Hello All,
We are trying to settle on a boy name and are wondering your impressions of the name [name_m]Ned[/name_m] as a nickname. We do not personally know any Neds but think of few connections through TV and books. But we want to know what it makes others think of…thank you!

I love [name_m]Ned[/name_m] as a nn for [name_m]Edward[/name_m] .
I think this nn can be wear well in all the stages ,from a boy to a young mam to an elderly .
Uh, [name_m]Ned[/name_m]'s Declassified School Survival Guide was on TV when I was a kid. That’s the only thing I can think of, but it’s pretty irrelevant now.
I don’t know. [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is one of my favorite names, so naturally I’ve thought about nicknames. [name_m]Ned[/name_m] just doesn’t stick with me for some reason. I prefer [name_m]Ed[/name_m] or [name_m]Eddie[/name_m].
I like it as a nn for [name_m]Edward[/name_m], too. There are good and not-so-good pop-culture associations. I think of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] the pie-maker from Pushing Daisies (yay!), but my brother would probably think of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] Flanders from the Simpsons. I don’t think it matters, personally. e
I love [name_m]Ned[/name_m]! I think it would work as a given name as well.
Hmm. I think of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] from Ghost Whisperer. Used to watch it sometimes, when I came home from school.
Is it strange that I dislike a name, and still think it’s an alright name? Well [name_m]Ned[/name_m] is one of those. Probably just because of my own preference. And I didn’t know [name_m]Ned[/name_m] was a possible nn for [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. Or could be a nn.
I love [name_m]Ned[/name_m], but I’ve mentioned it to a few people and they all say they think of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] Flanders. Personally, I think it’s a great nickname, but a little insubstantial as a given name.
[name_f]One[/name_f] of my “cousins” (in other words, he’s extended family) is a [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. He’s middle-aged, and for the life of me I couldn’t tell you if that was his given name or a nickname, but he’s a pretty great guy.
I like it. If I were the one choosing, I’d have [name_m]Ned[/name_m] be the nickname and something else be the given name. But that’s just for myself-- and considering that I don’t know my [name_m]Ned[/name_m] by any other name, and I’m pretty sure his name isn’t [name_m]Edward[/name_m], I also don’t see any problem with it being used as a given name and not just as a nickname
My nephew (aged 2) is named [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] [name_m]Ned[/name_m].
I love it. He’s a manly little dude with a quirky sense of humour and a quick temper. It suits him perfectly.
I like [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. It’s classic and likable. It’s hard to think of an objectionable [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] above [name_m]Cayden[/name_m] or [name_m]Brycen[/name_m] or all those stupid trendy boy’s names that make me wince. [name_m]Ned[/name_m]/[name_m]Edward[/name_m] is perfect. If I had a son I might choose that. A name that will fit from babyhood through old age is always a good sign. Nice balance between cute and dignified.
I’ve really been liking [name_m]Ned[/name_m] recently. The only thing that bothers me is I don’t really like the full names, and I wouldn’t want to use it as a given name. Out of the options I like [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] the best.
I think of Game of Thrones first (Eddard ‘[name_m]Ned[/name_m]’ Stark) but then I also think of [name_m]Ned[/name_m] Flanders from the Simpsons.
I see eddard stark from game of thrones, his nn was ned. Then I think of the neighbor from the simpsons.
[name_m]Ned[/name_m] is on our short list for our [name_u]January[/name_u] baby. (see my recent post). But, my husband doesn’t like [name_m]Edward[/name_m] or its variations, and I’m unsure of “just [name_m]Ned[/name_m],” so we’ll likely pass on it.
I think of a cool little dude when I think of young [name_m]Ned[/name_m]. He ages to be a little off-beat, but in a good way.
I love [name_m]Ned[/name_m]! I think it’s a gorgeous nickname for [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. I know a little [name_m]Ned[/name_m] (just [name_m]Ned[/name_m]), but personally think it’s nickname only. In Australia, most people would associate the name with [name_m]Ned[/name_m] [name_u]Kelly[/name_u], who was a notorious bushranger in the late 19th century. However, I don’t think the name has particularly bad connotations now.
I love it! A great nickname for [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. Suitable for a cute toddler, cool teenage and professional man.
My great granddad was a [name_m]Ned[/name_m] ([name_m]Edmond[/name_m]). I love it
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m] the name we are pretty much agreed upon - so [name_m]Ned[/name_m] would have the full name [name_m]Edmund[/name_m].
Thank you for all the responses!
