I'm seriously panicking

Okay, so we have four children - [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]. We are having twins later this year, probably a girl and a boy, but we’re not 100% sure about that yet.

We don’t have any names picked out, and for some reason we have barely talked about names this pregnancy. We have a huge list of names and I’m panicking, how on earth are we supposed to narrow that list down? We need your help!

These are some of the names I’m most unsure about. Keep them or throw them away? What do you think? [name]Do[/name] they sound horrible with [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]?

[name]Adara[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Judith[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]

[name]Andreas[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Ari[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name]
[name]Emil[/name]
[name]Isaiah[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Nicodemus[/name]
[name]Philemon[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]

Thanks!

[name]LOVE[/name] your names! Maybe you’re panicking because you have a serious vowel theme going and you’ve run through them all except U (and sometimes Y)? [name]Ursula[/name] and [name]Yannick[/name]?

Joking, really. As your new picks show you [name]DO[/name] like vowel names and so your choices are to: a) Stick with vowels but start repeating or b) Move on to unfamiliar consonant territory and keep with your non-repeating pattern so far.

If you choose Option A, I’d say you need to choose names that are otherwise distinct from those with the same initial. Therefore: [name]Anastasia[/name], yes; [name]Adara[/name], no as it’s too close to [name]Adelaide[/name]. [name]Ian[/name], yes; [name]Isaiah[/name], no.

I know I’m making this a kind of mathematical exercise, but with [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name], I’d say you could do:

[name]Astrid[/name]
[name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Judith[/name]
[name]Paulina[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]

[name]Andreas[/name]
[name]Amos[/name]
[name]Ari[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name]
[name]Emil[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Nicodemus[/name]
[name]Philemon[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]

Within those, there are so many wonderful ways you can go. In general, I prefer twin names that don’t have the same first initial, though [name]Philemon[/name] and [name]Paulina[/name] make a great pair and start with a different sound. [name]Amos[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name] have a different first initial but the M ties them together.

I’m sure the berries will have some amazing ideas!

From your girls’ list, the names that I like best with your sibset are [name]Ingrid[/name] or [name]Isla[/name]. I think these 2 match the best with [name]Adelaide[/name].

From your boys’ list, I really like [name]Benedict[/name],[name]Tristan[/name], [name]Noah[/name],[name]Ari[/name], or [name]Ian[/name]. I like [name]Nicodemus[/name] for a middle name spot.

Good luck! I’m in a rut too right now picking a name and our baby girl will be here in a week! I feel for you!

[name]Hi[/name]! Congratulations! Here are my thoughts, although I’m sure more experienced and knowledgeable berries will chime in soon.

With [name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]:

[name]Adara[/name] - Too close to [name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name] - I like it, but something about it doesn’t quite fit. Maybe a Middle name?
[name]Astrid[/name] - love this name! But I’m not sure it’s the best fit
[name]Anastasia[/name] - I think this would work. It has the same feel as the rest of your kiddos
[name]Imogen[/name] - I think this is also a really good choice! The “i” sound is different from [name]Isaac[/name] and fits into the style you have going with your other 4.
[name]Ingrid[/name] - ditto [name]Astrid[/name].
[name]Isla[/name] - way too close to [name]Isaac[/name] to my ear.
[name]Judith[/name] - yes
[name]Paulina[/name] - yes
[name]Seraphina[/name] - yes

So for girls, I think I like (in order): [name]Imogen[/name], [name]Anastasia[/name], with the runners-up [name]Seraphina[/name], [name]Judith[/name] and [name]Paulina[/name]

[name]How[/name] do you feel about [name]Philomena[/name]? I notice you have [name]Philemon[/name] on your boys list. I think [name]Philomena[/name] picks up the sounds of both that name and [name]Seraphina[/name], and has a lovely nn of [name]Mena[/name] (if you like nns).

[name]Andreas[/name] - like
[name]Amos[/name] - doesn’t really fit
[name]Ari[/name] - doesn’t really fit
[name]Benedict[/name] - yes
[name]Crispin[/name] - yes
[name]Emil[/name] - love this
[name]Isaiah[/name] - too similar to [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Ian[/name] - too much with [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Noah[/name] - seems too modern/popular
[name]Nicodemus[/name] - I think this would be a great mn, but maybe too romantic with you other boy names? I think it would make a good twin to [name]Benedict[/name] though
[name]Philemon[/name] - hmm… I can’t seem to love this the way I love the female [name]Philomena[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name] - love

So for boys, I think my favorites for you would be: [name]Benedict[/name], [name]Tristan[/name], [name]Crispin[/name], [name]Emil[/name]

Some combos (with my own suggestion

[name]Philomena[/name] and [name]Anastasia[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Tristan[/name] I think this is my favorite b/g combo
[name]Judith[/name] and [name]Emil[/name]
[name]Benedict[/name] and [name]Philomena[/name] This is my favorite b/g combo (pending you like [name]Philomena[/name])
[name]Benedict[/name] and [name]Nicodemus[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name] and [name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Crispin[/name] and [name]Paulina[/name]
[name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Judith[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] that helps at all! Good luck!

I would stick with vowel names. That is a cool pattern you have going. From your list, I like [name]Imogen[/name] and [name]Andreas[/name] best. Some other suggestions:
[name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Ottilie[/name]
[name]Elsbeth[/name]
[name]Isolde[/name]

[name]Alistair[/name]
[name]August[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name]
[name]Albert[/name]
[name]Evander[/name]
[name]Inigo[/name]

[name]Hi[/name]! I think your childrens names flow really well together and sound classic and enduring, its obviously important you get the same feel to your next two arrivals (congratulations by the way - thats quite a family!)

I’ll comment on your list and try to add a few suggestions to go with -
[name]Edward[/name], [name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] & [name]Oliver[/name]

[name]Adara[/name]
[name]Ariadne[/name]
[name]Astrid[/name] - these first three i think sound too close to [name]Adelaide[/name] with the strong A and D sounds.
[name]Anastasia[/name] - lovely name but not sure it flows that well with the others, it doesnt feel as classic, plus you would have 2 girls starting with A which may or may not be an issue
[name]Imogen[/name] - Goes fabulously with the other childrens names and [name]Immy[/name] is very cute nm
[name]Ingrid[/name] - not personally keen, seems dated to me
[name]Isla[/name] - seems more of a popular one (bear in mind Im in the UK, its getting quite common here) than a classic like the others but i do think its a very pretty name
[name]Judith[/name] - not a fan
[name]Paulina[/name] - not a fan
[name]Seraphina[/name] - my choice of mn for baby due in 2 weeks if a girl so [name]LOVE[/name] bu having said that Im not sure if it flows that well with your other children - but def as a mn.

[name]Andreas[/name] - not keen personally and dont think it fits with your others
[name]Amos[/name] - ok, bit better flow but not as strong as your current childrens names
[name]Ari[/name] - never heard this before (sounds like 'arry without the ‘h’ to me, im sure thats a British thing!)
[name]Benedict[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name], classic but unusual, strong, flows so well with the others - my fav of your list
[name]Crispin[/name] - like very much, flows very well
[name]Emil[/name] - not keen, not heard of and dont think its great with your others
[name]Isaiah[/name] - bit similar to [name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Ian[/name] - really dont like, this is dated in UK
[name]Noah[/name] - bit trendy with the others
[name]Nicodemus[/name] - not that keen
[name]Philemon[/name] - ok
[name]Tristan[/name] - nice but doesnt flow as well as some of your other choices.

what about…
girls - [name]Eleanor[/name], [name]Camilla[/name], [name]Caitlyn[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name] (my fn if this baby is a girl - think it goes well with your childrens names), [name]Harriet[/name].

boys (but loving [name]Benedict[/name] the most)- [name]William[/name], [name]Barnaby[/name], [name]Hector[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Henry[/name], [name]Christian[/name].
