Okay, [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is like my guilty pleasure name if I ever get to have a daughter but I’m just worried because we live in the US, [name_m]Washington[/name_m] State to be more specific, and I don’t think I’ve ever heard the name in person. I know the americanized version is [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] but I’ve never heard that name either outside of [name_m]Fried[/name_m] [name_u]Green[/name_u] Tomatoes, anyways, I much prefer [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and the IM-uh-jen pronunciation. I don’t want to burden a child with a name that’s difficult for them and we prefer traditional names so I just don’t know. Out of all the names I’ve suggested to friends and family it’s the least liked. No straight hate, but just “not my favorite” type of comments.
The full would be name is [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] [name_f]Renée[/name_f] S**ton. I figure she could go by [name_f]Immy[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] if she hates it but I don’t know.
I’m conflicted because I know it’s unpopular but no other girls name has charmed me quite like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]. We have an [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] [name_u]Robert[/name_u] too so I like [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] & [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] together.
I love the name [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], and I don’t really see it being difficult in the US! I live here, too. It’s a gorgeous name, and not one which I’d imagine anyone pronouncing poorly. Seems pretty intuitive to me! And just gorgeous!!
[name_f]My[/name_f] fiance has suggested maybe spelling it Imagen/Emagen so it’s really intuitive but Imagen reads like [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] to me and I like the alliteration with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] so I don’t want to deviate from the I and IMO-gen isn’t like a totally different name, just overemphasizing so I don’t feel like it’s that problematic if people pronounce it wrong initially. I guess if they try ih-MOG-in that’s straight awful but a good opportunity for a laugh lol but I don’t want her bullied for a less common name that may not be pronounced right first try.
Maybe it’s just from my UK perspective, but [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] doesn’t feel particularly difficult to say or wear. As you say, her full name gives her the options of [name_f]Immy[/name_f] or [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] (or even [name_f]Gen[/name_f] or Ginny) and your friends seem to have at least heard of it!
Wait Imogen isn’t pronounced like that?! I always supposed it was so I disliked the name because of the sound
IMO-gen sounds way better, I am starting to like it more
I completely understand why you’re in love with her she’s so lovely. I’m from the UK where [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is relatively standard so for me I find your concerns regarding pronunciation a little off. I honestly do not find the name hard at all and I do not feel she would encounter any difficulty. Saying this I think if you love the name still use her people will learn how to say her name and it won’t be that tricky to say.
imogen is a lovely name! i was familiar with it from a story, where it was imogene, and since then i’ve found the latter a much more pleasant name. naming culture now, too, is so much more accepting nowadays. especially amongst children; i went to school with an elizel, which sounded just as common and pronounceable as the aiden’s and emma’s and matthew’s. my own name is mispronounced a lot, but i’ve never been made fun of for it. imogen will do well in the US, i think.
This is one of my and my sister’s long standing favorites so its been mentioned a lot in my house. We got it right away but its taken my mom a few reminders for her to grasp the pronunciation since she was only familiar with the [name_f]Imogene[/name_f] version but i think it would probably have helped if she’d seen it written down. I think its been a bit more on people’s radar lately so it won’t be entirely out of left field where she has to correct everyone she meets and I love [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] together.
I’m from the US and I‘ve met an [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] before! She wore it very well and I don’t remember any pronunciation or spelling issues. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] seems perfect for you, I say go for it! I normally don’t go for alliterative names but [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_f]Ivey[/name_f] (Renée) is so cute [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_u]Arthur[/name_u] are perfect for siblings!
