Imani

Hi all! What do you think of the name Imani? It’s pretty different from my current favorites, but it’s a name that I loved as a child and I’m thinking to add it to my list. Big plus is that my husband likes it, too!
I’ve been holding on to Magdalena as a middle name for a while. Even though it feels so different in style from Imani, is there any chance at all that they would work together? What other names would you pair with Imani? Some of my current favorites are Lucia, Luciana, Nadia, Eliana, and Salomé to give you an idea of style. Thanks so much!

I teach 4th grade and have an [name_f]Imani[/name_f] in my class. She is a sweet girl. Her sister is [name_f]Serenity[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is beautiful.

I know [name_f]Imani[/name_f] means faith in Swahili. I actually know an [name_f]Imani[/name_f] who is multiracial but looks white.

I actually rather like it! [name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is beautiful.

I know a young [name_f]Imani[/name_f]! It’s such a bright and joyous name! I think [name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] sounds gorgeous paired together too!

[name_f]Imani[/name_f] is sweet! I went to high school with an [name_f]Imani[/name_f]. I think it means “faith” in Swahili? The [name_f]Imani[/name_f] I knew had a fairly standard combo (Imani [name_f]Jane[/name_f] I think!), but I’d happily meet another [name_f]Imani[/name_f]. [name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is a fascinating combo!

I’m not sure what feels like it fits with Imani—maybe [name_f]Aziza[/name_f]?

Good luck!

It’s not a name I would personally use, but it feels very wearable. I think it fits in with your other favourites, and altogether they give me a very international feel. [name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] works perfectly!

Wow, thank you all so much for the encouraging responses! I’m excited to know [name_f]Imani[/name_f] Magdelena may be a potential combo for us someday.

[name_f]Imani[/name_f] is a lovely name - sweet but strong in sound, and nice in meaning.

Obviously, I have no idea of your heritage or religion and don’t want to presume, but I would expect an [name_f]Imani[/name_f] to be of either Arabic descent, or born to Muslim parents - especially as it’s related to the belief in the six articles of faith :person_shrugging:

[name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] is pretty and unexpected

Thank you for this! This has been something I’ve been a little unsure about. I love the meaning of Imani- faith. We are a Christian family and typically give names to our children with biblical significance. Our children are also biracial, as I’m African-American and my husband is of English and Hungarian descent. I’ve read that Imani is associated with both Swahili and Arabic, it has some usage in the African-American community; it’s also related to Kwanzaa as well as Islam. I wasn’t sure how heavily related the name was to Islam or whether it was just as frequently used by Christians as well. I’ll need to look more into this. Thanks again!

[name_f]Imani[/name_f] is such a stylish name. I’ve met multiple [name_m]Black[/name_m] girls with the name; I wouldn’t presume the person to be Muslim since Arabic-origin names like [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f], [name_m]Malik[/name_m], [name_m]Khalil[/name_m] etc. are so popular among African-Americans of any religion.

[name_f]Imani[/name_f] is a very stylish and modern name. It also sounds a bit cute on a young child maybe for the -ee sound, and on a teen it sounds cool and fresh, on a woman it sounds smart and full of musicality. On a similar vein, I like [name_f]Inaya[/name_f] and I would suggest you [name_f]Inaya[/name_f] too.

[name_f]Imani[/name_f] [name_f]Magdalena[/name_f] sounds like something out of a fairytale (positively). It’s so pretty.

@4blessings thank you for the insight! I will add that my perspective/associations might be influenced by the fact I’m in the UK, and went to - and now work in - a school, with lots of Arabic and Muslim students - so all the Imans/Imanis I’ve met have been such!
I think knowing more about it - and its different usage - I think you could use it and it feel meaningful  Imani Magdalena is a lovely way to bring the more direct Christian links in too
