What does it make your think of? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like it?
I had 2 relatives back in the 1800s named Satira, making this baby’s possible name Satira [name_u]Rae[/name_u]. I assume it is pronounced Sah-Tee-Rah. Ancestry.com didn’t come with pronunciation guides
I sort of like it okay. DH loves it, and my mom thinks that it sounds “ethnic”. She has already told me she doesn’t like it. :-/
Alternatives at this point are [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or names that have the NN [name_f]Cora[/name_f] ([name_f]Corinda[/name_f] is a top runner, also a family name)
My other 2 DDs are named [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f] [name_f]Renee[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] [name_u]Kaye[/name_u].
Satira, although a wonderful name with a rich history, reminds me of a joke. Literally, a satire. I can’t get over the fact that it’s one letter away from meaning “the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people’s stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.” (credit: Google define)
I wouldn’t go with it. [name_f]Corinda[/name_f] is a nice choice, however. [name_f]Clarissa[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] & [name_f]Corinda[/name_f] sound GREAT together.
I believe in Spanish (with emphasis on the first syllable) and Italian satira means satire and though I don’t speak either language fluently, this is what first came to mind when I read the name. It would make me hesitate to use it as a first name but the fact that its a family name is kinda neat.
I love the name [name_f]Cora[/name_f] and the lyrical quality of your children’s middle names being [name_f]Renee[/name_f], [name_u]Kaye[/name_u] and [name_u]Rae[/name_u] is very sweet and middle names give you the luxury to be a little cutesy too. That said [name_f]Cora[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] sounds a little clipped. The two hard ‘r’ sounds make it a little difficult but! [name_f]Corinda[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] works.
I like [name_f]Coretta[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] and the double t works with your other girls’ double l and double s too! If you just like [name_f]Cora[/name_f] best however, I’d say go with [name_f]Cora[/name_f]. It’s a lovely name and stands well on its own.
I’ve never seen it before and pronounced it as Saa-TEER-ah.
I’m not sure that I like it, but think it could grow on me, especially if I knew someone with the name. I immediantly think of the word satire. I definitely wouldn’t pair Satira with [name_u]Rae[/name_u], sati-[name_m]RA[/name_m] [name_u]RAE[/name_u]- is too many R sounds too close to together and difficult to say.
[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t let the “it sounds ethnic” thing scare you off a name, we would miss out on too many awesome names. I’m not putting you or your mom down or anything, the same feeling put me off [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] for a while. I thought it would sound odd on a white girl (I’m white, SO is white), but I don’t care anymore and now I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] it along with many other names that don’t prescribe to my ethnicity. I mean really, I love Greek names, but I’m not Greek, so why not extended the same feeling for other names.
I googled Satira and it supposedly mean longevity in Thai?
I hate to say it, but the second I saw it I thought it said Satana. Which probably wouldn’t be a good idea.
However, looking it over and realizing No, that isn’t a female form of Satan, it now seems very pretty! Not sure about the whole ‘satire’ association, but if it’s a family name and if it means something to you, I’d go for it! Satira [name_u]Rae[/name_u] sounds very nice, though I would prefer [name_f]Corinda[/name_f].
[name_f]Corina[/name_f] [name_u]Rae[/name_u] or [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] [name_f]Maya[/name_f] would also be nice and you would get the nick name [name_f]Cora[/name_f].
I like [name_f]Corina[/name_f], [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], [name_f]Cora[/name_f] or [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] just fine though. All good choices.
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is Satira. It is a Persian name. It is my aunt’s and cousin’s name too. It is a version of Setareh which means star. People have never told me that they think of the word satire when they hear/see my name. I have only ever received comments about how beautiful a name it is and several people have thanked me for introducing them to the name so that they could name their future child that.
It is a very old name there was a persian queen with the name during the time of alexander the great…if you watch the collin pharel film you actually see her…only thing is that they say her name wrong…
It reminds me of satire as well, and satyrs. Maybe you like [name_f]Saphira[/name_f] / [name_f]Sapphira[/name_f]? That’s just one sound away from Satira.
I don’t really like [name_f]Corinda[/name_f], it sounds a bit made-up to me. I prefer [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] and [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f].
I think the mn [name_u]Rae[/name_u] makes it all a bit heavy on the R’s, how about [name_f]Mae[/name_f] or [name_f]Fae[/name_f]?
