area:
[name]Daniel[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name] ([name]Jake[/name] rocks)
[name]Joshua[/name] ([name]Josh[/name])
[name]Caleb[/name]
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Jesse[/name]

[name]Don[/name]'t use:
[name]Moses[/name]
[name]Isaiah[/name]
[name]Abraham[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name]

Go crazy with his middle name. That will be fun.
A lot of the above names can be white collar, too. It’s just that they’re accepted in both worlds.

CO Springs (we did live in a nice part of town) names that I recall:
[name]Connor[/name]
[name]Tanner[/name]
[name]Martin[/name] nn [name]Marty[/name]
[name]Jacob[/name]
[name]John[/name] (lots of Johns)
[name]Ryan[/name]
[name]Chase[/name]
[name]Scott[/name]
[name]Kevin[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Bobby[/name]
[name]Christopher[/name]
[name]Jordan[/name]
[name]Dalton[/name]
[name]Carter[/name]
[name]Chaz[/name]
[name]Drake[/name]
[name]Stephen[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Jesse[/name]
[name]Hunter[/name]
[name]Trevor[/name]
[name]Payden[/name]
[name]Cody[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
This would make an incredible blog! The Co Springs girls’ names are amazing, too.

I think that most of those names are usable even in a community like yours; don’t let the little things like that keep you from using a name that you love (if the name you liked had an obvious teasing factor it would be a different story).

Thanks, Lyndsayjenness!

We may have a winner: we both tentatively like [name]Bram[/name]. We are going to try it on for a few days to see how we feel about it. We haven’t even discussed middle names yet, though.

And watch, now that we have gone through all that (and there were a lot of discussions over this), it will be a girl.

[name]Owen[/name] is a good, masculine name that would work for your white-collar boy in is blue-collar world!

Oh, I really like [name]Bram[/name]. I hadn’t even thought of it for a potential boy. Good one.

I just had to chime in here because there’s just too much irony going on here. I have always been in the same boat as far as boys’ names. I have successfully named two boys and am now expecting a third child whose gender will remain a mystery until birth. The really ironic part is that my two boys’ names are [name]Finnegan[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] (nn [name]Finn[/name]) and [name]Gideon[/name] [name]Owen[/name]. We have also talked about the name [name]Jasper[/name] but have also ruled it out.

Anyway, good luck! I could sure use some!
