I have been searching (and posting recently) about my search for a perfect M name. We had [name]Madeleine[/name] as a backup but it seems safe and common for my husband and I (both who have unique names) Our daughter is [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Myla[/name] seems a similar style. Also, I learned [name]Myla[/name] is the female version of [name]Miles[/name] which was our boy name…so it kind of seems meant to be.
Its a little rare however so I want to just make sure…its not going to get butchered in pronounciation. Could people screw this up? seems simple: MY-LA.
SO what is your reaction? Pretty & Feminine or wierd & quirky?
And can you think of a pretty one-syllable (or 2) middle for it besides the overused rose or [name]Kate[/name]( I love them both but again, we like something a little different). [name]Feel[/name] free to be blunt and uncensored.
I still am hoping to hear some reactions to the name [name]Myla[/name]. We live [name]Lila[/name]/lylah but can’t go there with a last name that also starts with an L. So please tell me what kind of girl you picture??? Sweet, shy, spunky, outgoing? Blond or brunette? Really anything that comes to mind.
To be honest, I kind of really don’t like it. It sounds like a cross between [name]Miley[/name] and [name]Lila[/name] or something else ending in ‘a’. It strikes me as incredibly trendy, unfortunately.
I actually really like [name]Madeleine[/name] though! I feel it goes [name]WAY[/name] better with [name]Celia[/name] ([name]IMO[/name]), and it’s much classier. I think that [name]Madeleine[/name] would age a lot better than [name]Myla[/name], too. [name]Do[/name] you have any nicknames that you would want to use for [name]Madeleine[/name], or would it just end up being [name]Maddie[/name]? I think that if you were to find a more interesting, less overused nickname it could be pretty perfect with [name]Celia[/name]. [name]Celia[/name] is one of my absolute favorite names ever, but I could never use it because it’s the name of my step-grandma…
I actually know two (grown) sisters named [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Madeleine[/name], and I think it’s a nice sibset. [name]Both[/name] names are beautiful and feminine.
[name]Myla[/name] seems trendy and made-up sounding to me. At best, it reminds me of [name]Lila[/name]…but at worst it reminds me of [name]Miley[/name] and all the other “y” names that people have been favoring lately. You said one reason you liked it is because of its similarity to [name]Miles[/name] (a great name!), so I took the liberty of making a short list of other names that remind me of [name]Miles[/name]. I think you could get a nickname along the lines of [name]Millie[/name] or [name]Mellie[/name] from any of these:
[name]Amelie[/name], [name]Amelia[/name]
[name]Emily[/name]
[name]Emmeline[/name]
[name]Melinda[/name]
[name]Melisande[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Myla[/name]'s pretty and inoffensive, so if you really love it, you should use it. But it doesn’t seem as traditional as [name]Celia[/name] or [name]Madeleine[/name] to me.
I know a [name]Myla[/name] (less than a year old) and she’s adorable so I’m biased! But I much prefer [name]Madeleine[/name], which I think sounds lovely with [name]Celia[/name]. And I like the suggestion of [name]Millie[/name] from a previous poster. [name]Amelia[/name]/[name]Amelie[/name], [name]Millicent[/name] and [name]Romilly[/name] all lend themselves nicely to [name]Millie[/name].
I prefer the spelling [name]Mila[/name], which is technically pronounced MEE-la but I usually pronounce it MY-la. [name]Mila[/name] is much better than [name]Miley[/name].
I love [name]Myla[/name]! Although it may sound a bit trendy at first, it’s actually a classic and means “Merciful”. We’re considering [name]Myla[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] if we have a girl : )
I love it! I know a little one under 2 named [name]Myla[/name], her parents are [name]Miles[/name] and [name]Laura[/name] so they combined their names… which I usually don’t like but this one was super cute!
I was given the name of [name]Myla[/name] in 1952 so I had the name [name]LONG[/name] before anyone had heard of it. My mother said she took the phrase My [name]Love[/name] to see what she could come up with…if I had been a boy I would have been called Mylo but since I was a girl she placed an “a” at the end of the name. For many years I hated the name because no one had ever heard of it and kids at school made fun of it. But then I grew to love it because it was unique. I have seen the name spelled [name]Mila[/name] and I also met a woman from either Finland or Denmark in San [name]Diego[/name]. Her name was the same as mine but was spelled Maila - it was pronounced the same as [name]Myla[/name] and she said in her country it was as common as [name]Susan[/name] or [name]Linda[/name] is here in the US. I noticed they have now found a “meaning” of the name which I could never find (even up to about 10 years ago) and now I see it was the most popular name in 2011. I do have some people who pronounce it as “Meelah” which I hate but that is rare and I quickly correct them.
Not sure if it helps but I was born blonde, blue-eyed. Not shy but not overbearing either. [name]Love[/name] to try anything once which includes flying lessons and skydiving. I [name]LOVE[/name] all animals and work with 3 animal groups, love to write poetry and music, when I was young I loved to party and be around people…I still enjoy people but at my age partying is a little different these days. I’m loyal to friends, hard working, dependable and have a big heart. But I also feel people need to be accountable and have no problem letting them know. I feel right is right, you get what you give if you give from your heart and try to be as positive as I can. I lived in commune for 6 months but never was into drugs and though I love the song “[name]Love[/name] the one you’re with” I never lived by it’s meaning except for just (in general) loving everyone around me and trying to do right by them. [name]Hope[/name] this helps. Best wishes for your new addition.
I absolutely love the name [name_f]Myla[/name_f]. It’s so pretty and sweet and I think it could easily transition from infancy to adulthood. I don’t think the pronunciation would be hard to mess up. The meaning of Myla is ‘merciful’. I also love how it sounds like ‘My Love’. I don’t see how it sounds made up, it’s just an alternative to Mila, but I feel like Myla has more substance. Over all I just love it.
Makes me think of mylar balloons and is very trendy. I prefer [name_f]Mila[/name_f] (me-la). I think [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] goes much better with [name_f]Celia[/name_f] as it is a timeless classic.
