*The entire Lombardi family immigrated from [name_m]Rome[/name_m], [name_f]Italy[/name_f] to [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City in 1911. The family decide to stay in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City to start their new lives. The family patriarch [name_m]Giovanni[/name_m] found work quickly as a factory worker at a car part factory because of his extensive experience working back in [name_f]Italy[/name_f]. Soon after starting work he managed to find jobs for his four sons; [name_m]Giorgio[/name_m], [name_m]Aldo[/name_m], [name_m]Giovanni[/name_m] [name_m]Jr[/name_m] and [name_m]Quinto[/name_m].

The family’s eldest daughter [name_f]Silvana[/name_f] and her husband [name_m]Carlo[/name_m] soon opened a grocery store, employing her sisters [name_f]Silvana[/name_f] and [name_f]Carolina[/name_f].

A year before leaving, [name_m]Giorgio[/name_m] married his girlfriend [name_f]Chiara[/name_f]. Soon after arriving NYC she gave birth to the first family member born in [name_f]America[/name_f], a son named after his grandfather and nicknamed [name_m]Gio[/name_m].

Aldo’s girlfriend [name_f]Annamaria[/name_f] travelled with the family and the couple got married as soon as they arrived in NYC.*

The entire (exceptionally large) Spanos family was able to come to [name_f]America[/name_f] in 1906 thanks to Marika’s husband, [name_m]Alexandros[/name_m], who used the money he inherited from his grandfather to secure tickets for his wife’s parents and siblings.

They all settled in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m]. [name_m]Anton[/name_m] and [name_f]Filippa[/name_f] were able to open a restaurant staffed by their children, and [name_m]Stefanos[/name_m], [name_f]Marika[/name_f], and [name_m]Alexandros[/name_m] were able to open a flower shop. Stefanos’s wife, [name_f]Melina[/name_f], also works with them in the shop.

Christoforos met [name_f]Theodosia[/name_f] “Thea,” another Greek immigrant, shortly after her family came to the US. Soon after that, the two married and started a family. [name_f]Thea[/name_f] and her sister-in-law, [name_f]Hanna[/name_f], Zacharias’s wife, work together with [name_f]Stella[/name_f] and [name_f]Flora[/name_f] to look after all the new additions to the family.

The D’Angelo family emigrated from [name_m]Palermo[/name_m], [name_f]Italy[/name_f], in 1909 and arrived in [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]York[/name_m] City, where they settled and where [name_m]Carmelo[/name_m] works as a construction worker, while [name_f]Rosa[/name_f] takes care of the house and the children.

Soon the family made contact with old neighbours and friends who had also emigrated. [name_f]Maria[/name_f] fell in love with one of them, [name_m]Stefano[/name_m] Torrisi, a tailor also born in [name_m]Palermo[/name_m], and the happy couple married in 1910.

There was also time for the family to meet other emigrants from different parts of [name_f]Italy[/name_f], such as the Palumbo family, originally from [name_m]Rome[/name_m]. [name_m]Francesco[/name_m] and [name_f]Annamaria[/name_f] Palumbo married when she turned eighteen and soon became pregnant. In addition to parenthood, [name_m]Francesco[/name_m] is focused on running his business, a general store, which he opened after saving money working alongside his father as a construction worker. [name_f]Annamaria[/name_f] is also involved in the day-to-day running of the business, although she now also has to take care of their daughter [name_f]Rosa[/name_f].
